Comment by Mary Vaughan on January 2, 2013 at 12:34am Cap, thank you for your article; insiteful as always. I have been mentioning this problem about our children to all that I can these days. I realized that our children are not being brought up to have any type of patriotic beliefs about America at all. I am about your age and when we were brought up we said the Pledge of Alliegence every morning. We bowed our heads for prayer. We were reminded daily, through these small actions, of how great America was, how important our freedoms were, and that we had God with us. We had hope, we had dreams of growing up and contributing to this great nation. What is it that our children have to look forward to today? What are our children learning about freedom and opportunity when all that they see is our constitution erroding away? People wonder why so many children are committing suicide, killing others. Those individuals should be looking back on a time when life was good, inspiring, hopeful and strive to replicate that nation again. The one being presented to our children is a society of blame, hate, selfishness and anguish. We need to come together as a nation, regardless of our differences and remember that we collectively, can make great strides in restoring faith, pride and dreams of a better tomorrow. I don't believe that any parent wishes anything but the best in life for our children, so it is time to do what is right for THEM and generations to follow.
Comment by Susan J.Morningstar on January 1, 2013 at 5:45pm I wrote an essay entitled "What America Means to Me" when in grade school. Every morning we rose, turned toward the flag and proudly spoke our devotion to the country. I was so proud to be an American. Where is such love of country instilled today? The left railed against the pledge in school, couldn't abide the mention of god, and have started to decry fourth of July parades. How utterly subversive! The hate America campaign has paid off for them, but at what horrible cost to our country. We ought not to have allowed it, but they had a plan and a goal. They out maneuvered the unwary country. Who of us dreamed they could destrroy all that was America?
Comment by Susan J.Morningstar on January 1, 2013 at 5:23pm A great insight. The ones who are peddling the "poison" you write about have blood on their hands. For everyone's sake, especially fragile personalities, we need calm and order. The country is upset and angry. I suggest the late rash of shootings is directly the result of the hate filled campaign we just struggled through.
Thanks,
I would hope that it would start at home and be nourished at school and allowed to breath freely in College or the workplace but those days are long gone and we need them to be brought back. Socialist have attacked our schools, Churches, Colleges and the workplace. While we have enjoyed the fruits of our labors, they have labored to take the fruit away and have made a real noticable dent in our way of life. Should the Congress kick the can one more time they will have taken probably the last step in their plan to bankrupt and destroy America. Congress now sits between socialism and sanity for America.
