New FDA guidelines on washing down groceries

by justthenews.com ~ If you have you been wiping down your groceries after coming back from the supermarket, the Food and Drug Administration says there’s no need… According to the FDA, “there is currently no evidence of human or animal food or food packaging being associated with transmission of the coronavirus that causes COVID-19.” “This particular coronavirus causes respiratory illness and is spread from person-to-person, unlike foodborne gastrointestinal or GI viruses, such as norovirus and hepatitis A that often make people ill through contaminated food,” the FDA states. The FDA does provide several tips to keep people safe in grocery stores: -Prepare a shopping list in advance. Buy just 1 to 2 weeks worth of groceries at a time. Buying more than you need can create unnecessary demand and temporary shortages. -Wear a face covering or mask while you are in the store. Some stores and localities may require it. Check your state, county or city guidelines for any other requirements. -Carry your own wipes, or use one provided by the store to wipe down the handles of the shopping cart or basket. If you use reusable shopping bags, ensure they are cleaned or washed before each use. -Practice social distancing while shopping – keeping at least 6 feet between you, other shoppers, and store employees. Keep your hands away from your face. -Wash your hands with warm water and soap for at least 20 seconds when you return home and again after you put away your groceries.   https://justthenews.com/video/new-fda-guidelines-washing-down-groceries

Coronavirus can survive prolonged exposure to high temperatures

By TAMAR BEERI{jpost.com } ~ The novel COVID-19, despite previous suspicions, is capable of surviving prolonged exposure to high temperatures… according to a study by the University of Aix-Marseille in France, led by Professor Remi Charrel and Boris Pastorino. In the experiment, scientists found that typically hot temperatures of 60°Celsius (140° Fahrenheit) used to disinfect research labs are ineffective against the coronavirus. Instead, the pathogen may only be killed in a maintained temperature of 92 °C for 15 minutes.  Two swabs were taken from the kidney cells of an African green monkey which was infected with coronavirus. One swab was heated as is while the other was used with animal proteins “to simulate the biological contamination found in real samples,” according to the Daily Mail. When heated to 60 °C for an hour, however, the virus stayed on the latter and even replicated at the prolonged high temperature, indicating that the virus, even after the regular disinfection process in a lab, may still linger. When disinfected at 92 °C, the virus is seemingly successfully wiped out, but because its RNA gets damaged in the process, the sensitivity of the check is harmed. The team noted that in samples with smaller loads of the virus, the 60 °C should be enough to deactivate it, but in cases with larger loads of infection, the near-boiling point is necessary. The researchers concluded that using chemicals rather than heat to disinfect would be the best way to go. According to the South China Morning Post, Chinese testing facilities were aware of these dangers and therein had lab workers take extra precautions, such as wearing a full hazmat suit. The study, according to Newsweek, has not yet been peer reviewed or published in a scientific journal and should therefore not be taken as fact.  https://www.jpost.com/HEALTH-SCIENCE/Coronavirus-can-survive-prolonged-exposure-to-high-temperatures-study-625118?utm_source=ActiveCampaign&utm_medium=email&utm_content=Israel%2C+US+law+firms+sue+China+for+trillions+over+coronavirus&utm_campaign=April+19+night

