Brief Movie Reviews: The Man With The Iron Fists ( 2012 ) and "Ip Man".
The Man With The Iron Fists ( 2012 )
This movie stank on ice! One of the worst movies we've ever tried to watch. I think we made it through 30 minutes. If I could have given this zero stars at Netflix, I would have! Gratuitous violence in what was apparently one of Tarantino's twisted erotic and bloody fantasies.
I studied martial arts for years and this movie had me laughing several times - I thought perhaps it was a comedy, but it wasn't, just a very bad movie. ( Explains why it was on Netflix's "Instant Watch" already. ) The weapons were idiotic and it was more special effects than reality! Do the makers of this film really think that most people are stupid enough to enjoy this? Don't waste your time!
Oh, and if you want a really good martial arts movie and can handle subtitles, we switched to "Ip Man" after this one, and it was 5 stars - excellent! It rescued our Saturday movie evening!
It was about Ip Man, an amazing Wing Chun Master in China during the Japanese occupation. We're looking forward to seeing Ip Man 2 now! ( Wont spoil it by saying more. ) Chinese language, subtitled, but an awesome movie, especially if you like martial arts!
So we were talking with the people at our favorite Chinese restaurant today, and mentioned the movie, and the fact that the Japanese occupation killed at least 25 million Chinese people. I mentioned the quote:
"You cannot invade the mainland United States. There would be a rifle behind each blade of grass." from Japanese Admiral Isoroku Yamamoto,
and expressed thankfulness that the United States has always had a heavily armed population, thanks to the 2nd Amendment, and they told me that it wasn't so in China, that only the government was allowed to own guns, and when the Japanese came in, the population was unarmed! ( Hear that Democrat-Socialists?! Why do you want us disarmed and helpless? No, don't bother, I know the answer - so you can rule us, like peasants! )
Then Mao also killed about 70 million Chinese during his reign, too!
Almost 100 million Chinese dead in the last century alone, because of being kept disarmed!
And that was only the Chinese people, not even getting into the 6 million Jews, which apparently no one learned a thing from, as most American Jews are unarmed pacifists. Then Stalin, Pol Pot...I could go on and on about unarmed victims in the last century!... But then, as Stalin said; "A single death is a tragedy; a million deaths is a statistic." Those are the kind of people that you can trust to disarm and rule you!
But I asked the young woman we were talking to in the restaurant, if she'd ever touched a gun, and she replied "no", but someone else in her family had. I told her about our concealed carry, and encouraged her to try shooting, telling her how fun it is.
Oh, and fringe benefit: You at least get to defend yourself against tyranny and tyrants!
Footnote: "Ip Man" was made in China, and at the end they said that eventually the "Chinese people overcame the Japanese invasion", but I wondered about that part. Really? With what, if they were unarmed? I seem to recall something about the United States dropping two very large radioactive bombs on Japan, and that ending the war very quickly.
