Buried among the hoopla of the newest Pope, Francis, is a story that Florida Lieutenant Governor Jennifer Carroll has resigned due to a scandal involving "Allied Veterans of the World" and their alleged operations of gambling halls disguised as "Business Centers" or "Internet Cafes". Nearly 60 others have been formally charged with crimes after an investigation by the Florida Department of Law Enforcement.
This organization would pride itself on helping Florida veterans but apparently didn't deem it necessary to inform the public that millions it had raised were actually spent on salaries, boats, beachfront condos and exotic cars such as Maseratis, Ferraris, and the like.
From what I have read, this group raised some $300 million from 2007-2012 yet only donated around $6 million, or about 2%, to charities and other organizations to help the veteran.
Florida law, such as it is, allows these de facto gambling halls if most of the proceeds go to charity. The 49 locations owned and operated by Allied Veterans, one of which was not far from me, were all shut down by the State of Florida.

Comment by American Infidel on March 14, 2013 at 8:33am Michael, yes, the "veterans" group was and is corrupt. The link between Jennifer Carroll and this group is not clear. She may have, years ago, been one of the attorneys hired by the group to basically just have on hand. I am not aware of any litigation she was involved in with them. Their relationship remains unclear at this time.
We have to look at the big picture here. It is extremely important to the Left that all minority conservatives be destroyed. Not just taken down a peg, but destroyed. Carroll may have been planning to run for Governor in 2014 or beyond. It was crucial to the Left to destroy Carroll, and they did not care how they did it. You may recall a few months ago they tried to falsely accuse Carroll of being gay. When that did not stick, they kept digging for any straw they could grab. Rick Scott probably forced her out because he is circling the drain in terms of popularity and was worried she would drag him down. What he does not realize is that he dragged himself down, all by himself.
Is she guilty of wrongdoing? Possibly. I doubt it. All I have to do is look at what the Left did to Herman Cain, Allen West, and other black conservatives who refused to be enslaved to the Dem Plantation, and it is easy to see the pattern. Where are the women who falsely accused Herman Cain now? We both know Allen West had the election stolen from him, and that was no accident. Jennifer Carroll was a "sleeper cell" conservative, someone who had been conservative all her life, and therefore she was big threat to the Dems.
Not any more. They got her.

P.P.S. The "internet cafes" that are actually gambling halls are called "sweepstakes" halls over here on the west coast of Florida. Most counties over here have outlawed them. For example, Pasco county has outlawed them, but Hernando county still allows them. It would be very nice to see all of them go, to be sure.
