ActionAmerica Tax Freedom Day Clocks Updated for 2011

The Tax Foundation just released their annual update for Tax Freedom Day and ActionAmerica.org has updated our Tax Freedom Day Clocks, accordingly.

This year, the average taxpaying American will have to work till April 12, to earn enough money to pay all of his taxes for the year. In low-tax Mississippi, the average taxpayer will work till March 26, to pay his tax bills, while over-taxed Connecticut taxpayers will have to work till May 2, to pay their enormous tax burden - that's more than a third of the year.

The question that you must ask yourself is, "Are the services that I am getting from the government worth from 23% to 34% of my work life?"

Or to put it another way, "Are the services that I am getting from the government worth from 23% to 34% of everything that I am paid and couldn't I acquire many of those services better and for less money, if I paid for them myself?"

The Tax Freedom Day Clock, that appears in the first comment after this post, is a constant ticking reminder that all working Americans are effectively "slaves" for a quarter to a third of the year. (For some reason, I cannot attach the Flash-based clock to a primary post on TPN, but I can attach it to a comment. Go figure...)

Please visit our site and grab the code snippet, to post it to your own sites or on social networking sites and forums, as I have posted it below. As an embedded Flash widget, it uses our server bandwidth - not yours.

Spread it around, as a way to remind folks just how much of our work goes to support the government.

Tax Freedom Day for almost 50% of Americans in Jan. 1st. They pay no taxes and consume a good portion of ours. Some even get money back from the government without paying a cent. All Americans should have to pay taxes no matter how much or how little they make. There should be no free ride. Even those on the low end of the wage scale should have to pay something, even if it is a minimal amount, as a reminder that we all share the burden of funding this Great Country.

What services? I have never collected a dime from any program. The only thing the Federal Gov't has that I will gladly support is the US military. The rest of the programs just keep making more welfare recipients and growing by the millions every year and I'm tired of footing the bill

The "right to life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness" is violated by our draconian tax system.  How is it I have a right to my life when the government claims 20-30% of it.  That is my life I pouring into my work, and the government steals a big chunk of it. It is my liberty that is taken when my life (in the form of my money) is stolen.  I don't have the liberty to do many things because it has been taken away with the theft of my money/life. Happiness?  How can one be happy when one's life and liberty are stolen?

Tax freedom day for calendar 2010 was Aug 19th.  Tax freedom day for 2011 will be about Aug 21st.  About 62% of the value that is produced by the effort and energy that is expended by the nation's private sector working people is transferred to and then flows through one or more of our 27,000 or so governments.

If you include all payments of all kinds that transfer prosperity from the workers who produce value to our kleptoparasitic governments who use and dissipate value, about 5 hours of each 8 hour work day are used to provide for the kleptoparasites.

There are too many people who want taxes to rise.

wow that is great the two questions should be posted at the doors of congress....do they pay the same taxes....I know their health plan is the best money can buy perhaps there is no better plan...no out of pocket for anything I don't even think they get anything deducted from their pay then get it for life. can anyone verify that? if any of that is true our legislature is out of touch with reality I believe they need to take a 50-75% pay cut till they correct the budget .

Of course that doesn't include State, County, City, sales, gas or the other myriad taxes...:)

Here is the Tax Freedom Clock for 2011 that I referred to above. Go grab the embed code and spread it around, to keep people informed as to how much of their work goes to pay taxes.
