It’s always a good idea at the beginning of the long political marathon that leads to Election Day to remind ourselves that we are electing a politician, not a saint.

It’s also a good idea to keep firmly in mind that everyone we do elect is a human being with all the flaws and failures of judgment and behavior that comes with that dubious distinction.

When he was campaigning, Jimmy Carter made much of his being a born again Christian and having taught bible studies at his church. He turned out to be a dunce at just about everything else. That toothy grin of his was the predecessor of Barack Obama’s famed dazzling smile.

As various Republicans toss their hat in the ring, they will have been subjected to vigorous and sometimes vicious “opposition research” by Obama’s campaign team and, surprise, by those representing their opponents.

It is one of the great mysteries of our time is that none of them have discovered that Ron Paul, the Libertarian, is not in fact from some distant planet instead of Texas. Few candidates advocate nuttier ideas non-stop than Dr. Paul. If you want comic relief, keep an eye on him. On the subject of nutty ideas, Romneycare is one that candidate Mitt Romney keeps defending and will until he likely loses the nomination. Bad ideas are bad ideas not matter whose name is associated with them.

In her Saturday column for The Wall Street Journal, former Reagan speechwriter Peggy Noonan reflected on the continuing popularity of New Jersey Governor Chris Christie who keeps being asked if he will run despite constant denials. She even speculated that there might be a draft Christie movement if the other candidates prove to be too boring or inept to defeat Obama.

That’s what makes politics so much fun. It also makes a run for the presidency an expensive effort and one that requires the stamina of an Olympic contestant. Noonan called Christie “normal”, adding that “A lot of people at this point in history think only the abnormal run for president.” And speaking of normal, Herman Cain fits that description and may begin to look very good to voters as time goes along.

Normal or abnormal, the power abrogated to the mainstream press remains intact as too many people rely on what is surely that most biased “reporting” to be found in a presumably free nation. In the tank for any Democrat, readers and viewers will have to look elsewhere for alternative sources of news about Republican candidates.

Having voted since the days of John F. Kennedy, I confess that since my parents were Democrats, I was a Democrat. I paid little attention to the merits of the Democrat candidate, nor any of his promises. I suspect a lot of people vote like that, but as Paul says in First Corinthians, “When I was a child, I spake as a child, I understood as a child, I thought as a child: but when I became a man, I put away childish things.”

I cast my first Republican vote for Ronald Reagan and have not taken any Democrat candidate seriously since. After Reagan I endured eight years of Bill Clinton including his impeachment for lewd behavior in the Oval Office.

Little did I or anyone else know what a complete looney Al Gore, his vice president was.

Al gave his wife, Tipper, a huge, lengthy kiss before accepting the nomination and I am pretty sure even a lot of Democrats were cringing. We dodged a big bullet when George W. Bush defeated him.

But! George W. helped run up the largest deficit in modern times while President and Obama multiplied it to the point of putting the nation in its worst financial crisis since the end of the Civil War.

This is why the economy is going to be the single, over-riding issue of the 2012 elections and why Barack Obama can spend a billion dollars to get reelected, but will be defeated.

Americans do not elect Presidents who preside over inflation, unemployment, housing foreclosures, Obamacare, open borders, and a lifestyle in office that rivals Arab sheiks.

We have to wait until the end of the month to learn if Indiana Governor Mitch Daniel will run. If he does, he will be the most fiscally conservative candidate and Republican primary voters will grow accustomed to his lack of charisma, his dry wit, his abundance of good sense, and record of good governance.

Add Rick Santorum and Tim Pawlenty to the field of those making a serious effort. Forget Sarah Palin who will not run and Donald Trump whose run will end the day “The Apprentice” finishes its present season.

That leaves Newt Gingrich and the aforementioned Ron Paul. They are the circus sideshow before you get to the big tent. I don’t even think Newt is running to be elected. I think he’s running to increase the sales of present and future books, dvds, cds and possibly t-shirts.

As for saints, they are very scarce among politicians. Anyone remember John Kerry’s running mate, John Edwards? Or former Senator John Ensign, Republican from Nevada? Or…or…or…all the rest that embarrassed themselves and everyone who voted for them?

The profession of politics calls for the moral flexibility of a contortionist. Former President Harry Truman said it best, "My choice early in life was either to be a piano player in a whorehouse or a politician. And to tell the truth, there's hardly any difference."

I get so tired when people twist words to suit their desired outcome.  Romney, if one reads what he actually is saying, is not defending RomneyCare.  The fact is he has called a failure.  I don't see that as a defense.

