As much as we all want a Conservative in our White House the simple fact is it will be difficult.

Not only are we competing against an incumbent, he has a very powerful political machine supported by an adoring media. These are daunting challenges to say the least.

What we need is our Conservative candidate to adopt the simple principle of “KISS”.

Keep It Simple Stupid.

Not only are we dealing with many complex issues such as a collapsing economy, joblessness, inflation and significant foreign policy issues, our electorate, to put it mildly, is in essence, illiterate. Ask most of your less politically savvy friends to name 3 things that need to be fixed and chances are you’ll get one, maybe two answers. This is the state of our Union.

The amount of damage that has been heaped on our nation is realistically overwhelming. The sheer magnitude of our debt is impossible for most Americans to wrap their heads around. The consequences of decades of waste, fraud, abuse and corruption in our government is incomprehensible for the typical American. This in effect is the result of one of our greatest failures, education. Most Americans can’t grasp the size of a TRILLION DOLLARS. This is a mind boggling amount of money to the average American making $50,000 a year, at best. When faced with a soon to be $16.5 TRILLION DOLLAR National Debt, let alone $117 TRILLION DOLLARS in Unfunded Liabilities, the average American's brain goes into shut-down mode.

So, how do we go about this KISS approach?

Simple, keep it simple.

Explain to the American people that our government is supposed to work for us, not continuously demand that we work harder and harder for it. Our Constitution has very simple instructions for which our government is responsible for. Inform them that it’s much easier to deal with your State government regarding most issues of day to day concerns rather than a massive bloated bureaucracy hundreds, if not thousands, of miles away. If each and every one of us is expected to live within our means, so does our government. Detail the rampant waste, fraud and abuse that consume hundreds of billions of our tax dollars every year.

Explain to the American people that we need to fix our unfair Free Trade Agreements. Tell them the original concepts of dealing with foreign trade partners that respect human rights, fair wages, safe working conditions and stable monetary policies have been abandoned and need to be reformed. This not only educates the electorate, it sends a clear message to the global markets that we will no longer tolerate these abuses.

Explain to the American people that our criminal progressive tax system is critically flawed and a simple Flat or Fair tax system needs to be created. 72,000 pages of tax code and hundreds of resultant loopholes can no longer be allowed to be abused by those who can afford the army of accountants, tax lawyers and consultants. Explain that a simple tax form the size of a post-card or even more appealing, no tax form, is what we need. The dissolution of the Gestapo IRS will ring true to most Americans. Tell them no government agency should have the power to instill the level of fear that this agency has since its inception. We should never fear our government or any of its agencies.

Explain that a reasonable amount of regulation is required in a society our size but 155,000 pages of confusing and destructive rules is irrational and cost ineffective. Our nation’s wealth, prosperity and standard of living was built on the shoulders of long term domestic exportable manufacturing, not some ridiculous consumption/service sector hybrid that has never succeeded in any other nation our size. A diverse society such as ours demands we have career opportunities from simple production line jobs to high technology aspirations that have allowed us to put a man on the moon, build a space station and have robotic Rovers exploring Mars.

Explain that unions, while once essential to harness the industrialization of our nation, have outgrown their usefulness and as such are needed primarily to maintain reasonable wages for the level of work performed. We have laws and agencies that control work related safety, equal opportunities and discriminatory practices by industry. Unions must become industry supportive to allow us to be competitive in a global economy rather than destructive of its benefits. Public sector unions are the predominant reason for many of our cities massive fiscal problems and as such must be restrained from causing further damage. Industry and its workforce must work in harmony rather than antagonism. The benefits of cooperation far outweigh the resultant exodus of our once thriving industries to more favorable offshore havens.

Explain that the most vital contribution to our general welfare is education. We are no longer graduating proficiency but rather illiteracy. Every class of Americans is affected by our dysfunctional governments intrusion into our future ability to compete on the global stage. Decades of failed policies and social engineering have created a level of educational despair. We need to return to the basics before we can encourage grandiose visions of everyone having a college education. Many Americans are incapable of higher levels of education, for personal or cognitive reasons. This can no longer be an excuse nut rather should be a motivation to reform our current failing system. We have seen the effects of gross malfeasance in our education system and its effect on our society’s inability to compete. Reform our education system so that even with a high-school education our children can have an opportunity to be productive.

Explain that we must create a sound and simple all-the-above energy policy for both our economic and national security. We have the largest natural resource reserves in the world. A policy that promotes energy independence in an environmentally responsible manner is essential and should not be feared. Our lack of exploitation of our vast resources is not only irrational, it’s incompetent. Our diverse energy resources need to be utilized here at home and exported as the world’s energy needs increase. What better way to eliminate our massive debt and economic instability than to become a leader in energy production. To continue the scare tactics of environmental disasters being imminent is counter-productive and self defeating. Our technological advances demand us to allow these energy sources to be used for our benefit. Eliminate the gasoline and oil taxes, lift oil-drilling bans on the nearly 650 million acres of federal land both onshore and off-shore. The immediate results will be a decrease in oil speculation driving prices up. Coal and natural gas production should be increased and thrown on the global markets to also drive prices down. Nuclear energy, with the advent of Thorium as an alternative to Uranium, can be developed as a safe and reliable alternative as other renewable become more efficient and affordable.

