Monday Top News Executive Summary

Media Editors: “President Donald Trump on Friday issued the first veto of his presidency, defying a bipartisan rebuke of the national emergency he declared to circumvent Congress to get more money for his proposed southern border wall,” ABC News reports. “Attorney General William Barr was on hand to tell the president that his emergency declaration was ‘clearly consistent with the law.’ Homeland Security Secretary Kirstjen Nielsen told him that the fact that it was an emergency was ‘undeniable.’” Meanwhile, House Speaker Nancy Pulosi announced, “On March 26, the House will once again act to protect our Constitution and our democracy from the President’s emergency declaration by holding a vote to override his veto.”

On the Senate side, The Hill says: “Republicans are already setting their sights on making it easier to terminate future emergency declarations — setting up an intriguing round two. … Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) has tapped Sen. Ron Johnson (R-Wis.) to craft legislation … that could win the 60 votes needed for a bill to defeat a filibuster and ultimately pass the upper chamber. … Roughly a third of the Republican conference … is already backing legislation from Sen. Mike Lee (R-Utah) that would require Congress to pass a resolution approving future national emergency declarations within 30 days. … [Johnson stated] that he thought the ‘basic concept’ of Lee’s bill was ‘correct’ and could ‘pass constitutional muster’ but that he expected others would have ideas on what the final legislation should look like.” Unlike the House’s political theater, this is a far more sensible approach. As we stated last week, “We still argue that Trump has not exceeded his authority under the law as it stands currently, but we also believe that the National Emergencies Act grants too much power to the executive branch.” That’s what the Republican Party is rightfully seeking to ameliorate.

Speaking of emergencies: “Criminal organizations in Mexico have mounted a lucrative new smuggling operation that uses express buses to deliver Guatemalan migrant families to the U.S. border in a matter of days, making the journey faster, easier and safer, according to U.S. law enforcement reports and U.S. and Guatemalan officials. … Paying up to $7,000 per adult with child, families are transported to staging areas at ranches and hotels in southern Mexico, where they are organized into bus groups and rushed north along Mexican highways, ‘stopping only for food, fuel and bathroom breaks,’ according to the U.S. law enforcement documents.” (The Washington Post)

“Ambitious proposals to end climate change and provide healthcare for everyone … have failed to win the support of even half of the House Democratic caucus,” the Washington Examiner reports, “effectively dooming any chance of floor consideration.” commie-Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez’s Green New Deal has been publicly endorsed by a mere 90 Democrats — a fraction of the caucus’s 235 members. Similarly, the Democrats’ Medicare for All has a relatively lackluster 106 total co-sponsors. However, while it’s good that, as the Examiner headlines it, the “Socialist agenda stalls in the House,” the fact that even this many lawmakers approve of these schemes is cause for alarm.

Then again, maybe socialism isn’t as acceptable to outside-the-Beltway Americans as commie-AOC thinks. According to Fox News, “A Gallup poll released Friday shows that commie-Ocasio-Cortez’s unfavorable rating has risen by 15 points since last September, when she had yet to win the general election, increasing from 26 percent to 41 percent of the American adults polled.” Fox adds, “Since September, commie-Ocasio-Cortez became more widely recognized across the country, with half of the respondents saying they have never heard of her before. Now only a fifth of surveyed people says they aren’t familiar with the self-described Democratic socialist.” Name recognition hasn’t exactly resulted in universal plaudits for commie-Ocasio-Cortez.

“Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand officially announced her bid for president Sunday,” the New York Post says, further explaining, “Prior to the … announcement, the New York senator had simply formed an exploratory committee.” Jonah Goldberg spoke for us all by wisecracking: “To the delight of literally dozens.”

