“Obama Alienates Yet Another Nation: Turkey”
by Donna Garner
A big conflict is getting ready to explode in Turkey.
Reading between the lines, this is the way it looks to me: Fethullah Gulen, an Islamic imam, lives in Pennsylvania even though he has a lucrative international network. He and his network have thrived in the United States by “buying off” elected officials, politicians, and the news media who have pushed the Gulen charter schools – paid for with our tax dollars. Please read - 12.23.13 – “How Islamic-Turkish-Gulen-Charter Schools Dupe the System” – by Donna Garner -- http://www.educationviews.org/turkish-gulen-charters-dupe-system
Gulen runs the largest charter school network in the U. S., and Texas has more Gulen charters than any other state (a.k.a., Harmony Charters).
Undoubtedly, these Gulen advocates go all the way to the White House and to the U. S. State Department. Now we have our U. S. Ambassador to Turkey (Francis J. Ricciardone) taking Gulen’s side against Turkey’s Prime Minister Erdogan.
Gulen and Erdogan were once “partners in crime” (3.26.11 – “Gulen Is Indeed a Dangerous Man” – by Donna Garner – EducationNews.org -- http://www.educationnews.org/political/152367.html ) but have recently had a big falling out, and on 12.23.13 Erdogan had the sons of Gulenist cabinet ministers arrested (probably never to be heard from again).
Our U. S. Ambassador Ricciardone has been accused of plotting with Gulen against Erdogan; and this has put the United States on the “outs” with Erdogan.
Why should America care what happens in Turkey? The United States has two key permanent bases in the Middle East -- Incirlik, Turkey, and Riyad, Saudi Arabia. These are strategic installations. For reference, Incirlik was the home base for all U-2 flights over Russia before satellites. Riyad was the staging point for both Iraqi Wars. Both bases are essential in the Middle East: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Incirlik_Air_Base and http://www.educationnews.org/political/152367.html#sthash.AvOyOANV....
The United States used to have a good relationship with Turkey until the Gulenists working with Erdogan turned Turkey into an Islamic nation. Remember that pro-Islamic/anti-Israel Obama was elected President on Nov. 8, 2008. It was in May and June of 2010 when the Gaza Strip flotilla fired on the Israelis; Turkey helped Iran to create a plan to avoid sanctions; and the Turkish prime minister said he regarded Iran’s President Ahmadinejad as a friend.
The ironic thing is that Gulen and Erdogan both worked together to turn Turkey into an Islamic nation; but because Erdogan now wants to become the President of Turkey so that he can control everything, he is trying to silence the Gulenists because they support the current President of Turkey (Abdullah Gul) who is a follower of Fethullah Gulen.
What we have in Turkey is yet another pro-Islam nation destabilizing the Middle East even more. Because Obama and his policies have weakened America’s position in the entire world, he has put Israel in greater peril from its neighbors. Erdogan is no longer afraid of America’s strength and does not care whether he alienates Turkey from the United States. Now our military presence in Incirlik (Turkey) and Riyad (Saudi Arabia) are in jeopardy.
Meanwhile, Fethullah Gulen continues to push Islam in the United States through his Gulen charter schools while “America sleeps.”
3 Turkish Cabinet ministers resign over probe
By SUZAN FRASER
ANKARA, TURKEY – AP — Three Cabinet ministers resigned in Turkey on Wednesday, days after their sons were taken into custody in a sweeping corruption and bribery scandal that has targeted Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan's allies in one of the worst political crises of his more than 10 years in power.
Economy Minister Zafer Caglayan and Interior Minister Muammer Guler announced their resignations in statements carried by the state-run Anadolu Agency. Environment and Urban Planning Minister Erdogan Bayraktar gave his resignation from both the Cabinet and Parliament in a live interview with the private NTV television during which he also urged the prime minister to step down.
All three ministers denied any wrongdoing.
Caglayan's and Guler's sons, along with the chief executive officer of the state-run bank Halkbank, are among 24 people who have been arrested on bribery charges. Bayraktar's son, Abdullah Oguz, was detained as part of the probe but later released from custody.
Media reports said police have seized $4.5 million in cash that was stashed in shoe boxes in the home of the bank's CEO, while more than 1 million dollars in cash was reportedly discovered in the home of Guler's son, Baris.
Erdogan has denounced the corruption probe as a plot by foreign and Turkish forces to thwart his country's growing prosperity and discredit his government ahead of local elections in March. Critics accuse Erdogan of becoming increasingly authoritarian, but his government has won three successive elections since 2002 on the strength of the
The probe is one of the biggest political challenges Erdogan has faced since his Islamic-based party narrowly escaped closure in 2008 for allegedly undermining Turkey's secular Constitution. This summer, the government also weathered a wave of anti-government protests sparked by a development project that would have engulfed a beloved Istanbul park.
…Turkish commentators believe the probe is fallout from an increasingly public feud and power struggle between Erdogan's government and an influential U.S.-based Muslim cleric, Fethullah Gulen, whose followers are believed to have a strong foothold within Turkey's police and judiciary. The two men, without naming each other, have been engaged in a war of words since the corruption probe was launched on Dec. 17.
Gulen has denied being involved in the investigation. He left Turkey in 1999 after being accused by the then-secular government of plotting to establish an Islamic state. He was later cleared of that charge and allowed to return to his homeland, but he never has and is living in Pennsylvania.
…In a veiled attack on Gulen, Erdogan said: "They speak of the Quran and of Allah but are remembered for ... plots."
Last week, Erdogan threatened to expel ambassadors from Turkey after four pro-government newspapers accused U.S. Ambassador Francis J. Ricciardone of scheming against the government.
One newspaper, Sabah, pressed ahead with that allegation Wednesday by claiming that a U.S. diplomat had prodded a business group to join an "anti-government lobby."
That prompted a new rebuttal from the U.S. Embassy.
"Allegations targeting U.S. Embassy employees published in some media organs do not reflect the truth," the embassy said in a statement in Turkish. "To repeat once again: No one should endanger Turkey-U.S. relations through such intentional slander."
…The government already has dismissed dozens of police officials either involved in the investigation or thought to be linked to Gulen. Journalists have been barred from entering police buildings, fuelling accusations from critics that the government is trying to impede the probe.
