Jack Enright said… Laurie, I am so sorry to have overlooked your invitation for so long, and offer you my most sincere apologies for doing so. I have not looked at the TPN website much at all over the last year or so, having been very occupied in carrying on the libertarian fight on this side of the Atlantic, so missed seeing your kind invitation - which I am very happy to accept.
I see that Bryan Baskin commented that you are from one of his 'favorite parts of the world' - mine, too! I was fortunate enough to have a chance to visit southern Tennessee in 2007, and loved both the country and the people who made us so welcome in 'small town America' (and I still reminisce about the pineapple cheesecake we had in the Country Boys Restaurant in Winchester - out of this world!)
My friends and I decided that we weren't interested in visiting the big cities, and usual tourist attractions; we wanted to see the real America - and we did.
Curious thing that we all noticed. None of us felt as though we were 'abroad' - we felt so much on the same wavelength as the people we were fortunate enough to meet, that it seemed to us that we were actually in a new part of our own country, where people just spoke with a different accent. A home from home.
With best wishes from me in the Peak District,
Jack
