Tuesday Top News Executive Summary

Media Editors: JUDICIAL ACTIVISM ON IMMIGRATION: “A U.S. judge decided Monday to block the Trump administration’s policy of returning asylum seekers to Mexico as they wait for an immigration court to hear their cases, but the ruling is on hold for several days. Judge Richard Seeborg in San Francisco granted a request on behalf of 11 asylum seekers from Central America and legal advocacy groups to halt the practice while their lawsuit moves forward, but he held off on enforcing his decision until Friday to give the government a chance to ask an appeals court for a review.” (Associated Press)

SECRET SERVICE RESHUFFLING: “President Trump is removing U.S. Secret Service Director Randolph ‘Tex’ Alles from his position. … The Secret Service recently came under scrutiny for its handling of an incident in which a Chinese national was allowed to enter President Trump’s Mar-a-Lago club. The woman, who alternately claimed to be there to swim and attend an event for Chinese-American business leaders, was eventually determined to be carrying two Chinese passports and a device containing malware.” (The Hill)

UNLAWFUL APPOINTMENTS: The Washington Examiner points out, “President Trump announced … that Kevin McAleenan will be taking over as acting secretary of the Department of Homeland Security following the resignation of Kirstjen Nielsen on Sunday. There’s one problem with this: It’s illegal. Federal law explicitly excludes the application of the Federal Vacancies Reform Act to this situation.” By law, the secretary role should be filled by current Under Secretary of Homeland Security for Management Claire Grandy unless her employment were to be terminated. Barack scumbag/liar-nObama also had a penchant for exploiting interim appointments, and any president who takes advantage of them should be rebuked.

DEMOCRAT 2020 UPDATE: “California Rep. scumbag/moron-Eric Swalwell is the latest Democrat to jump into the race for president. … scumbag-Swalwell is the 18th Democrat to join the race for the party’s 2020 presidential nomination. One of the key issues the California Democrat, 38, is highlighting is one important to young voters in particular: gun safety [i.e., gun control]. … scumbag-Swalwell has also taken on the National Rifle Association, proposing an assault-weapons ban.” (NPR)

REPARATIONS POLITICAL THEATER: “Sen. scumbag-Cory Booker on Monday introduced a bill that would study the possibility of reparations for descendants of slaves, embracing a push that recently has caught the interest of fellow 2020 Democratic presidential candidates. … The measure is a Senate companion to a bill introduced in the House of Representatives in January by Rep. scumbag-Sheila Jackson Lee of Texas, which if passed into law would set up a commission to study the impact of slavery and continued discrimination against black Americans and make recommendations on reparation proposals for the descendants of slaves.” (Fox News)

HARDLINE ON IRAN: “President Donald Trump on Monday moved to designate Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps, a wing of the Iranian military, as a foreign terrorist organization. … The designation, which will take effect next Monday, is significant and controversial as it’s the first time that the U.S. has officially identified a branch of a foreign state as a terrorist organization. … President Trump has consistently taken an aggressive posture toward Iran and Monday’s announcement is just the latest iteration of that approach.” (ABC News)

TROUBLE IN JIHADISTAN: “Three U.S. service members were killed by an improvised explosive device Monday near Bagram Air Base, Afghanistan. … The Taliban claimed responsibility for the attack through the group’s spokesman, Zabihullah Mujahid. The insurgent group claimed the attack was conducted by a suicide vehicle-borne IED. … There have been four other U.S. troop deaths in Afghanistan so far this year. Those deaths occurred during combat operations in more remote Afghan provinces.” (Military Times)

ISLAMIC DOMESTIC TERRORISM THWARTED: “Federal authorities have charged a Maryland man they believe was plotting to ram a stolen truck into pedestrians at the National Harbor waterfront development in Maryland, just outside the nation’s capital, the Justice Department announced Monday. Rondell Henry, 28, of Germantown, Maryland, has been charged with interstate transportation of a stolen vehicle, but in court documents authorities allege a much more sinister intention. According to authorities, Henry claimed to law enforcement that he was inspired by the Islamic State when he stole a U-Haul van looking to use it as a weapon.” (ABC News)

