Must STOP the "Food Safety Modernization Act" bill SB 510/HR 2749 from bing passed! A very DANGEROUS piece of Legislation

"Food Safety Modernization Act" sounds so wonderful and safe--Government looking out for all their sheeple, making sure everything OK for US. Make no question about it, it is a very DANGEROUS bill, one of the more damaging bills to our Liberties and Freedoms as Americans. There are many good places to study up on the bill and find out the truth behind it and what it really is all about, what we will lose and the gains/power the few will win. I recommend everyone to do some research and then speak out loudly and SOON! Congress is going to try and RAM this through asap, like healthcare, before WE know what happened (this is happening all too often anymore!). Here are some of the pieces of note/concern: Huge amounts of power granted to the Secretary of Agriculture, FDA, Homeland Security and Dept. of Health and Human Services (more and more BIG government). Many terms are "undefined" and/or "to be determined 'reasonable' by the assessments of the Secretary". Estimate taxpayer costs of $800 billion in 2010 alone. Gives the Gov't the authority to prohibit or restrict the movement of food--including the use of National Guard/Federal Agents to impose Martial law to quarantine an area if it deems necessary. Policies that will cripple small farms/ranchers, co-ops, farm stands and even backyard gardeners, despite adding the "Tester Amendment" by imposing crushing standards and fees and unfair bureaucratic regulations. This will lead to monopolized large corporate owned food production units that have a history of cutting corners to maximize corporate profits. Monsanto Corporation, along with George Soros (who has his fingers in so many big pies), Goldman Sachs and many others stand to make ungodly amounts of $ with such monopolies of the food system--not to mention control and power. It will hurt/cripple the Organic farmers with overlapping regulations etc. The bill really doesn't address the root causes of US food safety problems and will more than likely provide fewer inspections and ultimately less overall food safety. (On another subject there is also the nightmare spiderweb of problems linked to genetically altered foods controlled by Monsanto & others). These things noted are just the tip of the iceberg within this bill, and you need to check it out/research it, then tell all your friends (asap) & spread the word and call your legislators. This is still America--government of the people, by the people, for the people! Thomas Jefferson said: "If people let the government decide what foods they eat and what medicines they take, their bodies will soon be in as sorry a state as are the souls of those who live under tyranny".

Epps on November 30, 2010 at 11:44pm: Nicole, you are a very wise and informed American who understands what this is all about and is paying attention to what is going on within our Nation and Worldwide, Yes, it is true the Lame Duck Socialist-Pan Leninist New World Leftists have their agenda and are trying to shove it down our throats relentlessly (especially since they realize the majority of REAL Americans have AWAKENED and WE have our eyes KEENLY on ALL their voting records and will not "go back to sleep", and that WE will REMOVE THEM FROM OFFICE if they continue to follow this DISASTROUS path of thinking (Republican or Democrat, WE saw who voted for this and didn't, sorry for your luck, BUMMER to be a Republican who jumped ship) , the vast majority of Americans who have a pulse and are paying attention understand that these actions will not be tolerated.. NOT a time for Politics as usual. Believe it or not, we're still watching VERY CLOSELY and will continue to do so---NO MORE Politics as usual! And our numbers are GROWING daily!

Comment by Jerry James on November 30, 2010 at 11:26pm: It amazes me how they like to name these poisoned pieces of legislation with names that make them sound so innocent and helpful to American families.

Who can argue with safe food for our children? This bill is touted as a way to prevent sickness and death from contaminated food, but in actuality does nothing to address the root of the problem, which is the big factory animal farm operations.

I for one, am not comfortable with the idea that any food that I choose to grow in my back yard would be under the authority of the Department of Homeland Security. We've all seen how things have gone with the TSA, which is also under the DHS. Is the Federal Government going to come and raid my house if I grow tomatoes and squash in the back yard? Am I going to be imprisoned if I save genetically unmodified seeds from year-to-year gardens? Sounds silly, I know, but a lot of people would have laughed at you just a year or two ago if you had told them that they would have to be radiated or groped before they could get on an airplane.

The next step is to try and get this bill killed in committee when it goes back for reconciliation in the House version of the bill, which has already passed. It looks as though the lame duck session is going to become one final push for the Democrats in power to shove as much sick and oppressive legislation down our throats as they can. It should be noted that 15 Republicans also voted in favor of this horrible bill. Here's the list:
