Our time honored and globally imitated goal is being summarily demonized. The American Dream is being removed from the American spirit. We have a President who has decided that the citizens of this nation no longer envision the path to the American Dream as it was in the past. We are being told that things like success, independence and ambition are no longer values we should cherish. Instead we are being told that “fairness”, a “fair share” and a “level playing field” have to be established in order to prosper. It’s a shame that our President never actually worked in the real private sector, otherwise he would have learned that life is not fair.
One of the things we all aspire to, becoming rich, is now politically incorrect unless we carry everyone else on our shoulders so they get their “fair share”, even though they didn’t take any of the risk. Even if you come up with a great idea and create wealth, prosperity and increased standards of living, that’s not enough. It has to be more,,,fair. By more fair Obama means equally redistributed. Regardless of your time, effort, money and determination if you succeed you must first be concerned with fairness rather than success. Now, obviously everyone who owns a business that I know wants their employees to do as well as possible while under their employment. This is just common sense. Each employee expects a fair wage for their labor, in return. Obviously these two things don’t always work perfectly in reality or conceptually, but in most cases they do.
The problem with Obama’s vision is, who determines fairness? Who is this unbiased, benevolent, arbiter of everything being fair? Will it be the government? Will it be Obama? Will it be someone approved by Congress or by recess appointment? Will it be the Pope? You can be assured it will create another “crisis” that this administration so cherishes. But before you can assign a new “Fairness Czar”, you need to define “fair”.
Fair: marked by impartiality and honesty: free from self-interest, prejudice, or favoritism
This is the Merriam-Webster dictionary definition of fair. Unfortunately this is not what Obama wants. His definition of fairness is redistribution of wealth. So the Fairness Czar will have to be more skilled at spreading the wealth than being fair. However, this will be done under the guise of fairness.
So what is fair? Well we know Obama is having nocturnal emissions (wet-dreams) over the “Buffett Tax”. This is his continuing melodrama about the mean, nasty, fat-cat, rich people paying more to help pay off the debt. Well, at least that’s what he says this is for, but he always qualifies his speech with the usual infrastructure, social program expansions and other
spending investments. The Buffett Tax is reported to add $47.6 billion in revenue over 10 years. Over 10 years! This barely creates a whopping $5 billion a year, if it lasts 10 years. In March we paid over $24.6 billion just in interest on our debt. The Buffett Tax generated revenue will pay for about 5 days a year of interest, it won’t touch a penny of debt. I can also guarantee you that there will be no legislation demanding that this money go strictly to paying down the deficit or debt. It will get lost in the quagmire of spending called Washington.
We all know this is the Obama class warfare agenda at its best. Actually it’s more about envy of the successful. It is no longer the American Dream to be wealthy or prosperous. It’s to become middle class. To redistribute from the “haves” to the “have not’s”. To somehow make everything fair, a fair share on an equal playing field. In other words, mediocrity over exceptionalism. The question I have is, has anybody ever written or read a book titled, “Get Mediocre Quick”? I doubt it. On the other hand, how many “Get Rich Quick” books have been written and read? I think you get my point. Everyone wants to be rich. You grow up hoping to be rich, not middle class. Now, there’s nothing wrong with being middle class, most Americans are in this class, but they all aspire for more, not less. Why do people take risks to start a new business? To stay at their same income level? Of course not. Much of it is a passion to do what you want in life, to realize your dream, the American Dream. As you succeed, you gain independence but also greater responsibility. You are no longer just thinking of yourself, you’re thinking of your employee’s. This is something Obama has never done. His perception of the rich is that someone was just sitting at home one day and all of a sudden a few million dollars just falls in their lap.
According to the class envy that Obama promotes, the rich didn’t, aren’t and won’t have to work for their money, it just happens. They just keep their money under their mattress at home and use it to buy yachts and Beluga caviar. It’s not fair, they don’t pay their fair share and they don’t play on a level playing field. He doesn’t understand that 85% of millionaires in America are first generation. They didn’t inherit their millions, they earned it. They worked late into the night, spent their own money and worried every minute of the day how to succeed. They are visionaries, trailblazers, entrepreneurs and dreamers. They invented mass production, the light bulb, the telephone, television and the Hula-Hoop. They expanded their business, they employed others to help them and they provide wages, benefits and security. They have achieved the American dream. More importantly, they allow those less fortunate to also achieve the American Dream. Their employees can now look to the future and buy a home, start a family, improve their standard of living and achieve their own version of the American Dream.
Obama demonizes the rich because they aren’t paying enough in taxes. Why? Because our government is out of control. It is burdened with Progressive ideologies over the past century that have failed over and over. Massive entitlements and social programs, that even the governments own oversight committees have shown that 22 percent of them–costing taxpayers a total of $123 billion annually–fail to show any positive impact on the populations they serve. That’s $1.2 trillion over 10 years, and that’s just the beginning. There are thousands of examples of waste, fraud, abuse and corruption in our government. Wouldn’t it make more sense to eliminate the hundreds of billions in waste than to keep taking more from the successful? Progressives don’t think this way. Regardless of government’s success or failure they believe we need more and more of it to “help the less fortunate”. This is the delusion of the Progressive American Dream.
The Progressives criticize the likes of Mitt Romney for his success because some of his investments failed or were restructured and sold off. This is what the free-market demands. Not every business can or will succeed. Actually most don’t. This is the risk the entrepreneur takes. This is why when you succeed you can and should benefit from your risk. Obama believes that those who aren’t willing to take the necessary chances should benefit equally as those that do. Mankind did not succeed to the point we are today with this mindset. This has never worked. Karl Marx tried this with his infamous ideology, “From each according to his ability, to each according to his needs”. Socialism, Marxism, Maoism and communism have and continue to fail. Capitalism is the only –ism that has created the level of wealth, prosperity and standard of living we have learned to enjoy.
Our goal in November must be to return our great Republic to the course that it was intended before the European Socialist and Progressive that Obama is, came into power. The American Dream must be promoted and allowed to continue unfettered with repeated government intrusion. The American Dream was not built on the shoulders of government. It was built on the blood, sweat and tears of the private sector willing to succeed, or fail. The American Dream must be returned to its rightful place in our society so every American, regardless of race, color or creed, can at least try to achieve it. When you embrace an entitlement society we see what happens. Independence breeds ambition and success. Dependence breeds apathy and failure.
Regardless of our candidate, Obama must be defeated. The House must be strengthened and the Senate retaken. This has been, and must continue to be, our goal. As the number of our candidates is finally decreasing it looks like Romney will be the last man standing. This is the time we must put aside our ideologies and unite the TEA Party and achieve our goal. Is Romney perfect? No. Nobody is. It will be our job to continue our movement and influence. Remember, Progressivism has been around for a long time. We will not correct its failure in one or two election cycles. This may take decades. This is our punishment for neglecting our primary duty as Americans, watching our government. We violated our Duty of watching our government and now we have to work overtime to fix it all.
Freedom doesn’t come easily. It’s not free. It’s up to us to continue the new resurgence we created in 2010. We have 6 months left to assure ourselves and our children of the American Dream. We need to stop our petty bickering about who is better than whoever. It’s time to roll up our sleeves and get to work. This election must be another statement to America that we want everyone to succeed and benefit from our freedom.