VINDICTIVENESS OVER KAVANAUGH: “A woman was arrested on Friday after authorities discovered she sent a threatening letter to Sen. Susan Collins’s (R-ME) home in October. The letter, which was sent to Collins’s husband, Thomas Daffron, was reportedly laced with ricin. … Because it was mailed in October, one can only conclude the suspect was [responding] to Collins’s vote in favor of Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh.” (National Review)

TAX-REFORM DECEPTION: A recent CBS News headline bellowed, “Tax refunds so far this year are down by $6 billion from 2018.” Except you have to reach the fourth paragraph for this caveat: “Lower refunds don’t mean Americans paid more taxes — quite the opposite. Most workers paid less in taxes last year and saw higher take-home pay week in and week out.”

HUMOR: Protesters claim victory after blocking customers from Chick-fil-A for entire Sunday (The Babylon Bee)

POLICY: Retiring the USS Harry S. Truman is a terrible idea (National Review)

POLICY: Why the Left is desperate to sabotage Trump’s health-care plans (The Heritage Foundation)

How scumbag/liar-nObama Holdover liar-Sally Yates Helped Sink Michael Flynn

by Jason Beale

{ thefederalist.com } ~ In late January 2017, President scumbag/liar-nObama’s deputy attorney general liar-Sally Yates made a couple of urgent trips from the Department of Justice building to the White House… carrying information she believed to be critical to U.S. national security. liar-Yates was aware, likely through intercepts of Russian Ambassador Sergey Kislyak’s communications, that the newly seated national security advisor, retired Lt. Gen. Michael Flynn, had discussed with Kislyak Russia’s response to the scumbag/liar-nObama administration imposition of sanctions for Russia’s attempts to meddle in the 2016 elections. According to news reports, Flynn had asked Kislyak to wait a few weeks and allow the incoming Trump administration a chance to review the issue before Russia retaliated. Flynn’s conversations with Kislyak occurred on December 29, the day scumbag/liar-nObama announced the sanctions. Recall that this period between the election of Trump in early November and his inauguration in late January was characterized by a frenzy of questionable and as-yet unexplained actions taken by the scumbag/liar-nObama White House, intelligence agencies, and the State Department. The Steele dossier was in circulation at various levels of government and media officialdom; Carter Page’s communications—and those of anyone with whom he communicated, and anyone with whom they communicated—were being monitored by the Federal Bureau of Investigation and National Security Agency. The Great Unmasking had also begun, with unprecedented numbers of requests forwarded from various scumbag/liar-nObama administration officials to the NSA to reveal the identities of American citizens otherwise protected in their reporting and transcribing of intercepts of foreign official communications. Distribution regulations were relaxed to allow wider access to these NSA intercepts, and the word went out throughout the halls of every government agency to get everything into the system, lest these barbarians coming into office destroy evidence and deny their roles as Russian agents… https://thefederalist.com/2019/04/08/obama-holdover-sally-yates-helped-sink-michael-flynn/?utm_source=The+Federalist+List&utm_campaign=06be70fc7e-RSS_The_Federalist_Daily_Updates_w_Transom&utm_medium=email&utm_term=0_cfcb868ceb-06be70fc7e-83771801

When Will Iran’s Regime Finally Cave In?

