My Black Dad and Chick-fil-A
I jump on every opportunity to respectfully challenge my 84 year old black dad's loyalty to Obama. Dad has been a Christian pastor over 50 years. He lives in Maryland and I live in Florida. I called Dad to ask if he participated in Chick-fil-A Appreciation Day. He said, no he had not heard about it. Then, he added, “All I know is Chick-fil-A discriminates against gays.”
Folks, I was outraged. Struggling to keep my composure, I passionately said, “Dad, that is a lie! You have got to stop getting your news from the mainstream media!”
I went on to explain to my dad what the protest and appreciation day were really about. Dad was shocked. He does not support same-sex marriage. Dad was pretty grossed out when I told him that in retaliation homosexuals have planned a “kiss-in” at Chick-fil-A restaurants.
I also took the occasion to inform Dad that black pastors across America have organized to protest Obama's support of same-sex marriage. Again, Dad knew nothing about the black pastor's protest.
At my local Chick-fil-A restaurant, Mavis and I were the only blacks there in support of the protest, amongst hundreds of white Christians and Tea Party patriots.
So what is going on? Why is the truth not getting to a majority of black Americans? I fault a majority of black media outlets and the mainstream media.
For the most part, conservative talk radio is a white thing. Even black conservative radio talk show hosts have a mostly white following.
How do we get the truth to black America? Since I am writing about this problem, one might assume I have a solution. Well, I do not, and it frustrates me.
My conversation with Dad was yesterday. He called me at 9AM this morning. “Why haven't I heard about what Christians were doing in support of Chick-fil-A?” I told Bad the reason is because the mainstream media, where he gets his news, is in the pocket of the socialists/progressives who embrace same-sex marriage. The mainstream media (CNN, ABC, CBS, and NBC) gave the phenomenon minimal coverage.
Dad was surprised to learn that all who oppose same-sex marriage are branded bigots and haters by his beloved Democratic Party and the mainstream media. Dad said he does not hate or judge anyone. However, the Bible says homosexuality is wrong. He must stand on the Word of God.
Patriots, my excitement was overwhelming. For years I have been waiting for the correct moment and approach to “respectfully” tell Dad that his blind loyalty to Obama and the Democrats contradicts everything he has stood for and taught me. The moment was miraculously here. Dad was on the phone, asking questions and listening.
My mind was racing, “OK! OK! How can I give him a history lesson and Conservatism vs Liberalism 101 in as few words as possible?” I thought, “Calm down and take it slow.”We talked for an hour.
Dad did not know that not only did Obama say that he supports same-sex marriage, but he vowed to be an advocate of the gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender communities. Dad told me to send him the link, which is pretty amazing, considering I have not been successful getting dad to check his email.
Dad was unaware that the Democratic Party is considering making same-sex marriage a part of its platform.
I explained to Dad that the mainstream media spins the truth and, in many cases, lies to support its socialist/progressive anti-Christian anti-God agenda.
For example: Dad heard from his media sources that Republicans, Christians, and Conservatives are trying to ban contraception for women. Yes, Dad was familiar with the reported “War on Women”.
I told Dad no one is trying to stop women from obtaining birth control. Contraception is cheap – available at Walmart for five bucks. I explained that under Obama Care, Christian institutions and Christians will be forced to fund contraception and abortion services against their will and their faith. Again, Dad was shocked. Dad said he does not want to fund such services.
My 84 year old dad joined the Democratic Party in his youth, believing it to be for the hard working little guy. I informed Dad that that Democratic Party no longer exists. In short, spoiled-brat old hippies run the Democratic Party today.
A majority of the Democratic Party leadership are far-left liberals who hate America and believe that man can fix every problem. God is an imaginary being clung to by ignorant, bitter, and racist middle Americans. These Democrats believe they are intellectually superior – and thus far better-qualified to manage our lives. This is why the Democratic Party seeks ever-expanding governmental controls over our behavior. Outrageously, death panels in Obama Care even give government power to decide who lives and who dies.
In response to the socialists/progressives' disbelief in God, Dad, a preacher over 50 years, said, “Your house had a builder. I did not see him. Nor do I know him. But I know he exists. Man also had a builder.”
Dad ended our conservation with “I'm going to Chick-fil-A today to spend some money.”

