Earth Day and the Great "Sustainability" Lie

By Alan Caruba

Americans are paying the hangman for the rope.

It is estimated that since the origin of the global warming hoax in the late 1980s, Americans have seen $50 billion of their dollars thrown down the climate change rat hole.

In a January CNSnews commentary, Elizabeth Harrington noted that “A study by the Government Accountability Office (GAO) determined that the United States (has been) funding the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC), the United Nations’ authority on alleged man-made global warming, with $31.1 million since 2001, nearly half of the panel’s annual budget.”

“In a Nov. 17, 2011 report, ‘International Climate Change Assessments: Federal Agencies Should Improve Reporting and Oversight of U.S. Funding’, the GAO found that the State Department provided $19 million for administrative and other expenses, while the United States Global Change Research Program provided $12.1 million in technical support through the U.S. National Science Foundation (NSP), averaging an annual $3.1 million to the IPCC over 10 years--$31.1 million so far.”

The forthcoming UN Rio+20 IPCC international conference in June will switch course from the discredited global warming hoax in favor if its fundamental agenda, the imposition of a global government that reflects the UN’s goal of a worldwide socialist economy. The sovereignty of individual nations will be subject to the dictates of a small group of UN bureaucrats.

The theme will be “sustainability.”

There is a reason that the upcoming Earth Day, April 22nd, falls on the birthday of Vladimir Lenin, the former Soviet Union’s first dictator. Everything associated with the environmental movement has communism as its basis.

In February, KPMG, a Swiss entity and “a global network of professional firms providing audit, tax and advisory services” operating in 152 countries, held a conference that attracted “more than 600 top CEOs and senior business leaders from many of the world’s major corporations.” It was held in cooperation with the United Nations Global Compact, the World Business Council for Sustainable Development, and the United Nationals Environmental Programme. Among those attending were former President Bill Clinton and New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg.

It issued a report, “Business Perspective on Sustainable Growth: Preparing for Rio+20 and offered recommendations “to scale-up investment in sustainable development, provide strong price signals on resource scarcity and environmental impacts” and “deliver new platforms for public-private collaboration at the international and national levels.”

In other words, the UN is laying the groundwork to ensure that its bogus sustainability agenda will offer enough inducements to the global business community to ensnare them in its control.

In an article by Terence Corcoran in the Financial Post, he characterized Rio+20 saying, “It’s as if the high priests of Occupy the Planet and the Green Apocalypse—having run their old socialist and environmental engines into the ground—have stumbled across a new set of rationalizations and slogans.”

As if the Obama administration hasn’t wasted billions on its green energy agenda, funding one failed renewable energy company after another, the White House Council on Environmental Quality announced in March that it will sponsor its third annual “GreenGov” Symposium September 24-26 in Washington, D.C.

“The Symposium will bring together leaders from government, the private sector, non-profits and academia to identify opportunities to create jobs, grow clean energy industries, and curb pollution by incorporating sustainable practices into the Federal Government’s operations.” If this wasn't so ludicrous, I'd laugh, but these are the lies the Obama administration wants you to believe.

And people wonder why President Obama killed the Keystone XL pipeline, imposed an illegal moratorium on oil drilling in the Gulf of Mexico, and his administration has issued fewer leases for the exploration and extraction of oil on federal lands than any other.

Throw in the Environmental Protection Agency’s war on the coal industry, and the Interior Department’s limits on access to federal land known to contain uranium deposits for the nuclear energy industry, and you begin to see how our own government is conspiring to leave the United States of America bereft of the energy reserves that we have in abundance!

The nation’s energy needs and its dollar are being weakened in order to eliminate it as the only real deterrent to the United Nation’s, Russia’s and China’s global ambitions.

The Earth has not warmed in fourteen years and it is not running out of energy reserves of oil, coal, and natural gas.

As the global warming hoax is shelved, the sustainability hoax is being rolled out and will be on full display June 20-22 in Rio de Janeiro conference when the usual suspects and charlatans gather to plot the continuation of their socialist revolution.

There is not one single reason why the U.S. taxpayer should be contributing to this communist cabal and conference.

Here's an article I had read last year that spells out Agenda 21 and the UN's "sustainable living:"

Hooray! I think the gist of all this is that "we the people" are financing our own demise.

You finally get it!  Or maybe I'm too premature with my conclusion.

This has been my message over the past year.

@ Jeff Willis - I'm not defending "climate change" or any related notions. I will tell you, though, that, as a farmer, my yields have been decreasing consistently over the last decade, and weather is the reason why. All else being equal, bushels and tons are empirical proofs that can't be denied that SOMETHING is not "normal".

Frankly, I don't care if Voldemort is responsible. Regardless WHY things are as they are, they ARE as they are - and SOMEONE is going to have to do something about it. You can sit there are argue the politics of science, or you can look at your dinner plate and wake up to the fact that, if we don't choose to make good - yes - sustainable choices on our own, that plate WILL be empty.

This isn't theory. I put food on people's plates, and I tell you this as a matter of FACT. One drought - just one - and there will be no grains in this country for more than one year. No feed for meat and/or dairy animals, no bread, no vegetables - at least, not enough for a nation of 310M souls to survive on. For a year.

How long can you live without food, Jeff? Less than a year, I'd wager.

Screw the politics, Jeff. That's nothing but choosing who gets to make the choices. It's the choices, themselves, you need to think about...HARD. And start making them.

And if YOU are already making good, sustainable choices, try to influence everyone in your circles to do the same. If WE do it, government won't have any defensible reason to.

But if we don't...

Thomas, I've never understood how so-called conservatives believe that conservatism begins and ends at the voting booth. It always seemed to me that anyone who is genuinely conservative will be just as conservative in their habits, demeanor, consumption, etc., as they are in any other respect - unless, as our liberal friends claim, we are not PRINCIPLED conservatives at all, but nothing more than greedy libertines, refusing authority and intent on our own pleasure and satisfaction.