by Giulio Meotti

{ gatestoneinstitute.org } ~ The Islamic Republic of Iran today, through its terror proxies and puppet regimes, has been extending its hegemony to many capitals of the Middle East… Tehran, Baghdad, Damascus, Beirut, Sanaa. Iran continues to threaten the Middle East, the Mediterranean basin and potentially Europe. Forty years after its theocratic revolution in 1979, the mullahs speak wishfully, one assumes of a “declining” America. “America cannot manage its own affairs now”, Ayatollah Ahmad Jannati, the secretary of the powerful Guardian Council, said on state television. “Millions of people are hungry there and America’s power is in decline”. Such declarations may be intended to hide Iran’s own terrible decline, fleeing reality and crumbling from within. Iran was the first country, in 1979, to bring down a secular, pro-Western government and replace it with an Islamic theocracy. The experiment, however, seems to have failed. Instead of bringing prosperity and freedom, it brought poverty and repression. Even without considering the terrible persecution of women, journalists, academics dissidents and sexual minorities, the Iranian regime is crumbling. Statistics published by the World Bank note that Iran has had an appalling economic meltdown over the past 40 years since the Islamic clerics came to power. Its drop in economic rankings relative to other countries has been “one of the steepest declines in modern history”. Florida Gov. Looking to Outlaw ‘Sanctuary City’ Status in Sunshine State

by Warner Todd Huston

{ godfatherpolitics.com } ~ Florida’s recently elected Governor, Ron De Santis, is now turning his attention to putting an end to so-called “sanctuary cities”… by pushing legislation to ban cities from claiming to be sanctuaries and to make it illegal for police agencies to refuse to work with ICE. Now THAT is a governor! Currently, the Florida GOP is pushing several bills through the state legislature in Tallahassee. Some of the bills would fine or fire police officers who refuse to work with ICE, Fox News reported. “This problem that we have right now, is a problem that has been festering in the United States because it has not been solved by the federal government for the past 40 years,” said Florida Republican Rep. Blaise Ingoglia. “Quite frankly, you know since the last mass amnesty, if you will, in 1986 under Ronald Reagan, we were always promised that we would have some sort of… legal immigration reform and it never came.” It’s all an effort by the Republican-led state lawmakers, buoyed by DeSantis, to toughen the rules on illegal immigration. The sanctuary city ban, which passed the Senate Infrastructure and Security Committee, will be voted on by both chambers before May 3…  https://godfatherpolitics.com/florida-gov-looking-to-outlaw-sanctuary-city-status-in-sunshine-state/

Identity politics: The new form of privileged tyranny

by David Tucker

{ washingtonexaminer.com } ~ When a member of the House of Representatives was accused recently of making anti-Semitic remarks, some of her accusers supported their accusations by saying that her remarks were “hurtful.”… What an odd thing to say. Anti-Semitism is odious, unjust, and wrong. Why not use those words to describe it? Why call it “hurtful?” The answer becomes clear if we consider this exchange between a professor and a student that took place at Evergreen State College in Washington, as reported in the Chronicle of Higher Education. When the self-described progressive professor objected to the plans of certain students and faculty on his campus, he defended himself by saying, “I am talking about terms that serve the truth.” The student responded, “We don’t care what terms you want to speak on. We are not speaking on terms of white privilege.” What the student meant was that the most important fact about the professor’s words was not whether they were logically consistent or based on evidence, and thus true or false. The important thing was that they were spoken by a white man, and therefore the student chose to deem them worthless. Another Evergreen professor reportedly remarked about his colleague’s objections that it was “unintentionally racist, but racist nonetheless” for a white person the professor to question the wisdom of students who “know the experiences of exclusion and oppression.” This professor was pointing to the inevitable result of privileging, as people now say, identity over truth. When truth gives way to identity, logic, and evidence inevitably give way to mere experience and the feelings that accompany that experience. What else is left? Thus, the proof that a statement is anti-Semitic is that it hurt someone’s feelings. Certainly anti-Semitism does hurt feelings, but to object to it only on that ground is trivializing. But the harmful effects of replacing truth with identity go well beyond trivializing anti-Semitism and other forms of prejudice… Whats with this white that and white this. https://www.washingtonexaminer.com/opinion/op-eds/identity-politics-the-new-form-of-privileged-tyranny?utm_source=WEX_News%20Brief_04/07/2019&utm_medium=email&utm_campaign=WEX_News%20Brief

