Wall street journal article on Ezekiel Emanuel.pdf
The attached file is a copy of a Wall Street Journal article that a coworker passed on to me. It details Ezekiel Emanuel's publicized statements on providing healthcare to different segments. Much of this information has been listed here prior, however this file is available for distribution.
Though these views can be rationalized, they lead mankind down a path once before traveled, in those instances by Nazi Germany and Stalinist Russia. To quote the article, at the bottom of the second column, "Substantively, it suggests services that promote the continuation of the polity - those that ensure healthy future generations, ensure development of practical reasoning skills, and ensure full and active participation by citizens in public deliberations - are to be socially guaranteed as basic. Covering services provided to individuals who are irreversibly prevented from being of becoming participating citizens are not basic and should not be guaranteed" (taken from the Hastings Center Report, Nov/Dec 1996) Such statements at first relegate the individual to less than a full citizen by nature of their mental or physical capacitiy, Over time, these individuals, in the Nazi and Communist eye, are looked at as sub human. Once this leap is made, then it is a small step to reason that these "beings" can serve a purpose, that being platforms for experimentation. Or it could take the form of "well, food is a scarce resource, so it should only be guaranteed for those who contribute to society and the public discourse". Sound harsh, or as something that could not happen? It has in the past, in both Nazi Germany and in Stalinist Russia (there are many more regimes that this has occurred, these are just the two most glaring examples)
Eddie Rickenbacker, in his autobiography detailed a visit to Russia during WWII. During his visit, he was put up at a Russian Dacha. One day a woman carrying a sick child showed up at the door begging for food. She explained, via an interpreter that she recieved no ration from the government as she had to stay home to care for her child, and therefore could not contribute to the war effort. As such, she was not entitled to a food ration.
The examples of abuse in Nazi Germany are too many to list, and I encourage the reader to seek out a copy of the book "Auschwitz: A Doctor's Eyewitness Account" by Miklos, Dr. Nyiszli. A word of warning, it is accurate and gruesome in it's descriptions, however a better view at the pure evil that comes from thinking like Dr Emanuel, I cannot think of.
These things CAN happen here. This and similar bills must be defeated. Each and every bill that this administration and congress puts forth must be analyzed not for what they say it is, but for the potential the actual bill represents. These people are not the usual 'politician' we are used to, full of promises and short of results. These are out right liars, who will use whatever words necessary, whatever actions necessary to advance their cause. We are all operating under the assumption that there will be another election in 2010 that holds the potential to stop the lunacy. I pray that we are correct in our assumption. We have a little over one year to maintain our momentum. Our guard must be kept up, reguardless of what we hear, until such time that the ilk that resides in washington has been defeated and replaced with those devoted to the republic and the constitution.
