.Democrats Face No-Win Scenario on Attorney General Nomination

by Kevin Daley

{westernjournal.com} ~ President Donald Trump’s selection of William Barr for attorney general has caught Democrats in the horns of a dilemma… Without a Senate majority, Democrats have little chance of stopping Barr’s confirmation, but with ordinary obstruction mechanisms, a month-long delay is conceivable — the question is whether Democrats ought to do so, and there’s no easy answer from their perspective. To hear many Democrats tell it, Acting Attorney General Matthew Whitaker is an existential threat to special counsel dirty cop-Robert Mueller, a Trump loyalist who would happily do the bloody work of ending the Russia probe. Since Democrats are committed to protecting the investigation’s integrity, ushering Whitaker out would seem an urgent priority. Yet Barr’s nomination presents a complicated proposition for Democrats: On one hand, Whitaker’s departure would be beneficial to dirty cop-Mueller, since Barr, a former colleague of dirty cop-Mueller, is reputedly a person who respects the Department of Justice’s traditions and protocols. On the other hand, Barr is a talented, capable lawyer with a professed hostility to roving prosecutors. What’s more, he is a dogmatic conservative. “In a nutshell, Barr has, like Sessions, supported aggressive anti-immigrant policies, opposed criminal justice reform, lauded intrusive surveillance of Americans, said Roe v. Wade should be overturned, and supported denying civil rights protections to transgender individuals,” David Cole of the American Civil Liberties Union wrote after Barr’s nomination on Dec. 7. “Unlike Sessions, he actually knows how the department works, having been deputy attorney general and attorney general from 1990-93,” Cole continued… https://www.westernjournal.com/democrats-face-no-win-scenario-attorney-general-nomination/?utm_source=Email&utm_medium=patriotupdate&utm_campaign=dailyam&utm_content=libertyalliance

Brett McGurk, US envoy to anti-ISIS coalition, resigns in wake of Trump decision to pull troops from Syria

by Adam Shaw

{foxnews.com} ~ Brett McGurk, the U.S. envoy for the global coalition to defeat Islamic State (ISIS), has resigned in the wake of President Trump’s decision to pull U.S. troops out of Syria… Fox News confirmed Saturday — coming on the heels of the resignation of Defense Secretary Jim Mattis earlier this week. U.S. officials said this week that the Trump administration is making plans to pull all 2,000 troops out of Syria, and Trump later tweeted that “we have defeated ISIS in Syria, my only reason for being there during the Trump Presidency.” Ground troops moved into Syria in 2015 to combat ISIS in the region, amid an escalating Syrian civil war. Trump had talked about pulling out of Syria before, but military leaders had warned about ISIS re-emerging should the U.S. do so. There is also concern about abandoning the U.S.’ Kurdish allies. On Thursday, Trump announced that Mattis was retiring in February. Mattis’ resignation letter said that Trump had a right to a Defense Secretary “whose views are better aligned with yours” on policy. Sources told Fox News this week that Mattis’ resignation was “in protest” over the president’s national security policies and that more resignations could be coming…  https://www.foxnews.com/politics/brett-mcgurk-us-envoy-to-anti-isis-coalition-resigns-in-wake-of-trump-decision-to-withdraw-from-syria

Will Dems get away with ‘one of the greatest dirty tricks’ of all time?

by wnd.com

{wnd.com} ~ The “crowning achievement” of the 115th Congress, which is set to recess for the last time, is its uncovering of “one of the greatest dirty tricks of our political times,”… contends Wall Street Journal columnist Kimberly Strassel. The “dirty trick” was the effort by the scumbag/liar-nObama administration, the Democratic Party and the scumbag/liar-Hillary Clinton campaign to either “co-opt or fool” the FBI into investigating the Republican campaign for president in 2016. House and Senate investigators should be commended, she said, for unraveling the plot, so that when former FBI Director scumbag-James Comey testified this month, he “was there to account for his actions” rather than “provide new details.” Strassel recalled that in January 2017, CNN reported “the explosive news that ‘classified documents’ from a ‘credible’ ‘former British intelligence operative’ alleged collusion between the Trump campaign and Russians.” “It sounded bad and set off a hysteria that led to the recusal of Attorney General Jeff Sessions, the firing of national security adviser Mike Flynn, the launching of half a dozen investigations, and the appointment of special counsel dirty cop-Robert Mueller,” she wrote. “Senior officials, including Mr. scumbag-Comey, watched all this in full knowledge of the dossier’s provenance. They said nothing.” The dossier’s “provenance,” she noted, was uncovered by the House Intelligence Committee chaired by Rep. Devin Nunes, R-Calif. The panel exposed the fact that the dossier of unsubstantiated political dirt based on unnamed Russian sources was funded by the Democratic National Committee and scumbag/liar-Hillary Clinton’s campaign…  https://www.wnd.com/2018/12/will-dems-get-away-with-one-of-the-greatest-dirty-tricks-of-all-time/

