Comment by alan b. catlett on February 27, 2012 at 2:14pm One thing Newt knows, and that is history. America was the leading exporter of oil in 1930's-40's. It was the oil embargo on Japan due to the invasion of China that caused the Japanese to expand south into indonesia to capture the dutch oil fields. And that led to Pearl Harbor.
Comment by William Preston Horton on February 24, 2012 at 4:07pm It is far pas time for the whole Tea Party to get behind Grinrgrich as he made speach about $2.50 gasoline and less and no one seems to say any thing about it where is the tea party what is wrong with people in this country thay don't want lower gasoline prices it seems and if they do why not back Newt now. Wake up before it is too late .
Comment by carol castillo on February 23, 2012 at 8:56pm People are so suggestive then turn and run tail. Ms Ponsting, no one has to tell me who to vote for, but thank you anyways. I am self sufficient, independent, right wing, conservative, republican. I already know who I back.. Because i use simple words does not mean i am not strong iand faithful to my country. We all need to be of one mind and really get behind our man, holding him accountable for not only his words, but find out what he is really made of. We need a man who follows the constitution, has a love for his country, and is willing to put his life on the line for it. No apologies for it as Obama seems to do every other day, but protection Her, and standing for Her and Her citizens.

Comment by Chas Jones on February 23, 2012 at 10:54am Many factors are involved with the price of oil, gasoline, natural gas, and energy in general. We need more Companies, not fewer, chasing sources of fuels and energy. More companies increases competition. We also need independent distributors of these products. I remember vividly when many MORE oil companies competed. I remember vividly when independent service station owners competed with many others keeping prices lower and many added value added services ... auto repair, sales of basic auto parts, air hoses and much more. These many entrepreneurs provided quality goods and services while also hiring millions or workers at their stations throughout our nation. Mergers which reduce competing companies, and specific strategies meant to end independent ownership of service stations all contributed to increased prices and massive loss of local jobs.
Our nation needs to lead the world in producing and delivering ALL sources of fuels and energy to exceed our own national needs and export our excess to the world. All of this should be done in and by the hands of privately owned businesses, both large and small.
Comment by Roy McGaa on February 23, 2012 at 10:38am There is no logical argument to what Newt has to say. That should tell you everything you need to know about those who hate America and what she stands for.
Semper Fidelis; to God, Country & Corps
Comment by carol castillo on February 23, 2012 at 10:31am I believe that everything Newt discussed could and would happen, but there is too many selfish, greedy people in high places who enjoy the power and control of this country. Until they are ready to relinquish their control and work together for the good of the people we will be kept captive to their whims.
We need to keep chipping away at the system for change, vote for new blood, people willing to step up, willing to fight the "old policies" improve and initiate new policies, rebuild our national security, build up our military, support businesses to create new jobs, rehire people.
We need to trust our leaders, take them for what they say. As a low income person, I don't expect anything special, but I do expect is not to be taxed to death, to be forced to pay high medial premiums, high food costs, as well as high gas costs. I don't expect to be part of a death panel if no one in the highest tax levels are not included in them also. Personally I feel like you have a right to earn what you work for, but if you earn it for by blood and sweat.
Right now I earn $9.13 per hour, working 30 hrs a week, paying $60 a week for gas, driving a Dodge Caliper. I drive 32 miles a day to work. Does that sound cost efficent? I don't go anywhere else, no entertainment by choice, other then to Churce, every other week to save on gas.
I think it time vote the old boys out and stop hearing the same old excuses, and vote in truthful honest people that will not talk circles around us, that think we all have alzheimers and make empty promises, run the country into the dogs in the frirst 90 days of his administration. We need a strong individual who is not afraid to run this country on a shoestring, and not worry about the unions, the bullies, the back door politics, black mail, and any other dirty secrets to be had.
Thank you
