In today’s Morning Bell, a daily newsletter from The Heritage Foundation, they wrote in their headline piece, “For the first time in four years, the U.S. Congress is engaged in a full-throated budget debate. Take a moment for at least a quiet “Hurrah!” The federal government has at last embarked on its most basic responsibility. This was the price exacted by House Republicans from Senate Democrats for raising the debt ceiling in February. So far, so good.”
What? “So far so good?” “This was the price…”? What price?! What price did Democrats pay? The House of Representatives must approve spending and budgets. So, with a strong Republican majority the Republican leadership traded an extension of the debt limit – which will certainly be met with additional Democrat spending – for “…a full-throated budget debate.”
Tell me this is a joke…pleeeeeze.
They gave up the debt ceiling to enable Democrat spending policy and make it real, for a “debate”? They traded our money and our future for a discussion? The constitution mandates that discussion! It must take place. If it does not, Republicans must use all their power, every legal enjoinder to insure that it does take place. But this is the “amnesty” mentality: reward criminal or incompetent action by giving the perpetrators what they want without penalty.
They should not give up our money, give up our prerogatives as citizens and further weaken our position as a nation with this sort of servile, slavish and cowardly action. In doing so they show themselves to be absolutely useless as a political force. This action is as disgusting as it is stupid.
