The Central Park Five
De Blasio said that the “40 million settlement offered to the Central Park Five was necessary to correct the ‘injustice’ done to the five men who were wrongly convicted of raping a woman jogger.”
For an anti-capitalist man who hates income inequality he seems to place a lot of value on money. The Five wasted years of their lives in jail and De Blasio wants to buy them off. There is no restitution for injustices. No matter what De Blasio pays them they will never get their lives back. De Blasio feel that he can make it good with a few million?
You can’t make bad good. You just have to suck it up and live with the bad. You have to accept your jail
sentence and live with it. I did a measly two years in jail. I liked it. I didn’t feel I should be paid for it.
Maybe I was guilty; maybe I wasn’t. I didn’t care. I just don’t want some giant, simplistic, progressive
-minded politician paying me off for what I did wrong in order that he can get votes for his false
compassion. And if I didn’t do something wrong, I did other things illegally that never came to the
And where does that few million for the Five come from? Should I have to pay from my taxes for a misjudgment that a judge made under difficult circumstances?
The Five deserve nothing. Nothing comes from nothing. Their responsibility is to rediscover their lives not to hold up innocent people for recompense.
If De Blassio feels that the moral issue is quite clear why doesn’t he contribute his whole income to the Central Park Five? Why doesn’t he give something more significant than his whining?
The dimwit has decided that “An injustice was done. And we have a moral obligation to respond to that injustice.”
Not “we” Lone Ranger, “you.” I wasn’t there. I had nothing to do with it. I do not want to pay tax money for governmental mistakes. De Blasio, you are part of the government. You pay.
And don’t make an excuse like, "It's not my place to try to go into every detail of a case or talk to everyone involved.” You are condoning a substitute payment by people who were not involved.
It is your responsibility.