What he has defended is the State's Right to enact any type of health care bill that State so desires.  And I for one agree wholeheartedly.  I wish all 50 states would enact or not enact various schemes.  Gee!  Do you think that is what federalism is all about.  And then the process begins the weeding out process in the hopes of ending up with the best method/program/process.  And sometimes that answer is to do nothing at all.

Hmmmmmmmmm, I'll like that idea.  And I think Our Founding Fathers liked it also.

Donald Trump has decided not to run for President. That hurts, but I think we should look at the ideas he presented to the public in his speeches. And also many of the Great people who is dropping out of the race. We need negotiators that are professional to represent the USA in all aspects of business with other countries. Not someone who missed and took a position as Secretary of State in return for loosing a election.  That woman can not even control her own family much less a country. Our country should start negotiations on everything. Even after a bad situation.  We also should expect reimbursement for our weapons, strategies used and a deep price for loss of life and limb for our troops. There is no dollar amount but a continuous debt for the family of the fallen troops by that country. Now if a country does not want to abide by this agreement, we go in and defend it and make it a territory of the United States subject to our law and paying taxes into our county and it must have something that is of value for this to happen. We should not have troops anywhere in harms way without a personal gain for the USA. And when we go in we go into to win without regards for their way of life but only victory in the shortest amount of time and expense. When oil goes up in price so should our wheat, corn and grain, also our out of the country tuition for colleges. We do not need to educate future terrorist. The open door policy for anyone from anywhere for any reason. We need to shut that revolving door and put a controlled limit from each country and the right also to use it. Now about the ones already here that want to change our country in protest of how someone is treated by our government. Let them have what I call "The Experience", they can go to that country and live as they do on their own. The government will give them a one way ticket, and seize all their assets to make way and those assets to be use for the next of their Hollywood friends trip out of the country. Now I did say Hollywood but it goes beyond that with politicians, media, ministers, businessmen and anyone who wants to burn a flag, that we have defended for almost 250 years and so many has died to protect the way of life. Now if a person in politics or in the public eye as a person that should be respected commits a crime he should have to pay twice the punishment for the crime and bring back public humiliation of court house hangings. We might collect some of our back taxes from the Senate and Congress with this law. Any increase in pay for Congress and the Senate should be place on the next Presidential Ballot not voted on by few, while they take food from others like they did in the last Social Security Insurance Freeze. By the way over the years the word Insurance has been taken away from Social Security has been taken away and replaced with benefit, it is not a benefit if you have paid into it. It is and insurance and should be paid out only to LEGAL USA Citizens """"ONLY"""". Also time clocks installed in both Congress and the Senate, you pay them why not control their attendance we might get more done in Washington. The next Presidential election a revised pay structure should be on the ballot for the 2012 ballot for all government workers. Run the country like a business not like a movie of " Bill and Ted's Great Adventures." Government waste is a major problem and I have a plan for that also.  I am not a politician and I am not supporting anyone in the election Republican or Democrat and I might not even support a Tea Partier but I will support the cantidate I think will meet at least part of my requirements, and nothing else. I will very proudly write on my ballot " I Support NONE of the Above." Now here is a copy of my plan for government waste. I did not write this today I have worked on it for a while. AND it WILL work. I am a retired man with A lot of COMMON Sense like our forefathers had.

