Three elementary school teachers in South Central Los Angeles have been put on leave for picking the wrong African Americans to celebrate black history. Just as Hayek predicts in the
Road to Serfdom, once power is concentrated in government hands, the result is nepotism and arbitrary abuses of authority. In this case, we have the makings of
many more witch hunts.
Regardless of why three teachers chose to have their classes make posters of Dennis Rodman, Ru Paul, and O.J. Simpson, their dismissal should send shudders down the spines of all patriotic Americans. If those same teachers had chosen to criticize Rodman, Ru Paul, and O.J. Simpson, they would have surely risked being called racists. Not so long ago, it was considered racist to say that O.J. had committed murder and should be punished. How can it be racist to pronounce the man a murderer and also racist to hold up his athletic accomplishments? Remember: he was found innocent in this criminal trial.
Ru Paul is a cross dressing entertainer, and the LA Unified School District is passionately committed to the rights of gays, lesbians, bisexuals, and transgendered people. Thus, holding Ru Paul up as an example for Black History Month cannot be wrong, either. As to the third, Dr. Drew Pinsky, who treated Dennis Rodman (according to Wikipedia), believes he has Asperger's syndrome. Thus, Rodman is an example of someone with a disability triumphing over the odds. His erratic behavior is partly explained by the diagnosis.
Another teacher chose Martin Luther King, Jr., who was a notorious womanizer in addition to his phenomenal work on civil rights. Given that our President cannot even fill his cabinet with citizens who pay their taxes, it seems unfair to expect elementary school teachers to choose celebrities without any stains on their reputations. If there were four, there are more. Who else was chosen for the black history celebration? What other teachers put forward flawed mortals without being fired? Rumor here in LA is that Michael Jackson was also held up in that same celebration, but the teacher who put him forward was not disciplined in any way. Considering Jackson's long history of child abuse accusations, it would only be fair to add that teacher to the witch list. Once one goes down this road, it's hard to know where to stop.
LA Unified has tarnished the reputations of three teachers and is now threatening their careers. This is the time for all patriots to stand up against witch hunts. If you believe that no citizen of our great land should be fired for trivial errors of diplomacy in the work place, please call the office of the LA Unified Superintendent of Schools. Can you imagine how great it would be if the head of LA schools couldn't get any calls out for the next week because he was flooded with Tea Party Patriots who won't let this injustice stand? Please also write to Fox Network and your friends to stand against this monstrous precedent.
The Superintendent of Schools in LA County is Ray Cortines, and his number is 213-241-7000. Let him learn a lesson about messing with Freedom!
If you also feel like it, call the principal of Wadsworth elementary at (323) 232-5234. Demand that the teachers in question be given due process.
