THE ENGLISH DEFENSE LEAGUE...LEADING AMERICA'S FIGHT FOR FREEDOM

It is odd, how in times of danger, a gallant few step boldly forth and take up the gauntlet of liberty, and are so often are scorned for their efforts. It happened here in America in 1775 when a small group of colonists formed a line in the colony of Massachusetts and exchanged fire with the world's finest army. To some they were heroes, while other colonists regarded them as traitors to the crown. History, always the final arbiter on such matters, declared them heroes!

Today there is another such group on the other side of the Atlantic. Like the minutemen of our colonial days, these heroes are also fighting for the liberty of Americans...and of the English...and of the Swedes...and of the people in any other country where Islam has established itself and is endangering the liberties and beliefs of the people who have offered them sanctuary.


The English Defense League, or EDL as they have come to be known, have begun a broad movement and they are now being joined by others with common beliefs in other countries. The Dutch have their own Defense League, as well as the French, the Swiss, Belgium, and Germany. As the problem grows ever more acute, new Leagues will be forming around Europe. As the saying goes "In unity there is strength." This adage is being tested and proven still valid, as groups from various nations will converge on one site making for a sizable protest.

If there is one League who outshines all of the rest it would have to be be the EDL, as they were the fore-runners of the whole anti Sharia movement. If there is one single individual who carries the torch for the world it would have to be Geert Wilders, and in his defense multiple Leagues unite in a single massive protest. For anyone unfamiliar with Geert Wilders, he is the leader of a party in the Dutch parliament who had the courage to warn his nation, and the world, that we were in danger from the ever growing Muslim population in all of the civilized countries in the world. For this he was charged with "Inciting hatred" and threatened that if found guilty of this "Crime" his punishment could be two years in prison. His many defenders believe that the only crime that is has committed was telling the truth, and therein lies the problem.

The problem is that his fellow countrymen know the truth, but they do not want it spoken. Facts have a way of inspiring anger in Muslims, and many Europeans are afraid that they will embark on a murderous rampage. One other problem that Mister Wilders faces, in addition to the legal ones, is that the practitioners of the religion of peace have threatened to kill him.

I do not know of one single time in history that appeasement has been successful. He who lowers himself to appeasing his enemy is showing weakness and that quite naturally leads to more aggressive behavior. This tactic was tried with Hitler and it only served to buy him more time and to embolden him and his allies. After appeasement failed and Europe was conquered, it took World War ll to crush Nazi ambitions, while the whole thing might well have been stopped had they met him with force upon entering the Rhineland.

Thus far there is no equivalent to the EDL in the United States, and I don't believe that there will be. At the moment, they and the Tea Parties are making contact and I am assuming that the Tea Parties, rather than forging a new group or branching into two separate groups, will simply adopt some of the Leagues beliefs and tactics. After all they do have so much in common. The Tea Parties and the various Leagues have already concluded that they are not going to do the politically correct thing and remain quiet. To do so would only give a dangerous situation more time to grow even worse.

Both the Leagues and the Tea Parties have been accused of being racist organizations and yet both have members of diverse ethnic background. Both have been accused of being members of the far right when in reality they are upholding the conservative values that made the world a more peaceful and prosperous place than it has ever been. Neither group has aspirations of taking away the rights of anyone, they just want theirs left intact in the face of a worldwide increase in government control. For this, both groups face the wrath of the forces of political correctness.

Doing research on this controversial group has not been an easy task, as the large proportion of news relating to them has been slanted by the ultra liberal media of Europe. The one thing that I can use for a measuring stick is the "Extremist", "Radical", "Militant" attacks from our own liberal media on our Tea Parties. They relentlessly attack a group of people who spend their own money to cross the country and protest peacefully in the nation's capital. While there, they respect "Stay off the grass" signs and clean the area of their protest at day's end. Our liberal media, here in the States, is nothing short of disgusting, and yet they are not nearly as far to the left as their counterparts in Europe.

Actually the communist newspaper Pravda seems a more accurate source of information than are most of the publications of Europe. It is sad that England has fallen to such levels of distorting the truth, but I am thankful that I only have to sort through their lies and distortions. The people of the EDL must live with them on a daily basis. Truth, however, is there to be found with a little perseverance, and what I have found gives me yet more admiration of those who lead in the fight to preserve freedom for the whole world.

The think tank Civitas now reports that there are eighty-five different Sharia courts operating throughout England, and their brand of justice has nothing to do with the accepted standards of England. In a report they stated:


'The fact that so many sharia rulings in Britain relate to cases concerning divorce and custody of children is of particular concern, as women are not equal in sharia law, and sharia contains no specific commitment to the best interests of the child that is fundamental to family law in the UK


They are not alone in exposing the truth. The European Court Of Human Rights in 2003 in Strasbourg concluded that it was...


'difficult to declare one's respect for democracy and human rights while at the same time supporting a regime based on sharia, which clearly diverges from Convention values.'

Further adding to the spread of Sharia within the UK is the stated approval of it by none other than the Archbishop Of Canterbury Dr. Rowan Williams and Lord Phillips who has since then stepped down. Factor in the condition of Muslim "No go zones" where even the English police avoid and the picture becomes even clearer. England has a problem, and the problem is Islam.


Current events are none too encouraging for those who are concerned with the spreading problem of Sharia. England has now elected her first Muslim mayor....Not to be outdone, so has Canada. And then to add insult to injury comes the news that Mohamed has now become the most popular name for male babies in England.


I am uncertain if the problem is a hatred of freedom and the responsibility that goes with it, a blind obedience to a self destructive ideology, or a craven cowardice. The cause may vary from one individual to the next but something is driving the politically correct of many nations to embrace this totalitarian lifestyle known as Islam. The EDL, as the leaders in this struggle, must not only oppose the Muslim element that is determined to rule England, but they must also stand strong against the liberal elements within their own nation.


Most of the media and the ruling class, for whatever reason, are welcoming the multiculturalism that will destroy their own heritage, but the tide seems to be ever so slowly turning. A young Danish journalist, by name of Sigurd Ericson, who had heard nothing but criticisms of the EDL, just had to go and see for himself. In doing so he found a kinship with them, and after meeting much of the ethnically diversified membership, he announced in an article that there is nothing racist about them.


Prime Minister Angela Merkle of Germany, recently spoke to a young audience giving a brief background on how the numbers of Muslims had grown so large in Germany. She went on to say that the "Multiculturalism" that the politically correct element approve totally failed. At the end of her delivery she received a standing ovation for her boldness. This admission on her part has naturally added fuel to the question of what to do with so many Muslims who will not accept the German culture. They, as with other Muslims around the world, expect their ways to replace those of the countries they now occupy.


A German think tank reveals that thirty percent of the German people think that the Muslims have come there only to take advantage of their social programs. Further, sixty percent think that the Muslims need to be "restricted."


France is banning burqas, Switzerland is opposed to any new minarets, Italy refuses to grant Islam a legal church status. Little by little Europe's views of Islam are changing and it all dates back to a few Englishmen saying "Enough is Enough," and thus was born the English Defense League, but it has not been an easy road for them. They have been scorned, harassed,assaulted, arrested, their homes searched and still they go on, and for this the free world should be very grateful. I would hate to think what would have happened had they given up.


Speakers Corner, for those of you unfamiliar with the concept, is an area set aside for exactly that....Speaking. The subject matter can be anything and unless marred by profanity or violence, the speaker is generally regarded as harmless and is not disturbed by law enforcement unless of course, you are in the EDL.


A Rabbi from Los Angeles, running for the US Senate, flew to Europe and attended a protest with the EDL. His experience with them is an excellent barometer of the current politics in England. They were planning to speak at Speakers Corner until confronted by a large Muslim audience. The local police, supporting the Muslim crowd, basically herded the EDL and Rabbi Shifren a block away and allowed them to speak there, but not at the spot that symbolizes freedom to the English. So goes another assault on the freedom of speech.


In an interview with the Guardian the Rabbi was quoted as saying "The Jewish community is paralyzed with fear, exactly what most radical Muslim agitators want. The people of England are in the forefront on this war - and it is a war. One of the purposes of this visit is to put the kibosh on the notion in the Jewish community that they cannot co-operate with the EDL, which is rubbish.



I have no doubt that those men of the Alamo would stand to honor the determination of the members of the English Defense League. It matters not if you are firing from behind an adobe wall or marching through the streets of Europe, if you are a patriot it always seems that in the beginning there are never enough of your fellow patriots standing beside you. There is one thing that can be said about the defenders of the Alamo, and these modern day defenders of western culture...though short in numbers, there is certainly no shortage of courage.
