As one of his first acts in office Barack Obama issued an Executive Order requiring that "union-only" project labor agreements (PLA) be considered on federally financed construction. This repealed a George Bush Executive Order prohibiting them.

This was a huge boon to the Union Bosses who had elected him because Obama's failed stimulus package was to contain so much money for construction projects.

PLAs drive up the cost of public works construction.

It may seem a bit strange, but I wrote to my Congressman recently telling him to reduce my Social Security benefits. There's a catch to it, of course. I wanted the benefits reduced by the same percent that the federal budget was reduced. I would gladly get by on 10 percent less in Social Security benefits, if the federal government's budget was reduced by 10 percent.

January 16th is Virginia Religious Liberty Day. Virginia's Statute for Religious Freedom was written by Thomas Jefferson in 1779. It wasn't enacted by the General Assembly until January 16, 1786. The Statute for Religious Freedom contains the oft quoted line, "to compel a man to furnish contributions of money for the propagation of opinions which he disbelieves is sinful and tyrannical."