One needn't be a Jane Fonda to recognize that we all share one world, that ALL of its bounty is finite and that we must conduct ourselves - in ALL things - accordingly. If we did, what need or tolerance would there be for tyrannical laws compelling us to do, after government's fashion, what we already do on and according to our own?

Freedom and liberty MUST be circumscribed. What sets the conservative apart from the liberal is that the conservative has enough faith in himself and his fellow man to trust him to circumscribe liberty as a matter of conscience, without the compulsion of law.

Global warming is the greatest hoax in our lifetime. The surface temperature has not changed in 65 years. But what if it did rise two degrees?

Many "radical greenies" predict the end of civilization. In actuality, food production would increase. Plants consume co2. This is the way our planet has worked for eons! The "radical greenies" obviously are either very stupid, ignorant or mislead. I think that it's mostly the latter.

Who is misleading these well intentioned people? A lot of special interests! Some want to profit from selling alternative energy products. General Electric can be included in this group. Many of our "political leaders" such as Al Gore and Nancy Pelosi can be included.

Then, there are the "malign" environmentalists who's hidden agenda is "global population control." They see humanity as the primary enemy of the earth. You might also refer to them as the "green Nazis."This people are sick!

Then there are those who simply want to return to a more simple way of living. This would include "no electricity, no running water, no animal protein." I am certain there are places in our large nation where we could accommodate these fine souls. Especially if there were plenty of cannibus included in the arrangement!

Finally. there are the "ideologues." These are the most troubling of the group. They truly believe that it is "if you impoverish the people they can be more easily controlled. The global warming hoax has become their modern tool." The polically incorrect description for these folks is "Neo-Communist." That's right! The quickest way to take control of people's live is to impoverish them. Creating high energy costs and high unemployment works toward this goal. To me, these people are no friend to anyone who loves freedom! Yet they win support from the masses by promising some sort of entitlement, while promoting class warfare.  We must learn to recognize these "Neo-Communists." Many refer to themselves as "progressives." When you hear the term "progressive," you know that you have identified a member of the bacillus that has come down on America. These "progressives" are the cancer that is attempting to consume America.

ZERO's agenda is all about control. Global warming/cooling has been going on since the beginning of time and will continue in spite of what humans do or don't do. We need to cut them off at their pockets. Each day we hear disgusting news and ZERO is going to do something about it.

Here is his latest Executive Order on Natural Gas Control.

It states that Fracking causes EarthQuakes. Duh! If it can cause a quake, I'd bet that someone with a bit of intelligence could figure out how to prevent one.

Also, see the list of Guv agencies involved in it. Sickening!

Enoch Wisner--Thanks!

This has become an issue about which both sides have become more and more adamant in their own positions with neither apparently willing to back off and take a look at the big picture.  Conservation, as in "waste not, want not" has been a long-standing virtue of a free people if they wish to remain free.  Environmentalism? What t'hell is that all about?  It appears to me to be a religious cult that consists of ignoramous suburbanites who have problems differentiating between wealth and prosperity.

Kruschev said we would hang with our own rope and it certainly looks like he may be right. http://www.preparedsociety.com/forum/f26/nikita-khrushchev-u-n-9451/

The first Earth Day left tons of trash in NYC Central Park . . . . an auspicious beginning for Useful Idiots and their obsession with regulatory control of everything.  All references to the trash tonnage seem to have been excised from the web . . . . go figure?

The OWS mobs are glaring proof Liberals still don't understand they need to pick up after they leave a path of destruction in their wake.

The case is not unlike that of an old and decaying house: those who don't like the house will conspire to "repair" real faults in such a way that the resulting "fixed" building is completely unlike the original house.

Those who love the old house, however, are divided into two camps: those who fear the necessary repairs so much that they "go into denial" about the real need for repair altogether; and those who recognize the decay, arguing that, if necessary repairs aren't made, and made soon, those who wish the house to be destroyed will have their wish fulfilled by default.

Like it or not, we in the US have not been husbanding our land and resources well and responsibly. Regardless whether global warming is a real phenomenon or not, regardless, if it is a real phenomenon, it is so because of human conduct, the fact is, nature - and especially the weather - is fickle at best. Texas, Oklahoma and Arkansas suffered horribly from drought in the 1930s, and there's absolutely no rule that says such a drought cannot afflict Kansas, Nebraska and Iowa. Given the conversion of farmland to residential/commercial use in the intervening 80 years, can any of you even imagine how dire our straights will be if such a drought did afflict the almost exclusive source of food for this entire nation? California's Imperial Valley is already sustained by Lake Mead's dwindling supply of water, suffering under virtual drought conditions for decades that are only getting worse by the year.

The point and fact are, the US is only one particularly nasty weather event away from genuine famine as it is, because we've shoved all our agriculture into one coherent, geographically contiguous region - all of our eggs are in one basket, so to speak. The UN sees this. It does not like our house to begin with, and it sees an opportunity in our danger to convince people, on the basis of various propositions (some true, some of less definitive truth), that if government doesn't take control, genuine catastrophe will visit us. This much is true: if we don't start to take PRIVATE steps to husband our natural resources better, our house may very well collapse. Our choice - our ONLY choice - is to choose the steps necessary to preserve our house in recognizable form, or to lose our house altogether, either by collapse consequent of neglectful denial or because governments - national, local and world - will act to "save" us according to their own, less benign designs.

We are using our land and natural resources unwisely. If we do not change that fact on our own, that fact will destroy us, either by their natural consequences or, under the flag of "saving us," by government fiat. The choice is ours. Don't complain if the choice we make - or refuse to make - leaves us without the house we love.