Amazon moving thousands of employees out of Seattle, relocating key division to nearby city

by Monica Nickelburg

{ geekwire.com } ~ Amazon plans to relocate its entire Seattle-based worldwide operations team to Bellevue, Wash., by 2023, adding thousands of employees to its new campus just across Lake Washington… according to an internal email obtained by GeekWire. Moving a large and critical team away from Amazon’s Seattle headquarters is a significant relocation of employees on its own, but it’s also a weighty symbolic gesture — the clearest sign yet that the tech giant is cooling on its hometown while doubling down on a neighboring city. “I’m excited to share the news that we’re planning to migrate worldwide operations to Bellevue starting this year,” said Dave Clark, the senior vice president in charge of the team, in an email to his employees Wednesday. “This move gives room to grow while maintaining the campus feel that we’ve come to love around South Lake Union.” Sources familiar with the plans said several thousand employees will be moving to Bellevue in the years ahead. Amazon confirmed the authenticity of the email obtained by GeekWire. Worldwide operations is one of the most critical teams at Amazon, the arm responsible for getting packages to customers’ doors…   https://www.geekwire.com/2019/exclusive-amazon-moving-thousands-employees-seattle-relocating-key-division-nearby-city/

DHS Reset to Battle Border Crisis

Thomas Gallatin: As the dust settles following a whirlwind of events leaving the top leadership positions at both the Department of Homeland Security and Immigration and Customs Enforcement suddenly open, many are questioning President Donald Trump’s rationale. Everything started last Friday when seemingly out of the blue Trump pulled his nomination of Ronald Vitiello for director of ICE. Trump’s explanation for his decision left many befuddled given Vitiello’s 30-year history with ICE and tough talk about walls. “Ron’s a good man,” Trump stated, “but we’re going in a tougher direction.”

It appears that Trump’s decision didn’t sit well with DHS Secretary Kirstjen Nielsen, who on Sunday tendered her resignation. In her resignation letter, Nielsen wrote, “Despite our progress in reforming homeland security for a new age, I have determined that it is the right time for me to step aside.” She also implied that much of the blame for the current border crisis lay with Congress, writing, “I hope that the next Secretary will have the support of Congress and the courts in fixing the laws which have impeded our ability to fully secure America’s borders and which have contributed to discord in our nation’s discourse.” Kevin McAleenan, head of Customs and Border Protection, will act as Homeland Security secretary.

A couple things can be gleaned from recent events. First, Trump is clearly frustrated by the DHS’s lack of success in stemming the migration crisis at the border — a crisis that, as Nielsen noted, Congress has thus far refused to act on. Worse, it’s a crisis Democrats have exacerbated for their own political aims, while they flippantly throw concern for national security and protecting the rights of American citizens under the bus. Meanwhile, by pulling Vitiello’s nomination, Trump claims a “get tougher” message, but his decision may also have been in deference to the opinion of senior adviser Stephen Miller and ICE union boss Chris Crane. In other words, it looks like there was a lot of internal politics behind this decision.

This also appears to be the motivation behind Nielsen’s decision. Nielsen, who supported Vitiello, recognized that change was coming, and maybe in a direction she was not as comfortable with.

Second, the big picture. Trump is shaking things up in his effort to deal with the border crisis and make it the central political issue for the nation. Obviously, he believes that a leadership course change is necessary to meet his stated desire to get tougher on border security. Trump may also be seeking less pushback from within the DHS over his threats to shut down the southern border should Mexico not get more aggressive in efforts to stop the caravans of migrants flowing through its country.

Arguably, one of the biggest issues that won Trump the presidency was his promise to aggressively tackle the problem of illegal immigration. Now as the border crisis seemingly only gets worse, Trump recognizes that if he doesn’t produce significant results, it could prove costly for his 2020 reelection bid. He knows Americans don’t want more of the same. ~The Patriot Post
