I am a Vietnam Combat Veteran and after two tours in Vietnam my knowledge of warfare was pretty much limited to how to stay alive in hostile territory and how to keep my men alive and that my friends was a lot to know.

When the American public turned against the Vietnam War ( and especially against those who served ) we pulled out; job unfinished. And the inevitable purges and genocide ensued. All those lives on both sides of the issue were lost for naught because Americans in general and more specifically American politicians never read, much less understood, The Art of War.

When we went into Afghanistan I understood the need but questioned the wisdom. History has told us and the whole world that no one has ever ruled Afghanistan and  no one ever will.

Going into Iraq was the second most stupid mistake this country has ever made in modern times; electing Obama being the first most stupid thing. The reasons why may be the subject of an article at some future date.

When I was a kid, very often the last words spoken before the first punch was thrown in a fist fight was: “I don’t want to fight you.”....SMACK! First punch thrown. And that my friends is the truth about war.

The truth about war is that once one party feels sufficiently offended such that violence is required, violence will commence ... and soon. Once the fight begins, typically there will be one “winner” and one “loser” and very seldom do the combatants ever “break it up and shake hands and be friends”. Somehow it just does not work that way.

Although we never teach it in school any more, we Americans cherish our Declaration of Independence as one of this nation’s “birthing documents”. But just what is the true nature of our Declaration of Independence? To us, it is a statement of our need to be a free people. To the British Crown, it is a declaration of WAR. And even today, after two world wars, if you live in England you will hear the occasional testy remark about “the colonies”. Some old wounds never heal.

And that is the reality about America and the Muslim world.

THEY declared WAR on US!

The fundamentalist Muslims have declared America “The Great Satan” and have declared “Jihad” or “Holy War” against us.

In the final analysis, America has but two choices: Either bend over in submission to the demands of Muslim fundamentalists and Sharia Law or eradicate it from the face of the earth once and for all.

Many are the times that I have argued for “the good Muslims” because in my heart I truly want to believe that they exist; those Muslims who simply want to adhere to their beliefs without interfering with the rights of others to do the same.

But at the same time, I am reminded of my experiences in Iran where I was working when the Shah was thrown under the bus by then President Jimmy Carter. As the Shah’s government withered away under the onslaught of the Muslim fundamentalists under the Ayatollah Khomeini some of the members of the Iranian Imperial Air Force (IIAF) that I had called “friend” turned against me simply because I am not Muslim and I am reasonably sure they would have gladly taken my life because of it given the chance.

America is at war with the Muslim world whether we want to admit it or not.

Islam demands that all "non-believers" be put to death.

There can be no reconciliation between our two worlds.

A simple cold hard fact that we must come to grips with and damned soon at that. What the Obama regime is doing at this juncture is the equivalence of “I don’t want to fight with you.”... and SMACK!  That first punch will be thrown and it will be a “hay maker”.  Nine-Eleven (9/11) was but a “single-digit-wave” by the Muslim world to America...the fist is not long in coming.

And the ugly reality of any war is that there will be collateral damage; innocents will be hurt and even killed. And it is that one truth about war that haunts us who have served; more so than anything else we may have experienced. It is the one aspect of war that we would change if we could. But that ugly reality will never deter us from the mission at hand.

It is a mission that America must embrace or this nation is lost forever.

As a government, you are correct Paul.

As an old war horse of a Vietnam Vet, my skills are still quite sharp.

The Muslim haymakers coming are all 'courtesy' of Obama-mama, so let's wring our hands since we forgot how to throw a PUNCH.

Doc, I wholeheartedly agree with most of what you've written, but I do take issue with you on two points.

" . . just what is the true nature of our Declaration of Independence? To us, it is a statement of our need to be a free people. To the British Crown, it is a declaration of WAR."

Two hundred and thirty eight years ago, that last sentence was true - but we've moved on since then. I'm now 67, and I've yet to meet ANY Englishman or woman who doesn't see that Declaration as rational, practical, and totally justified.

This may not have occurred to you, but we now find our country in the same position vis a vis the European Union as your country was with King George. Your rallying cry was "No taxation without representation!" Ours is the same, as we find the EU imposing taxes, laws and ever-increasing legislation on us, yet we have no say in the appointment of those who impose those laws, as NONE of them are subject to any democratic vote. According to the EU bosses, at least 75% of our laws are now imposed by the EU - our so-called government just enforces them.

It should come as little surprise, then, that so many of us not only see your Declaration and Constitution as a shining example of the spirit of liberty, but we also want to emulate it with our own Declaration of Independence from the dictatorship of the EU, and revert to our own written Constitution, enshrined in documents kept in the Victoria Tower in London - some of which date back to the 14th century.

This applies most especially to the ever-increasing number of people like myself, who have joined and vote for the the UK Independence Party, whose prime aim is to take back the sovereignty which was sold for 30 pieces of EU silver by our traitorous politicians.

"And even today, after two world wars, if you live in England you will hear the occasional testy remark about “the colonies”. Some old wounds never heal."

Doc, apart from my time in the RAF, I've lived all my life in England, Scotland and Wales, and I can say, hand on heart, I have NEVER heard a "testy remark about the colonies" - though, I grant you, it might be a different matter if I hung out with the kind of ill-mannered halfwits who think Piers Morgan knows what he's talking about.

A final point you might wish to ponder. Some years back I visited the Southern States with a group of friends, and we spent a little while pottering around small-town America, as we weren't interested in the 'tourist traps' - we just wanted to meet ordinary Americans. We toured through Tennessee, Mississippi, Alabama and Georgia - and everywhere we went, we found ourselves on the same wavelength as the people we met, who made us feel so welcome.

After about a week, we were talking amongst ourselves one day, and one guy said:

"D'you know, even though we flew about 4,000 miles to get here, I don't feel as though we're 'abroad'. It's more like we're in a different part of home, where people just talk with a different accent - but it still feels like home."

We all felt the same - and, when I said that, even though I was born and grew up in London, it now feels like a foreign country to me, and I avoid it like the plague, the others knew just what I meant.

And yet Tennessee felt like home to me, then - as it still does - and I still miss the country, and the people.

Make of that what you will, Doc.

With best regards,

Jack Enright
