Clue No. 1: It didn't start as a celebration of butterflies, recycling, eating locally or solar energy.

Clue No. 2: It was launched on the 100th birthday of the father of 20th century totalitarianism -- a man whose followers have killed tens of millions of innocent people.

Comment by Grace Kirby on April 23, 2012 at 7:47am: Went shopping on Earth Day at the Marine base in San Diego. The saleslady offered me a 'free' recycleabel bag in honor of the day. I asked her if she knew the history of earth day and she said no. She was shocked to learn that April 22 is Lenin's birthday and was intentionally chosen to "promote" conservation (another tool of socialists/communists to control us).

After all, even though Tolkien's books were novels of fantasy, the various pieces did still fit together and function together as if they were parts of one and the same Universe. Not so Goofyville.

"Mordor on the Potomac" seems a most fitting description for D.C. as it appears to share many similar attributes with the fictional center of evil of Tolkiens books.
