GM Recalls Nearly 500,000 Chevy Cruzes for...Engine Fires

Note: This first appeared in Breitbart.com's Big Government.

Oops.

Concerns that Chevrolet Cruzes could catch fire have caused General Motors (GM) to recall more than 475,000 of the popular compact sedans, the automaker said Friday...

All (Cruze) cars manufactured from September 2010 to May of this year are subject to the recall.

Already getting Chevy Volt flashbacks?  Of course you are.

In January, GM “called backevery single Volt ever sold in the U.S., to fix the (fire problem on the) allegedly already “fixed” battery….

It’s important for a company to create a branding identity--something all its products possess as an underlying, unifying theme.

GM has successfully identified and implemented theirs: combustibility.

And this is not the first Cruze recall.

First, 2,100 Cruzes were recalled when steering wheels started spontaneously falling off.

But that was just the tip of the Titanic.

Government Motors is now forced to recall ALL 154,112 2011 Cruzes - for multiple problems. There was, again, the steering. And an automatic transmission with a phantom Park – it looks like it’s out of gear, but (Surprise!) it’s not.

Not a very “fuel-efficient vehicle” if you can't disengage the transmission.

You’ll notice GM readily refers to the Cruze moves as “recalls.”  But on the Volt, they’re called “call backs.”  Why?

“The (Volt) cars are covered by a ‘customer satisfaction program’ run by GM, which is similar to a safety recall but allows the carmaker to avoid the bad publicity and federal monitoring that come with a recall.”

How ingenuous and straightforward of GM.

At once propping up the uber-failedsuccess” of the Barack Obama Administration’s amped-up auto bailout - and its non-green non-energy crusade.

We have been told by GM that people come in to look at the $41,000 Volt, but leave with the $17,000 Cruze.

"The Volt is leading to a lot of Cruze sales," said Mark Reuss, GM's CEO for North America. Customers are coming in to see the Volt, but “not everyone can buy a Volt,” Reuss said.

It’s good to know they aren’t missing out on any of the excitement.

I was a GM fan until it became Gov. Mtrs.  And, as much as I like the styling of the new Camaro, I'll never buy one.  Love this article.  Well written, and with great humor, sadly.

Until GM becomes a totally publicly traded corp. again, I will never again buy a government motors car. I of course would consider a GM product that was built pre-bailout. Union ownership has proven that their products are inferior, unreliable, but most importantly unsafe.

Once the Unions are booted out, GM will again be able to build a superior product I would be proud to own. But until then, no way.

GM has more problems than just engine and battery fires. Their entire Police equipment line has significant issues in the starting and charging system and it is a fact that their engineers can't figure out CAN (Controller Area Network) Bus. Performing a simple search on Impala and Tahoe electrical system problems returns millions of hits often for the same issues which are largely unresolved by dealers. The worst vehicles in my departments fleet are GM, the most stabile and reliable are Fords and friends don't let friends own or drive a Dodge.

GM has been a second rate brand for decades but I believe it has more to do with their union problem than anything else. A union protects incompetence and promotes mediocrity, GM is a perfect reflection of that statement and bears out its validity in spades.

Obama should have used a chunk of GM's union bailout funding to equip this lemon with a fire extinguisher.

Remember when we all saw the video of GM workers on lunch break, smoking dope?

Birds of a feather... I will drive a Ford any day...

Sorry Jim Coles, You need to educate yourself to whats going on with General Motors. I'm making a change in your last paragraph to give you my take  on this company and invite you to prove me wrong. As long as GM continues to exist,I will never buy another one of their automobiles. General Motors and the Obama administration stole GM bond holders funds and handed it over the the UAW union bosses to purchase stock in this company. Many of these folks were up in age like my wife and I and depended on the interest of their investments for their retirement income. I continue to remind both my senator and representatives in congress of this and will continue to do so until these people are made whole. As for quality, yes GM used to build a great car and we drove either a Buick or Pontiac for over fifty years. But never again. We have a non-union Nissan factory near us that builds quality products with a majority of local employees that are compensated well with good benefits. So Jim, take a look at the attached video and tell us what your think.

Maybe they should change the name from Cruze to...Blaze?

Well, BB, the GM/ China connection should be addressed, but it adds a layer of complexity that goes a bit beyond this discussion, perhaps.

Since GM became Government Motors, the non-US production has risen to a bit over 30%! Why we are financing it elsewhere is difficult to understand. I see

GM venture building 4th China plant

(last week's article.)  Aims for annual output to 2 million vehicles by 2015.

GM.....should we rather call it OM? For Obama Motors, obviously!