I get really upset when I see the waste our government has in almost every area of spending. I do a lot of Internet bidding at auction sites. I go to the sites and see things for auction that are in groups of 200 or 300. Not many people want to buy in that quantity but the government keeps putting it up for sale even though it goes for pennies on the dollar and it is done through a 3rd party system, which means they are getting a commissions on top of that. Some of the things that really gets me is things like this:
** A part that is rare or hard to find and the quantity is 10,000 of them for auction, who over ordered and why.
** A sailboat or a jet ski. Yes they are listed at each base.
** An expensive military equipment like a 6 x 6 by wrecker that sold new for $ 185,000 and has only 10,000 miles on it, with a starting bid of $ 150.00.
** Pounds of scarp metal, lets say usually it is about 100,000 to 1,000,000 pounds sold at a time because no one will take it to a salvage yard.  it is below their status in military ranking.
** Pick up trucks that are only a few years old that are moved around the storage facility by a fork truck not used properly and drive shafts are other parts damaged because no one cared.
** Enough tents to that could form a small city for homeless and sold at auction because they was not stored correctly, some new in packaging.
** Clothing sold by boxes that look like they are 4 foot square and 4 foot deep and just threw in and piled in. On a pallet 2 to 10 pallets at a time.
** Sleeping bags that are good to below 30 degrees being sold for pennies on the dollar when we have people freezing to death in almost every major city in the north each winter.
** Cars and trucks and other items sold at oversea bases which should be shipped back home and sold here.
not for pennies to a country that is probably corrupt anyway and it be used against us in a car bombing.
I will list these wasteful sites that these auctions are at the bottom of the article, if you think I am exaggerating look them over. We are making some rich people richer, and another way to keep our poor in their place and staying poor. These are the FREE sites, many sites charge to even look at the items and someone is making money that way.
I suggest we ship all this stuff to the desert to a abandoned military base and sell and ship it all over the world not to just a few that are going to resale the items. And when makes a ridiculous order for parts or something that is not needed. Prosecute them, They are stealing money our of YOUR pockets.
We should not need to have recreational sail boats, recreational motor boats, recreational motor cycles, surfboards for sale they are not a military item used to protect our country.
I am sure a lot of the items that are sold on these sites could be used by smaller government agencies that can not afford to buy them. Like buses, mowing equipment, trucks, cars, firetrucks, police motorcycles, police cruisers.
There should not be any third party making money from excess equipment that YOUR tax dollars are taking the loss for. Last week I went to a United States Post Office Auction I found out about. It was items that was not deliverable by the USPS in the Atlanta Gerogia Hub. Each month these items are sold. I was told by one person working at the auction this was on of their smallest auctions they had in a while. They sold over $1,000,000.00 of items that day. All of it new most of it stacked into what they called 80 pound hampers which was a box on rollers 4 foot cube and all packages sorted by what it was with clear plastic on top, you could not see but what was on top. Now the unique way of this auction showed me they did not care how much the items brought. If an item was for bid you wanted you would hold your bidding paddle up until it went beyond what you wanted to pay for it then take your paddle down. Last paddle in the air was the winner. Now I will give you a few of the items I did manage to see sell and the amount the item brought. 2 Tractor trailers of books. One hard cover one paperbacks. One went for $ 67,000.00 and the other went for $ 41,000.00. Now I like
digital cameras and they had a 2 -- 80 pound hampers of new in the packaging stacked to the top of brand new cameras the post office could not deliver or did not want to deliver or return. As fast as things went through which was very quick. Nothing was shown just an item number read and bidding started which usually lasted less than 15 seconds. There was 4 -- 80 pound hampers of new still in the cellophane wrapper of DVD's. That brought $ 3,000.00 to $ 4,000.00 each. Which is about 2,500 to 3,000 movies in each hamper.

The 4 hours went by pretty quick and the person I had talked earlier stopped me and asked me what I thought about the auction. I was very honest and laughed and responded. "Well, I realize if you want something to get where I want, I will send it by UPS or Federal Express, now as far as the auction goes, it is just another government screw up." Think about this. You The "Tax Payer" or others was waiting on the item but it could not be delivered due to some reason. It was not sent back to the shipper. Due to the shipper should have paid extra for insurance. Doesn't that sound like a Mafia thing.. Insurance this way. Now the insurance company. It has paid out the insurance claims for lost items, which raise YOUR insurance premiums. Should not this product not be theirs to dispose of the way they want instead of the Post Office. And the over a million dollars taken in monthly does that money go back into the general fund or just where does it go. It is your money do you want to know ?

Now here is my suggestion on how to improve all of this system. For military items, police confiscation, surplus equipment, property and even USPS, A military base which was closed due to funding that is setting vacant have ALL surplus materials shipped to it. Listed on a web site for 6 months. This might allow a firetruck for a small community that can not afford a new one. When a tractor trailer brings a load in to the site. The truck will not be empty going back. Items that have been bought can be shipped to a closer location to be picked up at a discounted rate. The base itself could be used as a housing for the employees of the surplus materials. Creating homes for some and jobs for many. Items sold could be priced in several categories. The least amount to another Government smaller like city, state, or county. Second would none profit organizations like churches, schools, clinics. Third which would be the highest to the general public at purchasing an individual item or multiple items of the same at discounts. Internet stores could be set up for a variety of items. Any organization that accepts Federal, State or Local government funding should have to have their surplus and salvage turned into this site and accounted for by cost and what it was salvaged for. Last but not least a government 30 day auction. Set up like e bay. With all funds from all funds going to operations cost of the storage facility the remainder going back into the general fund of the US Government. Items not sold taken apart and salvaged and sorted to materials and recycled. Even a group of restores could be set up and items refurbished to use again. Now we do not have to buy tractor and trailers. They are already available on the sites, we do not have to buy property, the US Government already owns this. No third party will be getting commissions of the loss of your tax dollars, a small community can afford a new firetruck to save a house from a fire, or a church that is not very large can afford a buss to pick up and deliver members to their church. No one there needs to be making more than the President of the USA. When a country is in the black on the items, share with the people the gift of lower taxes by having more money and less taxes, But when a country is in the red, tighten the belt and get as much as you can out of the item.

