In Federalist #63 Madison and Hamilton quell fears of corruption and the abuse of power. In doing so they state that in order for the Senate to establish tyranny, the balance of power AS WELL AS the checks upon usurpation would have to be overcome.
“Before such a revolution can be effected, the Senate, it is to be observed, must in the first place corrupt itself; must next corrupt the State legislatures; must then corrupt the House of Representatives; and must finally corrupt the people at large. It is evident that the Senate must be first corrupted before it can attempt an establishment of tyranny. Without corrupting the State legislatures, it cannot prosecute the attempt, because the periodical change of members would otherwise regenerate the whole body. Without exerting the means of corruption with equal success on the House of Representatives, the opposition of that coequal branch of the government would inevitably defeat the attempt; and without corrupting the people themselves, a succession of new representatives would speedily restore all things to their pristine order. Is there any man who can seriously persuade himself that the proposed Senate can, by any possible means within the compass of human address, arrive at the object of a lawless ambition, through all these obstructions?”
God's children were given a mandate to have Dominion over the world from the very instant of our creation (Gen 1:26). To carry out this mandate we were given both God's Law and, after numerous historical societal failures, finally a complimentary civil law called the U.S. Constitution. Next we were warned by both God Himself and by the framers, that being a just and moral people was a requisite to success.
“We have no government armed with power capable of contending with human passions unbridled by morality and religion. Avarice, ambition, revenge, or gallantry, would break the strongest cords of our Constitution as a whale goes through a net. Our Constitution was made only for a moral and religious people. It is wholly inadequate to the government of any other.” John Adams.
Thus John Adams correctly discerns that God's mandate to have Dominion ACCORDING TO HIS PRINCIPLES play a significant role in our success. Considering our present situation, it is clear to see that the framers were correct !! Each of their warnings echo God's mandate of Dominion through Righteousness by pointing out the consequences of the alternative. We do NOT have a political problem or a moral problem in America.
We have a political problem BECAUSE we have a moral problem !
We were given 2 seperate laws- one divine, the other civil, yet both were complimentary NOT antagonistic to the other. Thus, a Divine thruth is evident: Civil government without reliance upon BOTH God's Authority and His Direction is an abject and predictable failure. Every Biblical and historical society testify to this very fact! The framers understood this as evinced in the plethora of references in the Federalist Papers, as in the founding documents themselves.
“We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness- That to secure these Rights, Governments are instituted among Men, deriving their just powers from the consent of the governed...” (Declaration of Independence)
The final phrase of the Declaration makes a HUGE admission casually observed or missed altogether by most people. That is; to “derive just powers” requires a SOURCE which already POSSESSES JUST POWER. You cannot derive anything from an empty vessel ! Further, if that source already possesses them, by what authority? Two sentences prior, Jefferson explains that man is endowed by his Creator with unalienable rights. Thus the ultimate SOURCE of POWER AND AUTHORITY are derived from God ! If you do not understand this elementary principle nothing else will matter. NOTHING!
“We the People of the United States, in Order to form a more perfect Union, establish Justice, insure domestic Tranquility, provide for the common defense, promote the general Welfare, and secure the Blessings of Liberty to ourselves and our Posterity, do ordain and establish this Constitution for the United States of America.” (Preamble to U.S. Constitution)
There is a clear admission that the source of the principles referenced derive from the Holy Scriptures themselves. Thus the Judeo-Christian concepts; Creator, Rights, just, Justice, Blessings of Liberty, establish and ordain, all lend themselves to scriptural rendering. Using a Strong's Expanded Exhaustive Concordance we can reach back thousands of years and discover the source of these terms and their original meanings (prior to translation). The term “Creator” needs no explanation. Let us therefore consider the remainder of the concepts.
“Just” is an Old Testament (OT) concept which in the Hebrew is rendered “tsadaq” or “tsedeq”. The words denote the principals of righteousness and justification by God. Tsedeq is a right, whether NATURAL, MORAL or LEGAL. A single line of text from the Declaration of Independence shows that Jefferson had the profound understanding to incorporate ALL THREE (natural, moral, and legal) in the Declaration ; “ equal station to which the Laws of Nature and of Nature's God entitle them,...” Tsedeq” signifies the legal status of a relationship as between God and his Creation; specifically a voluntary pledge [by faith] of obedience to God's Law and Will. Similarly, “justice” and “justified” render as the legal or moral consequence to either obedience or disobedience of the Law. One of the aspects of “tsedeq” is that God cannot usurp His own Law. There are no “amendments”, votes, etc. rather, it is fixed , perfect, and eternal.
The Scriptural principle of “Law” is requisite for the concepts of “just”, “justice” to have effect. The “Law” in the Hebrew is rendered “Torah” which signifies primary teaching, instruction or direction and is derived from the verb; “yarah” which means to point out. The Law of God therefore, is that which “points out” the direction God's will toward man. But it is much more than a set of rules. Rather than a hindrance or restriction, Torah is a means whereby one can reach a goal or ideal. For Israel, the Torah, in its truest sense, was given to enable Israel to truly become and remain God's special people. We can therefore conclude that in keeping the law (Torah), Israel was kept.
“Law”, in the Greek rendering is nosmos; law, in the general sense, and nomotheteo; which is legislation, enactments, sanction by statute. This word means, essentially- to ordain by law, put, establish. The Preamble phrase “..do ordain and establish this Constitution...” is the American manifestation of the New Testament concept of nomotheteo.