Israeli scientist claims he’s two-thirds the way to COVID-19 vaccine

By TAMAR BEERI{jpost.com } ~ Prof. Jonathan Gershoni from Tel Aviv University’s (TAU) School of Molecular Cell Biology and Biotechnology claimed on Sunday… that work his laboratory is doing on the corona family of viruses is “two-thirds of the way” through the process of developing a vaccine for COVID-19. Even so, a vaccine would still take more than a year to develop, he said. Gershoni, who has studied the family of viruses for 15 years, said that he was recently granted a patent by the United States Patent and Trademark Office for his vaccine design. He explained that the vaccine intends to target the virus’s Receptor Binding Motif (RBM), a critical weak point which allows the virus to attach itself and infect a target cell. The RBM is a small feature of the virus’s “spike” protein, meaning that the virus uses many different proteins to replicate and invade cells, but the “spike” protein is the “major surface protein that it uses to bind to a receptor – another protein that acts like a doorway into a human cell,” according to TAU.Once this protein binds to the cell receptor of a human cell, the viral membrane fuses with that of the human cell, which allows the genome, or genetic blueprint of the virus to enter human cells and begin infection. “The idea is to recreate, to reconstitute, to construct an RBM of COVID-19 virus and use it as the vaccine,” he told the Post. “That is to say, you would inject a small 50 amino-acid sequence and it would allow our immune system to focus on it and create antibodies that would directly target the virus at its weak spot.” Due to the size of the RBM, which is a highly complex three-dimensional structure and only 50 amino acids long, it will be very challenging for it to be functionally reconstituted. It would, however, be extremely effective as a basis for a possible vaccine. “The smaller the target and the focus of the attack, the greater the effectiveness of the vaccine,” Gershoni said. “The virus takes far reaching measures to hide its RBM from the human immune system, but the best way to ‘win the war’ is to develop a vaccine that specifically targets the virus’s RBM.”…  https://www.jpost.com/HEALTH-SCIENCE/TAU-professor-Were-two-thirds-of-the-way-developing-COVID-19-vaccine-625129?utm_source=ActiveCampaign&utm_medium=email&utm_content=Israel%2C+US+law+firms+sue+China+for+trillions+over+coronavirus&utm_campaign=April+19+night

Bret Baier says ‘more and more dots’ point to Wuhan lab as origin of coronavirus pandemic

By Victor Garcia{foxnews.com } ~ “Special Report” anchor Bret Baier joined “Hannity” Friday night to give an update on his report on the suspected origins of the coronavirus in China… “More and more dots, both open-source and classified information, point right to the lab. And that’s why we said increasing confidence,” Baier said. “What there is 100 percent confidence of, and we’ve reported this and now more and more officials are saying it publicly, is the level and extent of the coverup China went to.” Biaer explained that the virus was naturally occurring and not man-made. “They believe that this Shi Zhengli, who was working in the Wuhan Virology Lab, was essentially working on antiviral and immunization efforts. That’s what our sources are saying. That’s what matches some of the reports that were out from the University of South China and others, that there were efforts to study these viruses in that very lab,” Baier said. “And basically, they believe that the non-man-made part is pointing specifically to the genetic mapping of this virus right now and that it hopped from an animal to human. And it was not altered in its genetic sequence.” Host Sean Hannity asked Baier about China’s coverup efforts, to which the anchor responded “there are dots.” “There are dots on the board and that is: How much they went to scrub all of the data, the fact that you can’t find some of these doctors, including Shi Zhengli, who was working on it,” Baier said. “The fact that some of the samples were destroyed, and the fact that just today, Sean, the Chinese government announced an increase in the death total in Wuhan by 50 percent.”   https://www.foxnews.com/media/bret-baier-more-dots-wuhan-labcoronavirus

Completion of long awaited Keystone XL oil pipeline delayed again, after judge cancels permit

By Joseph Weber {justthenews.com } ~ Effort to build the Keystone XL crude oil pipeline was set back this week when a federal judge cancelled a key permit… The project has been years in the making – with its completion delayed by a series of setbacks for supporters of fossil fuel and efforts to make the U.S. less dependent on foreign energy. Green energy advocates and other critics argue the Canadian oil and pipeline construction hurt the environment. President Trump campaign in 2016 on getting the pipeline completed. Delays included environmental impact studies during the scumbag/liar-nObama administration. In the most recent setback, Judge Brian Morris said Wednesday that the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers failed to adequately consider effects on endangered species such as pallid sturgeon, a massive, dinosaur-like fish that lives in rivers the pipeline would cross, according to the Associated Press. However, the ruling does not stop work at the U.S.-Canada border in Montana. The pipeline is expected to stretch from the border to Nebraska. The pipeline was proposed in 2008 and would carry up to 830,000 barrels of crude daily to Nebraska, where it would be transferred to another  pipeline for shipment to refineries and export terminals on the Gulf of Mexico, the wire service also reports.  https://justthenews.com/government/courts-law/completion-long-awaited-keystone-xl-oil-pipeline-delayed-again-after-judge

