Dr. Ben Carson’s Biblical Life Lessons as High School ROTC Cadet Colonel

Dr. Ben Carson Scolds Obama about his failings as president

With a father in the hospital dying, the first thought on my mind walking into a high school ROTC class for the first time was not to hear the sharp commands of the cadet colonel Ben Carson. Yet, this was the tail end of the 1960’s and the nation had a new president, and the soldiers in Vietnam were welcoming new army recruits by the thousands who had to be prepared.

But in the city of Detroit at Southwestern High School, in 1969, there was another war occurring. It was a war of ideology based on anger as the city was recovering from riots still smoldering in its inner core from two years earlier. The community and the high schools had a Black Panther Party that was rising as an ideology being embraced by young black teens and older as the correct revolutionary pathway to social justice.

Yet, that morning as the young ROTC cadets looked on at this tall slender ROTC Commandant of Cadets, it was clear by his clear crisp commands there was a better way. His firm but calm demeanor had a different type of leadership that veered away from violent bellicose leftist overthrow demagoguery offered by the Black Panther Party leaders in the school and the neighborhood.

At this first cadet formation , Cadet Colonel Ben Carson spelled out a litany of expectations and goals that he insisted were not his goals but were to be our goals, if we were to ever leave school and go further and higher. His words were planted as nourishing seeds in the minds of those willing to accept and to create their own pathway toward a freedom from the street to the freedom of the ideals created and tested in the mind.

So as Dr. Ben Carson stood before the annual National Prayer Breakfast to speak to a different audience, he reminded them about the higher aspirations of America and an American Dream. This was a dream not built upon scapegoating, and blame and class division and warfare, but on the higher principles of life which are biblically based. It is easy for America to see; his words were not just his principles and beliefs but belonged to the nation as well.

Yet, there were those including Obama who were upset or outraged. Some stated how dare this doctor scold the president, who had just sat in his quiet surliness and listened to Dr. Ben Carson remind him of the fierce urgency of now and Obama’s own failings.

Dr. Carson responded to those critical of his speech by stating, “Well, when did this become a monarchy? You know, we are the people. The president works for us and, you know, we need to remember that. This is a country that is for of and by the people, not for of and by the government and that is the big battle that we are in right now.”

More Blacks should learn about the many black men & women who moved themselves out of poverty & how they did it. Instead of playing the victim

Marcia Wood!!!!!!!

Welcome back girl. Glad to hear your grandson is doing better.

As a physician and the father of 2 beautiful boys I always recommend that as soon as they start trying to walk, knock them down,,,,LOL!

Good to see you back.

The president works for us and, you know, we need to remember that.

This is the most critical ideology that 100 years of Liberalism/Progressivism has convoluted our society with.

Today most Americans believe we work for the government. The basic premise is that at the top of the pyramid is the federal government, below it the state and local governments and then we lowly citizens or, as we are simply regarded, constituents. Of course as our society becomes indoctrinated more and more into the nanny-state mentality this argument is more difficult to argue.

This is the Progressive vision of "trickle-down". We work, pay more and more in taxes and the federal government in their unarguable benevolence gives some of it back to us. They do this  because the Ivy League faculty lounge elitist cabal knows what is best for us because they have read a few books or, if significantly revered, wrote a book.

We have been indoctrinated into believing we must "look up to" our elected politicians.

WRONG!!!

They are to look up to us.

The true pyramid our Founder's and Framers intended was for "We The People" are at the top and then BELOW us is the federal government and slightly below but almost equal to them are the state governments. That's why our Constitution begins with "We The People" NOT "We The Government".

How can anyone look up to our government when we find our great Republic in the state it is today? Instead of demanding our respect they continue to insult us with their lies and false promises as their power and control over us grows and our Liberties and Freedoms shrink.

Doctor Carson epitomizes the principle that America offers everyone an equal opportunity to succeed. He promotes exceptionalism versus the mediocrity that Barrack Hussein advocates. He believes in the checks and balances that prevent our government from becoming a dictatorship.

There is another issue to think about. After Obama, any black man and/or woman will have a difficult time being elected President.

Great to have you back Marcia.

I received a petition a few days ago to endorse Judge Andrew Napolitano for President 2016. I wonder if anyone else received it? My puter crashed at that time and I lost most everything.

I know that he'd be excellent following the Constitution. As far as other things, foreign policy etc. I don't know, but he could have advisors for other things.

Thank you Ms. Beatty---Dr. Carson appears to be a breath of fresh air from the black community which I see more and more of each day. It does not mean however that any of them will bring any serious change among black voters. If he is to be chosen to represent the conservative movement within the Republican/Tea Party group voters as a Presidential candidate; he must be vetted. Does that sound familiar?

By the way, hello to all my friends - I've had the privilege and blessing from God to take care of my little grandson, born June 2nd 2012 with some serious complications.  He's doing great now, starting to walk at the age of 8 months and a very happy little boy, but I've been his caregiver from 7 AM to 6 PM everyday and needless to say, too tired at the end of the day to do anything but take a tubby and crash.