“Liberty” is the most exciting of the key words and the fact that it appears in BOTH documents is not coincidental. Liberty is the LEAST UNDERSTOOD CONCEPT TODAY !!
It is the embodiment and combination of freedom, rights, power and authority all contained in a single word. If “Liberty” were a market item, it would have the phrase “Ultra-Concentrated” upon its package.
“Liberty”, or the “Law of Liberty” (James 1:25, 2:12; 2 Corinthians 3:17)
Greek- eleutheria, eleutheros, eleutheroo- Liberty or Freedom.
Eleutheria as a noun means liberty.
Eleutheros as an adjective means freedom to go wherever one likes, unrestrained, a freeman as opposed to a slave in bondage or otherwise restricted by a master; exempt
Eleutheroo as a verb means to set free, deliver. The creature itself also shall be delivered from the bondage of corruption into the glorious liberty of the children of God (Rom 8:21) also to make free “And ye shall know the truth and the truth shall make you free” Jn 8:32) In the first sense there is influence acting upon one's being as a ransom being paid, in the second sense the influence is self administered, (IE The act of learning the truth brings liberty) the complete concept of liberty embraces both internal and external influence.
Exousia as a noun denotes authority, power, mastery, force, privilege, liberty, right, strength, or jurisdiction. This was derived from the meaning of leave or permission and passed to that of the ability or strength with which one is endued, then to the power of authority, the right to exercise power, or power of rule or government. The plenary concept is power of one whose will and commands must be obeyed by others.
Our founding documents embody a powerful principle which many, if not most Americans have surrendered in significant part; that is the principle of liberty. As shown above, liberty is not reflective of the incidental rights Americans so vehemently exalt , BUT THE WHOLE, COMPLETE, AND PLENARY POSSESSION OF POWER AND AUTHORITY. The rights to free speech, to keep and bear arms, to assemble, etc, are mere ITEMS or separate components of our sovereign power. The Greek translation of liberty; Exousia makes it plain that We the People have a much more complete and powerful authority than the mere rights enumerated in the first ten amendments. The concept of Exousia is an absolute authority over the government which WE THE PEOPLE DID ORDAIN AND ESTABLISH !!! There is no JUST reason for us to acquiesce to a limited version of authority and power according to the misinterpretations of the various branches of government. We are the unequivocal Masters of our government with no need for apologies or regret. We are exercising our power by the authority and command of God Almighty. Our dominion as free persons by God's grace, mercy, and peace (properly ordered) was well understood by the framers and is clearly evinced in both the language and form which was established by the Constitution.
It is high time that the Church recognize its duty to the congregations of America to teach these simple truths, which our framers unabashedly admitted “to be self-evident” instead of reducing their influence in civil matters to Matthew 22:21. The Judeo-Christian principles involved in the formation of our government are supremely more consequential than a trifling verse concerning civil obedience to money changers. The fundamental message of scripture, and specifically the New Covenant is the purchased release from bondage readily ascertained from John 8:32 in as much as “If the Son shall set you free, you shall be free indeed.” echoed and confirmed in multiple verses of both Testaments. Yet in spite of this unequivocal truth, and its PROFOUND impact upon civil government, the Church, in effort to maintain tax exempt status under section 501(c)3 of the Internal Revenue Code, (a civil statute many times inferior to God's statutes and a direct contradiction to the principle of “first fruits”) is content to restrain their influence over the flock and the inherent TRUTH of the blessings of dominion and authority. As Joseph was sold over to slave traders by jealous kinsmen, so too the Church has contented itself with selling its congregation into civil bondage for a tax exemption. Woe unto you!
The whole image and phraseology of “Eleutheria” in the New Testament is that of manumission from slavery, which among the Greeks was effected by a legal fiction, according to which the manumitted slave was purchased by a god; as the slave could not provide the money, the master paid it into the temple treasury in the presence of the slave, a document being drawn up containing the words “for freedom”. No one could enslave him again, as he was the property of the god. This Greek secular practice is the mirror image of our Lord and Saviour upon the Cross, which is to be the unyielding and empowering message of hope, to the glory of the Father. Yet both the complete blessings of liberty inherent in believers, and the glory due God Almighty, is cast away by tepid Pastors ( Rev 3:16) faithful NOT to the King of Kings and Lord of Lords (1Ti 6:15), but to a transient civil body comprised in earnest of those spoken of in Romans 1:28-32 which God gave over to a reprobate mind.
As believers and co-heirs to the Kingdom, We the People have ABSOLUTELY NO justification for timidity !! Ours is a majestic decree of power and sovereignty imposed of the highest Authority. The abbreviated rights to recite a prayer at a football game, or to keep and bear arms pale in comparison to the sovereign authority and power we have over our own destiny. This tenacity for singular and abbreviated rights illustrates the principle “authority not exercised is lost” . In our surrender, we have been reduced to clinging to a handful of remaining “rights” and ignoring the FULL BLESSINGS OF LIBERTY with which we are endowed. Our framers were uniquely aware of the extent of our strength. The phrases; “..Blessings of Liberty..” , and “...deriving their just powers from the consent of the governed.” are decidedly more providential and significant than we have been induced to accept.
We have a mandate to exercise our faith and to trust in the fullness and authority of God. We are called to utilize our sovereign authority to restore the Rule of Law under our Constitution. The Lord of Hosts, morality, justice, logic and our own Constitution are each on OUR side.
