Gowdy: Unbelievable Bruce Ohr Would Insert Himself Into an Ongoing Investigation

{ } ~ Rep. Trey Gowdy told Fox News Monday night that he used to work at the Justice Department doing what Bruce Ohr does now… Both men are or were prosecutors. It’s unbelievable that a prosecutor would insert himself into an ongoing investigation for which he had nothing to do, he said. According to him, Bruce Ohr worked for the Department of Justice. He had nothing to do with the Russia investigation other than he inserted himself by having contact with Christopher Steele. Ohr “even had contact with Chris Steele after the FBI terminated its relationship with Chris Steele.” Gowdy noted that one branch of the Justice Department, the FBI decided Steele was “not even fit to be an informant,” yet a high-ranking Justice Department official, Bruce Ohr, was continuing to funnel information from Steele to the FBI…

Trump Unloads on Strzok, Sessions and Ohr in Early Morning Tweets

{ } ~ President Trump vented his frustrations with the Russia probe this morning… sharply criticizing former FBI Special Agent Peter Strzok, Attorney General Jeff Sessions, and twice-demoted DOJ employee, Bruce Ohr. The president began by quoting Judicial Watch president, Tom Fitton, who said Strzok and others should be criminally investigated for their handling of the Trump-Russia investigation: The president then focused on Ohr, who has been heavily scrutinized in recent weeks for his close ties to anti-Trump dossier author, Christopher Steele and Fusion GPS co-founder, Glenn Simpson: And finally, the President claimed that the real Russian collusion lies within the dummycrats-Democrat Party, and called for an end to the “rigged” investigation…

scumbag/commie-Brennan, the Spooks, and Russian Collusion

by Ishmael Jones

{ } ~ The FBI is being held accountable for its role in spy operations against the Trump campaign. scumbag/commie-John Brennan’s CIA should be held accountable as well… An editorial by Holman Jenkins in the Wall Street Journal on June 29, 2018 recommends an investigation of the CIA’s involvement in the 2016 election, and I agree. The WSJ’s Kimberley Strassel has commented on CIA involvement as well, as did Rudy Giuliani on August 13th. If press reports are accurate, American spy operations targeted the Trump campaign by luring Trump associates such as George Papadopoulos to meetings in Britain. There are two key factors at work here. The first factor is the location. The CIA is in charge of American government spy ops that occur in foreign countries, not the FBI. While an American tourist can fly to Britain to see the changing of the guard and be in front of Buckingham Palace within 24 hours, an American FBI agent can do nothing in Britain without intricate CIA approvals and supervision. If the CIA were not involved, they’d be raising hell with the FBI for doing business on their turf. Turf is everything in bureaucracy. CIA involvement is certain. The second factor — I do not know the people named and am basing this on press reports — is that these ops bear the distinctive signature of being run by bureaucrats at CIA Headquarters, not by professionals in CIA field stations…

The Gray Lady Once Again Sanitizes Radical Islam

by Steven Emerson

{ } ~ For many years now, the New York Times has sanitized radical Islamic groups, militant Islamic leaders and even Islamic terrorist attacks… The paper has does this by deliberately omitting critical details that would discredit Islamist groups. For example, the Times routinely describes the Council on American Islamic Relations (CAIR) as either being a civil rights or a Muslim advocacy group. In reality, CAIR was started as a front for Hamas and continues to serve as one. But over the course of more than two decades, the Times has never reported on any of the many government documents and official transcripts that prove CAIR’s role as a front group for Hamas. And when reporting on many of the Islamic terrorist attacks that have occurred in Europe in recent years, the Times has often omitted the key fact that the Islamist attacker often yelled out “Allahu Akbar” before committing his terrorist atrocity, despite no such reluctance by European media to report such critical facts. Last week’s Times’ reporting on the arrests of Muslim extremists in a compound with 11 starving children who were being taught to carry out school shootings offers a glaring case in point. Local authorities searching for a missing special needs 3-year-old boy discovered his body, and 11 starving children, on a remote New Mexico compound loaded with weapons…