These basic issues need to be driven into the American mindset over and over. Keeping it simple so that most Americans realize that it is still morning in America and we are the strongest and freest nation in the world will allow us to promote our Conservative agenda as the only alternative to the entitlement consumed society we see developing in front of our eyes. We must restore the American exceptionalism that has brought the world out of the horse-and-buggy candle-lit past into the world we see ahead of us. We have created the greatest nation in world history based on these principles, deviating from them is not acceptable. Failure is not an option.

Keep it simple stupid, the rest will be taken care of by the American spirit and its inherent freedom.

Charles:  The Oath Keepers would be the ideal organization for protecting the people conducting the citizen's arrests. However, I envision that a citizen's arrest can be performed more in a symbolic way - in the beginning, at least - in which the culprit being arrested is not kidnapped per se but is subjected to a public announcement that he/she is now under citizen's arrest and will not be allowed to leave the country. The culprit will then be surrounded by several thousands of protesters, making it difficult for him/her to go anywhere. This harrassment will continue everywhere the culprit shows up, until he/she agrees to support the amendment or until he/she is expelled from Congress by the remaining membership. Basically, the people performing the "arrest" would simply be exercising their right to assembly.

If more persuasion is needed, the methods can be escalated as necessary.

My problem is that I have observed that too many people are literally stupid - that they get their worldview from the media and the entertainment industry - that they have been convinced that government exists to run their lives - they think they are thinking for themselves but they are being manipulated constantly - I do not have faith the the spirit of the American people - only in God and only He can turn this nation around - unfortunately most people, even if they say the believe in God, believe in their own fantasy of a God - designed to serve their needs - sorry stupidiy and greed and class warfare seem to be gaining the upper hand

Charles, you may be right that Oath Keepers may be the organization that has the testicular fortitude to do what needs to be done.

Also, I just watched a supposedly censored (presumably by the administration) episode of former MN Gov. Jesse Ventura's TV show, Conspiracy Theory, that scared the you know what out of me. It's all about the FEMA camps, the "Fusion Centers" and the hundreds of thousands of grave liners that were stockpiled just outside of Atlanta by the government. I highly recommend watching it, but be forewarned, it may scare the same thing out of you that it did me:

I agree Ed that a bloodless revolution would be preferable by all means but finding the right members of the citizenry with the fortitude to make the arrests and then commit to holding the criminals will be a task of monumental proportions.  I'm former military and law enforcement and a member of Oath Keepers which might be the one organization that could under the right circumstances, accomplish some of what you propose.  If we don't make significant strides toward conservatism in this election, God help us.

Charles: What you say is somewhat true. The trick is to make it a bloodless revolution. The way to do that, in my opinion, is to champion a nearly universally supported cause that has a straightforward route for achievement and a definite outcome that guarantees success. If enough people see the Equalizer Amendment as such a cause, we can build overwhelming support in favor of it. At a certain point, if the criminals in Congress refuse to act on securing the amendment's passage, the supporters of the amendment can begin conducting citizen's arrests of these high criminals, perhaps turning them over to the military or simply keeping them confined within their homes. The charge under which these criminals would be arrested is, "Violation of the oath of office to support and defend the Constitution." Those citizens conducting the arrests would be perfectly within their legal rights, and these citizens would be protected (by the victors) from prosecution. With enough support from the majority of American people, the government would calculate that it is foolhardy and suicidal to resist the overwhelming will of the citizenry. To avoid prosecution for violation of their oaths, all representatives and senators would have no other choice than to pass the Equalizer Amendment and send it to the states for ratification.

After the amendment is ratified there may be a reconstruction phase during which resistance to implementation of the amendment has to be met with impeachments, and there will be a period during which the numerous court cases enabled by the amendment will cause all unconstitutional activities of the federal government to be dissolved or devolved to the states. The change will be permanent, however, and it will result in an economic boom and a great deal of satisfaction to the great majority of the population. Moreover, it will all be accomplished without any breakdown of law and order and without the risk of a dictator taking over.

You make some great points Ed, the problem is they (the criminals in the Congress) will never consent to allowing themselves be held accountable, they make the rules unfortunately.

We are headed for an armed revolution in this country like it or not, and trust me I don't.

Comment by Ed Stoneham on February 7, 2012 at 2:31pm

USARogue: Everything you say makes sense. But, getting back to the issue of how to put forth a simple message that will catch the average voter's attention, consider that the overwhelming majority of the people in the U. S. think our present crop of government officials need to be punished. What is the simplest thing to punish them for? Violating the Constitution. How can we do it? The Equalizer Amendment.

Whoever champions this cause will have a huge following among Republicans, Democrats, Libertarians, conservatives, liberals, Tea Partiers, OWSers, Catholics...you name it. Everyone wants to put these power-hungry elitist government officials in their place. The fact is, one-size-fits-all edicts from the federal government don't fit more than one-third of the citizens. The other two-thirds are up-in-arms about the impositions on their principles. Individuals within this group - and we are obviously among them - would relish a chance to sue federal government officials for any and all of even the slightest violations of the constitutional limitations on government. It doesn't matter what part of the political spectrum they come from, there is always something unconstitutional that the government is doing that violates someone's principles and deserves a day in court. We need to give everyone the standing to sue the federal government in local, state, and federal jurisdictions just as easily as the IRS or any other government agency can sue any one of us.

This is the guaranteed way to make the government obey the Constitution! Give people as much power as the government has. It will be appreciated all across the political spectrum.

Thank You USA Roque!

I suggest that everyone reading and posting to this, please copy it and send to your state and/or local newspapers. Hopefully they will print it in their papers. This is one way to get it to more people that don't have internet or follow the news blogs.
