As we provide some more quickie analysis of Article 1, Section 8 of the Constitution, we begin with the Congressional responsibility for the coinage of money. Oops, we may begin with it, but they…Continue

Constitutional Eulogy

Constitutional EulogyCharlie Earl Can you name one original constitutional provision or any of the first ten amendments that the federal government has not violated? Go ahead think about it or “google it.” Count on your fingers, use your toes and make your best guess. As you know, we have various classes of crimes listed in our federal, state and local criminal codes. Basically they fall into two major categories: misdemeanors and felonies. So…how severe should be the penalty for violating the…See More

Economic Independence

Economic IndependenceCharlie Earl There seems to be a tipping point when economic conditions become difficult that determines whether the people are restless and disgruntled or whether they become passive and resigned to their fates. When that critical position is reached, many people cease their struggling and concentrate on coping with the burden. In a sense I suspect that we may be nearing that point. Although I detect a lot of anger and dismay among many of the voters I know, I do not…See More

Democrats Should Vote for Gary Johnson

Democrats Should Vote for Gary JohnsonCharlie Earl On Monday I poked a stick into the hive of Republican complacency and received a buzzing frenzy of feedback. Because I am an equal-opportunity offender, I now direct my pleas to the one or two sensible democrats who are aghast at what their party and their president have done to our country. I’ve met many of you during the past few years, and a number of you are dedicated union members who are disgusted with your unions’ promotions of the…See More

Debate Daze

Debate DazeCharlie Earl After sipping the Dom Perignon and enjoying a fine Havana, many patriots and their Republican acquaintances are basking in the afterglow of a total beat down during Wednesday’s Denver debate. Governor Romney treated the President like a rented mule as he pounded him all over the arena. The Governor was on message and politely aggressive while the President seemed confused and dispirited. More than 70 million viewers tuned in for the Romney romp, but were they…See More

Bike Paths are Immoral and Illustrative

Bikepaths are Immoral and IllustrativeCharlie Earl You won’t see me dressed in a gaudy form-fitting Speedo outfit wearing an aerodynamic helmet while riding my $600 hi-tech bicycle. No, I’ll be the one on the John Deere Gator moving mulch and hauling rocks. As a fierce defender of individual liberty, I prefer the exhaust fumes of expended fossil fuels over the pristine sights surrounding a taxpayer-funded bicycle path. It does not make sense for me that local governments expend funds for…See More

The Big Johnson Effect

The Big Johnson EffectCharlie Earl Contrary to your first impression, this is not a summary of my autobiography. This column is totally based on my opinion and my perception. Whatever research or data I’ve used to form my point of view comes from nothing more than anecdotal evidence and my “gut.” Here is my premise: Libertarian presidential candidate Gary John will “steal” as many votes from Barrack Obama in Ohio as he does from Mitt Romney. For those of you whose partisanship outweighs your…See More

Too Big to Prevail

Too Big to Prevail?Charlie Earl My written ramblings often generate emails that accuse me of being (paraphrasing and consolidating) a hopeless pessimist. Over the years I have learned that one of the better tools for achieving success is to anticipate the “worst case scenario” so that one does not become devastated by a setback. Frankly…I’m a hope-filled reasonably happy individual. We ignore perilous trends and triggers, however, if we choose to permanently reside in Pollyanna-ville. Crap…See More

All in...or not.

All In….or Not.Charlie Earl Readers of these columns and the ones from my previous site, www.littlestuff-minoosha.blogspot.com , have sometimes responded that my views regarding constitutional governance are “too rigid” or “unrealistic.” They’re probably right…. if constitutional fidelity is merely a lip-service rally cry. That is not the case for me. I truly believe that STRICT constitutional adherence is our only hope for preserving…See More

Testy Means

Testy MeansCharlie Earl According to most demographic determinants, I am a “senior citizen” or “golden-ager.” More accurately, though, I think of myself as a kid trapped in a fragile skeletal and muscular structure. My spouse and I have labored for many years to achieve some small level of economic freedom. Sometimes we were successful and other times we were not, but here we are approaching 70 years at break-neck speed. We have become rather adept at detecting the real meanings behind…See More

Undercover Safety

Undercover SafetyCharlie Earl The safe security of the covers soothes the fears of a toddler who suspects a monster lurks in the closet or a boogeyman hides beneath the bed. The little tyke pulls the blankets high and nestles underneath in a make-believe womb of invincibility. Many adults are not much different. They refuse to acknowledge reality or to face adversity. They hide beneath the “covers” of ignorance or self-delusion. As logically thinking people, we know that the “covers” cannot…See More

Bugle Call

Bugle CallCharlie Earl As a former trumpet player in high school though not a very good one, I hear the call of the bugle (a trumpet without valves). Any warrior can attest that the bugle call pierces the din of battle and informs the troops of the next maneuver. While headsets and earphones have replaced the bugle on the battlefield, the trusty instrument remains a staple for significant ceremonial occasions. It seems rather clear to me that many of our people here in the U.S.A. should be…See More

Numbers

NumbersBy: Charlie Earl Generally, I’m a rather optimistic and “happy-go-lucky” sort of person, but when I scan the news on the internet and sit at this keyboard, my chuckles are transformed into chagrin. From carefree to curmudgeonly. As I research and consider the topic of the day, my mind mulls over the ramifications of my fellow citizens’ reactions (or indifference) to a particular news item. Rasmussen, Gallup and Quinnipiac were not around when the American Revolution was launched in the…See More

Return from Liberty Gulch

Welcome to “The Liberty Legation.” Following my five-plus month sabbatical, I decided that a new title for this column is in order. While “Littlestuff-minoosha” has served me well for a couple of years, it seems to me that the somewhat clownish title may have distracted from message. Clearly because of my passion for individual liberty and personal sovereignty, the title should reflect that point-of-view. On the other hand, I know and pray that my quest for restoring and retaining liberty is…See More

Mr. Earl,

Is your "National Mindset" speaking for yourself and not for the nation? Are you addressing the choir out of cowardice?

These people that you are calling the mob vote - just as you and I do; are you winning any hearts and minds to the side of liberty in this essay?

Hi Charlie,

Sorry I didn't get back to you sooner.  Ralph the Chairman really liked the idea.  (thinking out of the box)  I think it is something we need to keep pursueing.  We really didn't get into it on the phone conference.  It started out deciding we need to do one thing and do it well to get started before we launch into alot of areas.  So right now we are trying to get a short Constitutional film shown in as many classrooms as we can on Constitution Day  Sept 17.  It is law that schools must spend some time on the  Constitution on that day.  This year it is Sat so we aren't really sure what the requirements will be.  I still want to hear more about your idea as it gets developed.  I'm also interested in the animation process you spoke of .

Hi Charlie,  nice to hear from you.  I don't quite have this forum figured out.  I usually just read the articles that  TPN send.  Today I have a web conference with the Educational committee of the Ohio Liberty Council.  I'm feeling a little out of my league right now.  If you have any wonderful ideas on how to educate our citizens and children let me know.  Best to you.
