I have been listening to the cacophony of cowardly Republicans jumping all over Congressman Todd Akin of Missouri concerning his comments about rape and abortion a few days ago. I understand that what he said was ill-advised but he tried to answer a very tough question instead of dodging it as most politicians would do. He did manage to make a mess of it but has attempted to make amends in a very humble and honorable fashion. Akin has apologized profusely, explained what he actually meant, explained where he got the information he was basing his statement on, and has also acknowledged that he spoke on facts that he now knows were feasible but questionable. The man made a mistake in the way he stated his point and the entire Republican Party is throwing him to the wolves for it.

Comment by Bob Russell on August 23, 2012 at 8:42am Tim, the last plan I heard mentioned by republicrats in Missouri is that they are going to get one of the retired RINO's to run as a write-in and bury Akin with ads against him and for the RINO. Electing a RINO is as bad as McCaskill getting back in but the establishment really doesn't care. They are happy to be in the back seat. I am catching a lot of flack on some sites because people want him gone. I am coming to the conclusion that almost all conservatives are cowards or they aren't really conservatives afterall but are "moderates" who are afraid or unwilling to take a stand for anything.
Comment by Timothy Birdnow on August 22, 2012 at 7:28pm Agreed! This monstrous act of cowardice on the part of the GOP, and on the part of conservatives, for that matter, will not end well for the GOP. Running like scared rabbits is never an advisable policy.
Akin could have recovered if the GOP and our own people had the good sense to stand with him, but we threw him to the wolves. Now it is going to be nigh unto impossible to support him, and if he doesn't pull out then this is in the hands of the Almighty. Running a third party candidate or a write in is a recipe for disaster.
This was a shameful affair. And stupid.
