On June 14, 1764 Samuel Adams established the first Committee of
Correspondence whose purpose was to alert the other Colonies to the
Mass. stand against the Stamp Act, which he labelled "Taxation without
representation". The concept was to create an "internet" of correspondence
to keep all colonies abreast of the growing resistance to British
taxation policy and thereby present unified opposition. It spread rapidly

That's what the merchants and traders said to Sam Adams when he proposed
the Non-Importation Act. Did he really expect them to give up the importation
of British luxuries like tea? Even John Hancock, larger-than-life signer
of the Declaration had a "Who, me?" moment when his ship, Liberty, was boarded
for smuggling. Fortunately for us, those who were ready to risk "life,
liberty and sacred honor " out numbered the "Who, me" bleeding hearts.

In October 1765, ten years before Lexington and Concord, the first
Boycott against importation of British goods was enacted in New York. Phil-
adelphia and Boston followed suit. As a result, the hated Stamp Act was
repealed a few months later.
