Thank you for extending your friendship Barry. It is truly an honor to call you my friend and I look forward to the challenges that are set before us in this New Year. Knowing that there is still much work to do we also know that our victory is already won through our faith in Yeshua Ha Mashiach. Shalom my friend.

Barry, thank you for sharing your experiences in life with me. I'm sure it isn't so easy to dwell into the past. I am one who knows that well.

I'm sure it took courage to turn your life around and with the help of Hashem, you did a terrific job.

Your family tree seems fascinating. It's amazing that your brother was able to go back that far.

I started to do that, but haven't been able to go back more than 6 generations. My family roots have not appeared, for some reason, on Ancestry.com. I don't really know too many places to research this, other than going back to Hungary and find some more avenues, there.

But reading what you wrote, I am more and more convinced that you should read Stephen Dunbar's book, "Turbulant Souls"

In a short summary, he was raised by very observant Catholic parents. His mother was devout to a point that made him feel uneasy. He often felt uneasy in church. He always wondered why he never knew his grandparents on either side, nor have any other extended family. He had lots of siblings, I think it's 7. I read this book years ago, memory of it is fading.

Anyway, he finds out that he has lived in a lie all his life. Both his parents were born Jewish but converted before the war. Both of them were disowned. their parents sat Shiva for them that's why he didn't know he had a family. His mother was a close friend to the Archbishop of NYC.

The rest of the story is his revelation of his real life, meeting his grandparents and family and slowly assimilating into his roots. All through this his mother was totally against her son's actions.

It is a very revealing true story of his life. Today he is a very successful writer, journalist and he is a practicing Jew and feels very comfortable in his skin, as he said, because before he felt an alien  living in his parents' house. There's a lot more, but you should read the rest.

I can tell you found peace through your quest, because you are a very kind and passionate "Mensch".

Glad we are friends. Someday, soon I'll tell you my life story, which wasn't very pleasant, either. Thank goodness, it's behind us.

Shalon Aleichem,

Agi

Thanks for the kind words Barry.  I knew you looked familiar! And your name was to me as well. We all lead busy lives so however we can contribute to the cause is good. I work a lot too so I spend a lot of time writing to politicians versus going out and seeing them.

I'm a member of the 9-12/Lehigh Valley Tea Party. Have we met? I've recently been nominated for an exec board position and am actively involved in health care reform.

Barry, I really appreciate about how patient you are with me.  I don't watch television and videos like this because I have now way of checking whether what they say or true or not.  The videos you point to are gut wrenching but the liberal media does the same kind of things so I am careful any time someone shows me pictures and tells me facts on a video.  When I can check the "facts" are rarely true. I think there are a lot of reasonable questions we can ask about Obama.  I am sure people dislike him for a variety of reasons.  I carefully read the report from S&P and it said that it was the uncertainty about the ability of the US to act and the threats to not raise the debt ceiling that caused them to lower our credit rating.   From the current poll numbers I don't think people are buying that this is all Obama's fault.  If the Tea Party is nothing but going after Obama, what will it be when Obama is gone?  Suppose an angel came down and bopped Obama on the head and he suddenly turned into a Good American, what would he do?  If  we get rid of him and get in our perfect person, what would he or she do?  You don't have to convince me that we need a new president, I am a Republican and I came to this group partially interested in what other possibilities there are.

I know that this will probably make you mad, so I am sorry, but unfortunately I agree with this article.  Yes, I read the liberal New York Times sometimes when I find links  (I read the Wall Street Journal too, but I don't watch TV at all).  It seems to me that the Tea Party is not really conservative but more anti-Muslim.

http://www.nytimes.com/2011/08/17/opinion/crashing-the-tea-party.html

I am an Episcopalian.  We let anyone take communion (even Muslims)  at our church and gays and women can be priests so I don't think that I would be welcome in the Tea Party.  I don't think the Tea Party has anything to do with taxes or the economy at all.  I think it is about fighting Muslim takeover of the US.  I am not convinces that Obama is a Muslim or that the .8% of people in America that are Muslims are a threat, so if that is all the Tea Party is about, there is really not point for me to be in it.  I am economically conservative and when you read the blubs on the Tea Party, that is what they say, but that is not the truth about it, it is really a religious organization that is a special type of Christianity that won't even accept a Christian like me and is making a war with Islam.

Thanks for the suggestions, I will keep looking.  However, I just checked and found that in recent polls the tea party is less popular than atheists and that congress, partially due to the actions on the debt ceiling is the least popular it has ever been in history:

http://news.yahoo.com/blogs/ticket/survey-surprising-finding-tea-party-less-popular-atheists-160220531.html

I would like to make sure that we do not go down the path of socialism but I looked at other Tea Party websites and they all seem to have the same idea that bringing down Obama is the goal and that they do not really seem to care about what happens to the country as a result.  My degree was in business and economics and what the congress did with debt ceiling was not smart.   I came here because I was curious, I am a Christian, a Republican and politically active so it seems like I could be someone that you would might want to have involved, but the more I see the more I realize that this is probably not going to be an effective long term way to solve our problems.

Thanks Barry, but I guess I am a "country club Republican" because my dad has business and employs people and is rich.  He, and his friends, are also educated and intelligent. It does not do any good to say things that are flat wrong to him or anyone else I know.  I really don't think the Tea Party will go very far.  I see they are way down in the polls.  They bite the hand that feeds them.  I think Mitt Romney is the best bet for this election. He is not exactly who I would pick, but the stuff here is mean and crazy and I don't think most women will go for it and we vote.

Well said, Barry, my new friend. I, too, have some quotations.  I have studied Islam and Shariah law, which makes me furious when people tell me to tolerate and accomodate the Muslims infiltrating our institutions so they can destroy us from within. G. K. Chesterson said, "Tolerance is the virtue of a man without convictions." It is ignorant Americans who tolerate the Stealth Jihad of Islam, and it is these same Americans whose lack of personal convictions allows the Government to make their decisions for them. We must gather as one voice, and act in concert, to prevent the Socialist/Marxist takeover of our Republic. As Winston Churchill said, "Capitalism is the unequal sharing of blessings; Socialism is the equal sharing of miseries."  We must stay strong, and make sure we keep our Second Amendment rights. As for me, I have joined Veteran Defenders. A Founder, George Mason, said, "To disarm the people (is) the best and most effectual way to enslave them." This was done in Germany and Russia when Hitler and Lenin took over. George Washington said, "Firearms stand next in importance to the Constitution itself. They are the American people's liberty teeth and keystone under independence."  He, and other Founders, warned that big government would try to take away our liberties, and that we might have to fight to preserve them.    Ron

Barry, you are most correct...and this is something that will start to change over the next few weeks.  And to solidify the correctness in your statement, I heard Sean Hannity tell Herman Cain that exact same thing a couple of days ago.  Now, if Herman Cain has a problem with name recognition, you know I do.