The European Union is Dead but Does Not Yet Know It

by Giulio Meotti{gatestoneinstitute.or } ~ The new coronavirus appears to be tearing apart the fragile framework of the European Union. “Europe” said the former Commission chief and a EU godfather, Jacques Delors, “is in “mortal danger”… If citizens feel themselves abandoned at the heart of the pandemic, said Former French Prime Minister Manuel Valls, the EU could “collapse”. The EU objective was evidently supposed to be an “ever closer union”. But now, if the EU does not show solidarity and strength at a time of global crisis, what is the EU’s purpose? Its ideological supporters have a mantra: each new problem must be solved by more Europe. “Europe is our future, we have no other”, Germany’s former Foreign Minister Hans-Dietrich Genscher once said. Although these are important and dramatic statements, each time it is as if something even more important and dramatic needs to happen to shake people awake, as if the European Union is never actually seen as dying. Sadly, these high-flown phrases seem to shrivel into empty slogans. The truth is that there is no “Union”. There is a conglomerate of European states trying to take advantage of some rules called “the union”. In times of crisis, old European divisions always seem to reopen — and crises are part of the old continent, possibly its epitaph. The coronavirus now has put the European Union and its comfort zone face-to-face with all its weaknesses, decadence and cowardice. In the face of Italy’s pandemic catastrophe, the European Union showed only impotence and indifference. European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen even “apologized” to Italy and acknowledged that the EU had failed to respond well to the Covid-19 pandemic…  https://www.gatestoneinstitute.org/15894/european-union-dead

Dems Block Additional Money for Small Businesses

Thomas Gallatin

It’s no secret that American businesses are hurting as a result of the China Virus pandemic shutting down vast swaths of the U.S. economy. Currently four out of 10 businesses are temporarily closed after just over a month of shutdowns, and if the shutdowns lasts another three months, estimates are that up to half of the country’s businesses will close permanently.

Small businesses have been particularly hard hit by the shutdowns, and none more so than the restaurant industry — only one in five restaurant owners believe they will be able to survive. Currently, only 30% of salaried restaurant employees and less than 10% of hourly employees remain employed. More than three-quarters of restaurant owners say sales have dropped by at least 50%, while 80% of owners don’t believe that the take-out and delivery options they have switched to will be enough to keep them afloat much longer.Even with President Donald Trump’s just-released plan for reopening the nation’s economy, the guidelines’ earliest date for engaging even the initial lifting of restrictions is still two weeks away.Meanwhile, the recently passed $2.2 trillion CARES Act’s $350 billion Paycheck Protection Program, which provides forgivable loans to small businesses so they can stay afloat and retain their employees, ran dry yesterday. That’s entirely due to the fact that congressional Democrats elected to play partisan politics and blocked the attempt by Republicans to add an additional $250 billion to the program.Standing in her kitchen in front of her $24,000 double refrigerator stuffed with expensive gourmet ice cream, Speaker liar-Nancy Pelosi ridiculously attempted to explain why she supported Senate Minority Leader Chuck scumbag-Schumer’s obstruction. liar-Pelosi dubiously asserted that Democrats want to make sure that everyone is getting funds. It was shockingly out of touch, and Republicans quickly labeled her “liar-Nancy Antionette.”The fact of the matter is, liar-Pelosi and scumbag-Schumer are holding additional PPP funding hostage in a ploy to gain more concessions from Republicans for programs that are entirely disconnected from even remotely helping small businesses. As The Wall Street Journal editorial board wrote, “In a joint statement Monday, Speaker liar-Nancy Pelosi and Minority Leader Chuck scumbag-Schumer called for ‘further changes’ to the Paycheck Protection Program, plus ‘significantly increased’ funding for disaster grants and loans, plus ‘additional support’ for the food-stamp program, plus ‘adequate funding’ for nationwide virus testing and personal protective equipment, plus ‘the collection and publication of demographic data’ so that ‘we can accurately determine the level of impact on under-served communities and communities of color.’”Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell on Thursday hammered Democrats for blocking the funding. “Every Senate Republican was ready to act today,” he said. “But Democrats would not let us reopen the program.” In fact, two Democrat senators, Kirsten Sinema (AZ) and Tina Smith (MN), broke with their party and called for additional funding with no new strings attached. Even the Leftmedia is wondering why liar-Pelosi and scumbag-Schumer are blocking the funding. NBC News anchor Chuck Todd worriedly opined, “The side that looks like they’re holding up money, I think, is bad politics. … I think that [the] small-business money issue is something that’s more front and center with the public than the issue of reimbursing the states. And so I think that on a perception marker here, sort of your short-term politics, I think the Republicans have the upper hand.”Small-business owners left out in the cold can only hope pressure on Democrats forces them to do the right thing.  ~The Patriot Post