Social Security and Fiscal Doomsday

by William Sullivan

{ ~ 2035. That’s the optimistic date for Social Security’s impending doom, after which Social Security is expected to provide only 75-80% of expected benefits to retirees… For the record, I turn 67 full retirement age, for me in 2047, so I, like many Americans, have been skeptical about the program for some time. But perhaps it’s pertinent to note that when I began following this looming doomsday in earnest, it was projected at 2038. It’s been creeping forward, with some estimates placing it as early as 2034. But there’s an interesting thing that happens when people think about Social Security, just as that same interesting thing happens when people imagine the impending doom of municipal and state pension liabilities that are now crippling governments across the country with a roughly $5 trillion hole nationally. Somehow, Americans think, the money is there if governments are capable of properly managing the inflows from workers, capitalizing upon the underlying investments, and just delivering the outflows to beneficiaries. Each and every of those assumptions are wrong. Let’s begin with municipal pensions…

dinky-Warren: Justice System Is Racist ‘Front to Back’

by Lewis Morris: Sen. Elizabeth dinky-Warren (D-Cherokee) laid a heavy accusation on our entire criminal justice system recently at an event in Louisiana, throwing the “racist” label around, much to the delight of her supporters.

“The hard truth about our criminal justice system: It’s racist,” Warren told a crowd at Dillard University in New Orleans. “I mean all the way. I mean front to back. This is not just sentencing reform we’re talking about here. We’re talking about the front end on what you declare to be illegal, on how you enforce it, on who gets arrested.”

In her slanderous attack, Warren would have Americans believe that from the time one is approached by a cop all the way through to the moment one is sentenced and incarcerated, one is in a racist system that targets minorities. For the system to be racist, then by extension wouldn’t most if not all the people who serve it be racist too? dinky-Warren seems to ignore the 27% of the nation’s police officers who are minorities, as well as the 400 black prosecutors, the 383 minority federal judges, and the previous two U.S. attorneys general.

dinky-Warren’s rhetorical assault is surely meant to stir up some press for her 2020 presidential run. But more broadly speaking, the race card is a key part of the leftist toolkit, and it has been used to rail on the justice system for years.

It can’t be denied that the criminal justice system needs reform, as we have argued on these pages. There is something wrong when America, with 4% of the world’s population, has 25% of the world’s prisoners. Two-thirds of the 650,000 people who leave prison every year will be back in jail within three years. This is a failure with sentencing and giving inmates the tools they need to turn their lives around. It’s not racism.

Reforms are already taking place on the state level that have improved the situation in certain areas. President Donald Trump proposed following that example at the federal level and threw his support behind the First Step Act, a House bill with tremendous bipartisan support.

The bill, which addresses recidivism and allowing prisoners to build “good time” credit, had bipartisan support in the House but was stymied in the Senate.

The Left has drawn the conclusion that the criminal justice system is racist because of the disparity between the total black population versus the black prison population. Blacks make up 13% of the total population but 30% of the state prison population. It can be said that black incarceration rates for drug offenses are significantly higher, but you can’t blame it all on the drug war. In 2014, the share of the prison population in jail for only drug offenses was 16%.

One of the biggest culprits in the mushrooming prison population may be the plea-bargaining system. Plea bargains are a popular tool with prosecutors because it allows them the power to send someone to jail without having to deal much with judges. It’s a fast-moving, murky process that has likely scooped up some people who would otherwise be serving less time in jail, or perhaps no time at all.

Criminal justice reformers would also like to do away with mandatory-minimum sentencing and three-strikes laws that take the sentencing out of the hands of judges and create a sort of automatic sentencing structure that does not consider details of specific cases.

dinky-Warren makes her accusations, unfounded though they may be, because racism is the red meat of her campaign. In fact, her phony claims of Native American ancestry boosted her career for decades. You can be sure that she, along with other dummycrats-Democrat senators — especially those with plans in 2020 — will pick apart any prison reform proposed by Trump and Republicans. They won’t be specific about what they don’t like about the proposals. They’ll just jump around and yell “racism.” If the GOP were to get even some credit for prison reform, then it’s one less thing the Left can use to attack them.