Check these FREE sites out for the waste of YOUR Government Waste.

Federal military site only :::http://www.govliquidation.com/

Federal military around the world www.liquidation.com
A mix of state federal ;;;;;;;;www.publicsurplus.com
Police confiscation and surplus;;www.propertyroom.com
Look these sites over. You will be shocked at the waste and how it is catered to the large dollar amounts.
Oh the United States Post Office auction I told you about earlier. There was about 100 people there that spent over a million dollars. This is each month......http://www.usps.com/auctions/
Between these few sites I could take $ 100,000.00 and pay it back in 2 months and live off the remainder the rest of my life in 6 months.

How many times have you passed by a work crew on the roads and seen 5 or 6 people standing around leaning on a shovel, never using it and 1 or 2 people doing all the work. This is food for thought for my next major complaint. I have a solution for this also. At a cost of about 1/5 of the present cost.

I am just a retired man that made lots of money for many different people and I know how to sell things. I hope I sold you on this idea.

I am really amazed at the response on this topic. So many times a discussion will be about things that really do not seem to matter that much. This is the most important event in our history that repeats itself ever 4 years. Since the last election we have found that our Career Lifetime Dead Beat Politicians live on and figure out ways to get YOUR tax dollars everyday and send it all over the world while we have people here starving and homeless. Please tale this seriously we was all given the greatest snow job yet with "Time For A Change". It changed all right it got worse.Lets just leave all the dummies in Washington and move the capital to Oklahoma and start all over again with a piece of paper that was written in 1776. The basis of this document is great but it the unemployable lawyers in politics have almost destroyed it.

We need a "NEW" American hero for our next President. The world is quickly becoming a military state. We should look at our military people for a man who stands out in the public and his name is known by all. It seems all our hero's have choose to step away from the limelight. Lets hope he will reappear soon and diffinately give us hope for our country.

PS,,,If the Tea Party backs Newt G,,,then I quit.      Anyone who serves their wife with 'divorce' papers while she is in the hospital with Cancer,,,does NOT get my vote & in my opinion,,should NOT get the TPN's vote either.

Gingrich may be a brilliant man,,,but he has NO class. If he doesn't care for his own,,how will he care for US??

Herman Cain & Allen West,,,,,put them on the ballot,,,& watch the Left cringe when they cannot shout 'Racist' which in most cases is the only card they know how to play.

Do we have a true conservative to support or vote for?
Comment by Ron Proctor on May 16, 2011 at 7:46pm
We the People of The United States of America elect people who want to be fair, equal, and have some human faults. We do NOT want people who lie and make false promises. We do NOT want people in the White House who abuse the position for personal gain on a regular basis and get away with by legal mumbo jumbo. " I did not have sex with that WOMAN !" was his exact words to the entire nation when his DNA ( sperm ) was all over her dress that she convienently saved for a rainy day. The US Citizen has been lied to and treated like a child by the "So Called Career Politicians", that can not and will not ever do an honest days work as the rest of US Citizens work everyday both the husband and the wife to put food on their table and a roof over their head. They deny increases in pay to our Seniors who have toiled building this country but turn around in the same session vote themselves huge increases. Now that they have stole the money from the Social Security Insurance, we are told it no longer an insurance it is a benefit that is expires as we speak. But who was the first they bailed out of money problems. AIG where all the Senators, Congressman and Presidents retirement BENEFITS come from. The So Called Career Politicians that claim they have given so much to this country can not meet an attendance level that would keep a short order cook employed. Anytime The Senate is shown on TV look around at all the empty chairs and desk. Also see who has the worse criminal records for theft by deception by writing cold checks and no paying their Federal Income Tax. """WASHINGTON  HAS  TOO MANY UNEMPLOYABLE  LAWYERS  TO  LET  THIS  COUNTRY  SURVIVE.  THEY  NEVER  GIVE  UP ON TAKING  AND  FALSE  TRUTHS  TO  THE  US CITIZENS  IN  ANYWAY  THEY  CAN  GET  BY  WITH.  AND  OUR  SO  CALLED  MEDIA  ONLY  TELLS  US  WHAT  THEY  WANT  US  TO  HEAR . We The PEOPLE of The United States of America PAID for with OUR TAX dollars and blood of OUR CHILDREN, We deserve better than we are getting and it is time for a real change in Washington. Not just a change that last a month or two after the election.
