A Grandfather's Memorial Day Prayer
Blessings to you and your family on this "special day" of the year.…

Some people have asked me why I am so persistent in posting a note everyday on my Facebook wall that says, "Mr. President, bring Bowe Bergdahl home." Perhaps you have read it a couple of times and asked yourself, "Who is Bowe Bergdahl, and why is McManus so obsessed with him?" Perhaps you don't even read it anymore as it has become so familiar and expected, it is not worth another thought.
I think Bowe Bergdahl is important, and his release from his Afghan captivity should be the… Continue

When someone makes a statement like "The only education we should be interested in is Christian education", it might earn brownie points with certain fanatics.
However, it really needs to be clarified before the wider scope of the Church can endorse it.
For example, does the person making the statement include the entire breadth of human knowledge derived from reflection upon the creation and applications deduced from such cogitation?
If so, the statement can be… Continue

It is a stated objective of President Obama and of the Democratic Party to nationalize health care. They came close to getting it while they still had a veto-proof majority -- they jammed Obamacare through Congress.
The election of 2010, however, gave Republicans control of the House, and it gave them more power in the Senate, which means the issue is still alive – they can delay the implementation of Obamacare; after the election of 2012, they could possibly overturn… Continue

It’s Memorial Day 2011. As you read this, you’ve either been to a cookout this weekend or are planning to attend one today, or both, or you’ve hosted one or will be hosting one today – or both.
It’s a three-day weekend, so you get an extra day off and you’ve a short work week ahead of you. It’s also the unofficial start of the summer season. Schools are winding down and vacation plans are being made.
It’s just another Memorial Day weekend.… Continue

Thomas Payne said during the time of the American Revolution, "These are the times that try men's souls."
When you watch the accompanying video, it may strike you in a number of different ways. For those of us who have served in combat, it will likely bring painful flashbacks of our comrades in arms who never returned. If you have family or friends who are serving right now, it may remind you of the 'dreaded knock at the door' you never want to hear. For others who may not have a… Continue

I have been writing since the uprising in Egypt that the Muslim Brotherhood and shariah Islamists are taking control. I have been and remain concerned that the Muslim Brotherhood is the best organized and funded political party in Egypt. The Muslim Brotherhood is committed to the destruction of Israel, the United States and the imposition of shariah law across the globe. Now we learn from ALMASRIALYOUM.com that, "Muslim Brotherhood… Continue

A few Memorial Days ago, I was sitting comfortably on my sofa, enjoying salty snacks and a refreshing sweet tea while watching a program honoring our military on TV. Mary would inform me when the charcoals were ready to throw on the steaks. Life was good.… Continue

At the risk of being burned in effigy and being ran out of town tared and feathered I would like to point out the folly and the danger of voting for any existing party candidate,
I see a lot of folks take a lot of stock in candidates like Gingrich and Palin when these two candidates serve as an example of why we should all avoid like the plague when considering who we should vote for to lead this nation. Gingrich is an easy one to eliminate as a potential candidate to vote… Continue

If you ask me, Ron Paul is the RINO – Republican In Name Only.
Don’t get me wrong; that’s a good thing. I have been a Ron Paul guy since I first heard of him in 1988 when he ran for President as a Libertarian Party candidate. I just think it amusing that the term RINO is the pejorative used by those on the fringes of the GOP to smear the Republicans they don’t like – i.e. most of them.
Who is under the fat hump of the GOP bell curve? 47 Republican senators signed on to a… Continue

The basic problem with government is that people are ungovernable. The bigger government becomes and the more it tries to do, the stronger the resistance to its commands and mandates. History’s tyrannies have all collapsed of their own weight.
We gave rebellion our first test drive at age two – our tantrums drove our parents nuts and that pleased us greatly. When it was time to go off to kindergarten, we discovered that we could refuse to move and negotiate a sugary cease-fire… Continue

Is $4 too much to pay for a gallon of gasoline? Wait – before you answer, push your car for 18 miles and then tell us.
I don’t like paying $4 for gas either, but sometimes we need to remind ourselves of the tremendous benefit we gain from gasoline in exchange for the price we pay.
Gasoline is the most liberating invention of mankind since the printing press. The abundance of affordable goods and food we take for granted is made possible by gasoline. It is gasoline that… Continue

A poem by Henry Reed from World War Two captures the brutal absurdity of war as it depicts a new soldier listening to a field lecture on the various parts of a rifle and compares it to the beauty of the world around him. Unspoken is the need, from time to time, to fight for the freedom to enjoy that beauty.
Naming of Parts

Today we have naming of parts. Yesterday,
We had daily cleaning. And tomorrow morning,
We shall have… Continue

If all the people in the USA need National Healthcare, why not put everyone on Medicare and make it better? The President and Congress and all federal employees, Military and yes, Unions, also everyone in the 50 states. Then find a way to stop the robbery by EVERYONE INVOLVED, including elected officals, hospitals, doctors and other providers throughout the nation, also the People? My point is simply this, Medicare and Social Security was robbed by a lot of dirty, rotten, filthy people, but… Continue

Hello kiddies, today we’re gonna talk about Memorial Day. Tomorrow is the big day yet there seems to be some confusion as to what it’s all about.
As a vet I would like to clear up some misconceptions on the subject.
First despite what Wal Mart, Target, Food lion, Lowes home improvement or food stores, or any other retailer might try to lead you to believe it has nothing to do with sales. I know that might be hard to believe it’s the God honest truth.
It also is not a… Continue

Can President Obama be Defeated in 2012? YES! He can. We are going on record as saying that President Obama will lose a second term. The media won’t tell you this because a good election campaign means hundreds of millions (or in Obama’s case billions) of dollars to them in advertising. But the truth is, there simply are many conditions under which Barack Obama…

Florida has a large and growing number of citizens on Medicare and Social Security. I live in Sarasota, Florida, which is demographically the oldest county of the over 3,000 counties in America.
I am on Social Security as is my wife. My wife's 86 year old parents are on Social Security. We all receive benefits from Medicare. But I and my family understand that Medicare is unsustainable. I and my family understand that if Medicare goes bankrupt we will have no medical coverage. That… Continue

In the first part of this story, I was getting ready to leave home to travel to the Staten Island Homeport to get an official guided tour of the USS New York. Along with our 9/11 Tribute Film's director, Jeff Bruzzo, we were to join up at the front gate at 12:45 pm and walk to the Media Affairs area. Well, things turned out for the good, but not as we expected because of the excitement of the day. …
