Welcome, John, to the Constitution Study Group! To get started, please read, The Rules posted at the top of the page and then, "1. FOR NEW MEMBERS & OTHERS", in the Discussion Forum on our Page. [Click on "view all" to see all the Discussions]. Best way to get started is to start reading the Discussions. Some are numbered, read those in order. Then read the others as you have time. There is also good stuff on the "Wall" as you get time! Glad to have you in the class!
HB 1874, as introduced, prohibits Tennessee from participating in the implementation of the federal REAL ID Act of 2005, which mandates a national identification card for each citizen of the United States; it was assigned to the Finance Subcommittee May 6, so it's not yet come to the floor. http://www.capitol.tn.gov/Bills/107/Bill/HB1874.pdf
If a National ID card is not prohibited by the States, the Feds will require everyone to carry an ID card. I am told that Tennessee has almost completed the Federal compliance requirements and is ready to go - unless HB 1874 is enacted to prohibit the Federal law.. Here is what Wikipedia has to say about the Federal Real ID law. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/REAL_ID_Act
Can you imagine being required to carry an ID card in order to fly on a plane or enter government buildings? With today's technology, the cards could will be embedded with electronic personal info and/or tracking abilities - without public knowledge - so everyone's steps could be recorded.