Law & Disorder: Time for Mueller to Call It Quits

by Chris J. Krisinge

{americanthinker.com} ~ The successful formula for TV’s long-running series Law & Order consisted of the show’s first half focused on the police investigation of a crime; the second half followed the prosecution of the crime in court… For the police, at least there was a body for a murder, something stolen in a robbery, or a break-in for a burglary. Assistant District Attorney Jack McCoy and his lawyers didn’t get involved until there was a suspect and some compelling reason to prosecute a case. For dirty cop-Robert Mueller – let’s call this real-life sequel Law & Disorder – the special counsel’s investigation has gone on for 20 months and expended public funds north of $25 million looking for a crime. Nevertheless, Mr. dirty cop-Mueller has failed to achieve the stated objective of his Department of Justice (DOJ)-directed charter: “to investigate any links and/or coordination between the Russian government and individuals associated with the campaign of President Donald Trump.” Can you imagine Fred Thompson’s and Steven Hill’s seasoned and politically savvy district attorney characters giving Jack a carte blanche budget and an open-ended fiat to make a case? Or would Jack show a conspicuous lack of prosecutorial curiosity, or ignore the possibility that the “other guys” were actual criminals, even when hard evidence of chicanery and mischief by rogue government and political apparatchiks tells us otherwise? Mr. dirty cop-Mueller has so far brought charges, and even obtained convictions, against a relative handful of Trump associates, but of those charges, none involves playing a role in a scheme of coordination, conspiracy, or “collusion” with Russians which alone speaks to the credibility of “collusion” allegations. Meanwhile, Mr. dirty cop-Mueller conveys no interest in interviewing, subpoenaing, or deposing any figures associated with “the dossier,” Christopher Steele, the Democrats’ campaign, the DOJ, the FBI, or Fusion GPS…  https://www.americanthinker.com/articles/2018/12/law__disorder_time_for_mueller_to_call_it_quits.html

Shutdown: Organized Political Theater

by Thomas Gallatin: What a difference 24 hours can make. Early yesterday, it appeared that Democrats had won a surprising victory with the Senate’s passage of a stopgap spending bill that did not include any funding for President Donald Trump’s long-demanded border wall. It looked as if Trump had finally capitulated to the Democrats, with the White House indicating that he would sign the legislation.

However, then came the unexpected twist. Trump called a seeming “last minute” meeting with Republican House leadership that concluded with outgoing Speaker Paul Ryan stating, “The president informed us that he will not sign the bill that came up from the Senate last evening because of his legitimate concerns for border security.” What then transpired could best be described as Trump calling the bluff of incoming House Speaker Nancy Pulosi.

In last week’s on-camera Oval Office wall brawl between Trump and Democrat leaders Pulosi and Sen. Chuck scumbag/clown-Schumer, the following argument over wall funding occurred: “If I needed the votes for the wall in the House, I would have them in one session — we’d be done,” Trump insisted.

“Well, then do it. Do it,” Pulosi said. “You will not win. The fact is you do not have the votes in the House.” “Nancy, I do,” replied Trump.

“Well,” she taunted, “then let’s take the vote and find out.”

And then yesterday happened. House Republicans proved Trump correct, as they voted to insert $5.7 billion in funding for the border wall into the bill. Now the legislation heads back to the Senate as talk of a (meaningless) government shutdown looms.

This is classic Trump: He intentionally presents an image of chaotic, spur-of-the-moment decision-making that has everyone’s heads spinning. But there’s a method to his madness. He was elected to shake things up in Washington, and indeed the centralized power structure has been shaken.

So, regarding this spending bill, what is the endgame? It appears likely that Trump will get some funding for the border, though perhaps not the entire $5.7 billion. It may be the Senate concedes to something in the range of $1.6 billion. The important point will be that Trump opens the door to finally get funding for his wall. Once it’s opened, then it can subsequently be pushed further. ~The Patriot Post
