Dr. Sowell is perhaps one of our greatest living economists. Since arguments and debates about economic matters seem so important to almost everyone during our election cycles, I will never understand America's reluctance to actually take the time and energy required to gain even a basic understanding of the subject. I will likewise never fully understand the nation's economists remaining mostly silent during election seasons and allowing politicians and morons to take it upon themselves to put words into their mouths. When Barack Obama and Bill Clinton stood up during the Democrat National Convention and made the astoundingly false claim that all economist agree with us, why was there not a resounding cry from economists around the land that let Americans know that in fact, they were lying?

Following are some of the more egregious myths perpetuated by Team Obama being easily dismantled by Thomas Sowell, Senior Fellow with the Hoover Institution.

I agree completely with Thomas Sowell about getting rid of minimum wage. When I was young (a lot of years ago), I could baby sit, clean a neighbor's house or take in ironing while going to school to learn a trade or career that would pay good wages. My late husband worked as an apprentice for 5 years to become an expert painter. Years later, a babysitter or a painter has to have minimun wage. A working woman can't afford someone to tend her children while she works or goes out for an evening. My husband ended up working with a anyone who could carry a brush for the same wages, which was a tiddle of what his years of experience was worth.

Elaine, if you can see them and play them here on TPN, they're not being censored to you.  Sorry if you've already looked, but have you clicked on that little "megaphone"  volume icon to the right of the triangle play button, on the video?  If your computer's volume is on, then the volume on the video clip itself might be turned off??  Hope it helps?

Cynthia & all:  Prior to the election Clinton said that republicans were living in an alternate universe.  Well?  We're all living in an alternate universe.  I just saw Nina Easton on Special Report on Fox News say that "the republicans stood up to their conservative base this week & thats a good thing."  A good thing?  What the h*ll is she talking about.  If she's talking about not having revenue on the table for the fiscal cliff talks thats fine.  But truthfully we shouldn't want to raise taxes on anyone in this economy.  But even if we concede & raise taxes, the conversation should be what are the projected revenues?  And what is the projected government spending?  If the excuse to raise taxes is we need the additional revenue to reduce the debt then you either need to lock government spending at some current or prior rate, or what we should actually do, cut spending.  I don't hear a word about that.  So if the spending exceeds the additional revenue then good people have paid taxes to reduce the debt all for not.  No?  And this should be enough evidence to show for the record that this argument is purely idiological!

Mr Mason,

Thomas Sowell has been here all along. Try reading articles at RealClearPolitics.com where Thomas Sowell is a frequent contributor.

The latest AP poll (for what it's worth) just reported a 57% approval rating for Obama, with most believing he will improve the economy in his second term. Also believe he will improve race relations. Did they manage to poll every cretin in America, or am I living in an alternate universe...

So where was the great Thomas Sowell when all this needed to be said?   It does us no good that he refutes the lies now.  Ray
