Today, Tea Party Nation endorses the new Republican sponsored American Health Care Act. This is the repeal and replacement for Obamacare.
For seven years, since the Democrats shoved Obamacare down America’s throat, the Republican Party has been running on the issue of repealing Obamacare. They ran on it in 2010, 2012, 2014 and 2016. This has been the one consistent promise the Republicans made. President Trump promised he would repeal Obamacare.
Now the Republicans have the majority in the Senate, House and the White House.
It is time.
The AHCA is not the perfect repeal and replacement. In fact, it is not even a repeal. It is however, a step forward
When the original AHCA was proposed, Tea Party Nation opposed it. It simply was not enough. Now, through the MacArthur Amendment, the AHCA is a bill worth supporting. The MacArthur Amendment allows states an almost absolute right to get waivers from Obamacare rules and regulations. This is a solution rooted in Federalism. This is a solution rooted in the Tenth Amendment. In fact, we could argue the AHCA with the MacArthur Amendment is one of the biggest victories for the 10th Amendment in recent years.
If the AHCA does not pass, we are stuck with Obamacare. This will be the last chance to begin the repeal process. Yes, this process is very unsatisfactory and much of the problem can be laid at the feet of Senator Mitch McConnell.
The only was Senator McConnell can push this through the Senate with only 51 votes is through the budget reconciliation process. The Democrats can filibuster any meaningful repeal. The budget reconciliation process limits what can be done. The real need here is for the Senate to simply abolish the filibuster. The filibuster was created in 1917 and is not in the Constitution. It is a rule and it is a rule the Democrats will do away with if they ever get back into power.
Until the Senate does away with the filibuster, right now, our options are limited. If we are to free the American people from the tyranny of Obamacare, it must start now.
The AHCA is not a perfect option. But with the limitations we face and the inclusion of the MacArthur Amendment, we believe it is now a bill worth passing.
We encourage all conservatives to call their Congressmen and Senators and encourage them to pass the AHCA with the MacArthur Amendment.