I am so excited for you and your Dad, Lloyd! What a blessing!! My dad is a total moonbat, but I pray he will see the light. He blames all our country's problems on "those d@mn republicans".. I hope for a similar conversation with my dad someday!!! God bless you, and keep up the good fight!

It's a sad reality that many people who watch the liberal media (especially No Body's Channel - NBC & CNN) only know what they want them to know. Just as with obama changing his views on gay marriage - he made multiple comments prior to getting elected that he believed marriage was between one man and one woman and recently flip-flopped stating him and Michelle's views have evolved that he accepts gay marriage - and more recently that he wants to overturn the DOMA act and make gay marriage legal. The damage that he's done the past 3 years is troubling and yet to think he could even possible win another 4 years is unacceptable for a nation as great as the USA. It's reported that more than 100 million people have been waived from obamacare for "political reasons" and the remainder of us will have to pick up the tab/taxes for the unlimited abortion on demand through all 9 months of pregnancy & yet limited health care otherwise - with restrictions on heart surgeries and medical equipment. May we share the truth as Marcus has done and elect a president who upholds that we are one nation under God this November.

Congratulations on getting through to your Dad. I believe they are trying to do what they think is right and standing up for what is presented to them as the little guy that is being picked on. Hard to see through all the lies when we have been condition to believe in the good of Americans and loyalty to each other as a country only to find out the left holds a dager ready to be put in our backs.
I have been trying to get through to my family as well and each time I think I am making a dent, the blinders come on again. I tell them to look for themselves, and not to believe the main steam media and still they quote something they heard from one of them. At times I think it is just too much for some to handle (if only they knew everything we have come to learn these past three years), then it is scary for others and some just don't want to deal with controversy or issues like this and prefer to stay in the safety and comfort of denial.
I fear that with so little time left until November have we reached enough people? I pray that Wednesday's fabulous showing will be an indication of what we can expect in November. But then what? I fear that the left will give whoever get's elected hell, each and every day as well as expect immediate results. I sure hope if it is Romney or who ever it might be, they understand and are prepared for this and to deal with it. It will take gritt, tenacity and tough love to get through the next four years.

It's not just the Blacks who don't get it. I am just about as white as one can be as is my daughter. When I spoke to her about supporting Chick-fil-A she went into a tirade about how evil they were in their hatred of the LBGT community. When I, for once calmly, explained the true facts to her and how she must start questioning and researching the facts for herself she replied that she was not aware of the true facts and would try to be less judgemental in the future. As long as the LSM spews inaccuracies and lies how can we expect the innocent to learn the true facts?

Again one of your stories have brought tears to my eyes in happiness. Lloyd Marcus, you are a great man but an apple doesn't fall far from the tree, so your father must also be a fine man. I too have exchanged emails with a christian black man and have never met him or his wife to this day but after 5 days of exchanging our views, he surprised me and said that I was right! That he started calling on friends and telling them about all he learned. I was very surprised that he wasn't aware of the great Black Leaders that served in Congress before Wilson and I told him about many facts of history that even college he had never been told. We are winning. Black conservatives are waking up and realizing that they have been lied to and led like slaves by the Democratic Party. I encourage all to see the movie just out "Run away Slave", it will wake many up.

@Barry Gabrielson, I respectfully and vehemently disagree with you, Sir. Too many of all economic and educational backgrounds have seen the light and come in from the cold. Star Parker and Anita Moncrief come to mind as do Brandon Darby and David Horowitz. All were leftists right down the line and all had their illusions shattered and woke up to reality. The talk shows are full of non-famous callers who voted Obama and now regret it.
To write off a whole sub-class saying they can't see beyond the handouts and/or the hatred is to fall right in line with the left! I'll not deny that some of the people we're talking about are damaged - they've had psychological warfare used on them as surely as if they had been in a concentration camp. Considering the noisy and dangerous hellholes they've been herded into I wouldn't be surprised to find a significant incidence of PTSD.
BUT... none of that makes them stupid! Uneducated, hopeless, perhaps, maybe even dangerous but that is the culture they've been shackled with by the left for generations. There are plenty of people in the ghettos who pray to God daily for answers and work hard to improve their lot and their neighborhood. Those are the points of hope we need to be reaching out to. They need our help because they are fighting an uphill battle.
And yet, you would write them off for what they are today never considering what they could be tomorrow given a friendly hand and a little guidance. I ask you, Sir, where is your humanity?! Would you also have churches give up their missionary programs? In many ways it is the same thing!
