GM Plans to Build 500,000 Plug-In Cars by 2017

Note: This first appeared in the Breitbart.com's Big Government.

Just over 1/2 of 1% of anything is a paltry number, unless you are a fact-free Enviro-Mental - in which case it is cause to revel.

These (electric/hybrid) vehicles were 0.65 percent of total North American sales, again a best-ever performance.

If that’s a record - more than a decade and about $6.5 billion-in-government-subsidies-just-since-2008 into the experiment - it may be time to end the experiment.

Does lead Enviro-Mental President Barack Obama think so?  Not so much.

Obama’s Goal: One Million Electric Vehicles By 2015

Some car manufacturers, however, are reaching this eminently logical conclusion.

Toyota Drops Plan for Widespread Sales of Electric Car

Toyota Motor Corp has scrapped plans for widespread sales of a new all-electric minicar, saying it had misread the market and the ability of still-emerging battery technology to meet consumer demands....

"The current capabilities of electric vehicles do not meet society's needs, whether it may be the distance the cars can run, or the costs, or how it takes a long time to charge," said (Vice Chairman Takeshi) Uchiyamada, who spearheaded Toyota's development of the Prius hybrid in the 1990s.

And Toyota has been the dominant leader of the minuscule plug-in market.  The Prius electric is the #1 U.S. 2012 seller, and the Camry hybrid is #2.

Anyone else succumbing to “green” car Reality?

Nissan CEO Abandons '12 Electric Vehicle Sales Target

Nissan Motor CEO Carlos Ghosn finally admitted the automaker will not meet its sales target for its all-electric Leaf — in another sign of the broad struggle of the electric vehicle industry....

Ghosn...has been far more bullish on EVs than any other major auto executive... (But) company executives have internally spent months debating how to officially abandon the sales target.

What about General Motors (GM) - a.k.a. Government Motors - and its more-than-$3 billion-in-federal-government-subsidies-alone Chevy Volt?  You know, GM - the $51 billion part of the $83 billion auto bailout?  On which we’re poised to lose more than $42 billion?  The GM of which We the Taxpayers still own 26%?  That GM.

Has Reality seeped into GM’s plug-in approach?  Not so much.

Too Big to fail?

Comment by B Beck on November 28, 2012 at 7:11pm

I will bet Government motors will be broke and begging or should I say raping the American people again before 2015 and someone said ford didn't take a bail out they did the same time Harley Davidson did and that bail out was kept secret from the public for about a year and a half.

Well, gee, if you are an "Enviro-Mental" or a "Goracle" and if it is atmospheric CO2 that's the issue at hand, then a one hundreth of one percent increase--a measured increase of one part in ten thousand--in a century and a half is a whopping big deal.....Reason to panic, even, and to start using tax money to subsidize the production of electric vehicles for which there is no real market if they are priced to reflect the true cost of producing them!!!!!

And interesting little tidbit (to me, at least): All cost is created when an amount of energy of some kind, including the energy of people, is used, dissipated and converted into an unusable form.  Government financial subsidies for "green energy" are in fact, paying for "conventional" energy (coal, natural gas, petroleum, nuclear, etc.) that is being used and wasted to drive the processes and systems that are being used to "produce" clean green energy.

Ignorance is a curable condition but stupidity is terminal.  And fools never learn.

And I suppose the EPA and Obama are planning to build 500,000 consumers to buy them?...

Comment by Edward Plitt on November 27, 2012 at 8:35pm

All I can say is I won't be buying one.

This makes me angry..Just allow them to fall off of their green cliff.

Lets see . . . . common sense, NO . . . . . ability to master simple math, NO . . . sick, YES!

1) the electric grid will crash with this many charging Dolts!  Cost to upgrade the electric grid . . . Trillions!

2) at GM's current loss rate this will generate another $20 Billion loss.

3) at GM's current tax credit per vehicle this will generate $3+ Billion for America's taxpayers to pay.

4) the Dolt is not currently, nor will it ever be competitive with its competing products.

5) this plan could only have come from Pointy-Headed-Dysfunctional-Bureaucrats, in Washington, deCeit.

Lets see . . . . the plan makes perfect sense to Washington Bureaucrats, but no-sense-to-rational-folks.

obama says . . . . Let's do it and concurrently realize the Cloward & Piven and Alinsky strategies!

Why does no one ever bring up the obvious question.....

What is the first thing do go out during a storm, earthquake, tornado, hurricane, or just because a city is using to much at one time???????????????????????

The technology is a awesome idea but until it is still in it's infancy stage. You may also want to look up a 1950's-60's science magazine where they were taunting the electric car as the wave of the future. Sorry kids but still not there yet.

P.S. we are not depleating oil and coal, they are simply trying to delete it....WHY.....$$$$$$$$$$&POWER

Comment by Phil McConathy on November 27, 2012 at 2:48pm

I am assuming that 95% of them will be bought by federal government under this current socialist regime. I say GM will be bankrupt within another 4 years.

Comment by Pat Chadwell on November 27, 2012 at 2:10pm

Oil and power are being depleated to bring America down so the brotherhood will step in to take over, As long as Obama and his group are in power the USA will only go down and down...