Over the weekend, President Donald Trump stated: “On the recent non-binding vote (420-0) in Congress about releasing the dirty cop-Mueller Report, I told leadership to let all Republicans vote for transparency. Makes us all look good and doesn’t matter. Play along with the game!” As Fox News explains, “Since the measure is nonbinding, [Robert] dirty cop-Mueller, [William] Barr and Trump cannot be forced to release more information to Congress and the public than the Justice Department and federal law require.” Moreover, “Whenever dirty cop-Mueller does submit his report, Barr will review it and is expected to create his own report explaining the findings to Republican and Democratic leaders of the Senate and House Judiciary Committees.”

NBC News reports, “socialist-Beto O’Rourke raised $6.1 million in his first 24 hours as a presidential candidate, according to his campaign, surpassing commie-Bernie Sanders and every other 2020 Democrat who has disclosed their figures. … commie-Sanders beat expectations and stunned observers by raising a then-record-setting $5.9 million in his first 24 hours as a candidate last month.” However, socialist-O’Rourke’s haul comes despite his writing murder fantasy, hacking computers, and DUI charge. Oh, and white maleness.

“Sen. commie-Bernie Sanders’s (I-Vt.) presidential campaign announced Friday it will have a unionized workforce, a first for a major party candidate,” according to The Hill. Memo to commie-Sanders, et al.: Be careful what you wish for…

The tip of the iceberg? “Federal prosecutors and Department of Transportation officials are scrutinizing the development of Boeing Co.‘s 737 MAX jetliners, according to people familiar with the matter, unusual inquiries that come amid probes of regulators’ safety approvals of the new plane. A grand jury in Washington, D.C., issued a broad subpoena dated March 11 to at least one person involved in the 737 MAX’s development, seeking related documents, including correspondence, emails and other messages, one of these people said. The subpoena, with a prosecutor from the Justice Department’s criminal division listed as a contact, sought documents to be handed over later this month.” (The Wall Street Journal)

“A cancer-stricken U.S. Navy veteran from California who was first detained in Iran while visiting a girlfriend has been sentenced to 10 years in prison there on charges of insulting the country’s supreme leader and posting a photo on social media, his lawyer said Friday. … [Michael] White served in the Navy for 13 years and is believed to be the first American detained in Iran since President Trump took office. … U.S. government efforts to get White released could face difficulties given the fractured relationship between Washington and Tehran that sunk to a new low after the U.S. withdrawal from the Iran nuclear deal last year.” (Fox News)

Policy: “The bribery scheme to get privileged children into elite universities is causing parents and teachers across the country to fume with righteous indignation,” Kenny Xu writes at The Daily Signal. “But the revelations of corruption in the multibillion-dollar college admissions industry is perhaps more indicative of how Americans’ views of college — especially among the elite — are shifting into dangerous territory.” Read why here.

Policy: When it comes to the Remington lawsuit, National Review’s Kevin D. Williamson says: “Two kinds of opportunism are at play against the gun manufacturer: financial and political.” Here’s his explanation.

Devin Nunes Confirms Central “Spygate” Element: Chris Steele Did NOT Write the Dossier

by sundance

{theconservativetreehouse.comThe one consistent discovery that CTH has been hammering home over a year-and-a-half, is that Chris Steele did not write the dossier… The information within the dossier was a collection of old research by Glenn Simpson and Mary Jacoby at Fusion-GPS, in combination with new research, claims and details provided by Nellie Ohr. Our 2017/2018 research has always shown the collaborative files of Simpson and Ohr were then laundered by contracting British intelligence analyst Christopher Steele, with some effort of secondary validation, and assembly into a formal intelligence product that could be pushed into the U.S. intelligence community. The ‘push‘ included contacts with media, Dept of State, and politicians like rino-John McCain. Ranking member of the HPSCI Devin Nunes outlined to Sean Hannity he too has come to this conclusion.

Ilhan Communication

by Matthew Continetti

{} ~ I have a new hobby. It’s collecting the excuses Democrats make for Ilhan Omar, the Minnesota Democratic congresswoman who has an unhealthy fixation on Jewish influence, Jewish money, and Jewish loyalty… Omar has said that Israel “hypnotized the world,” attributing Jews with the power of mind control in the service of manipulating public opinion. She’s said the only reason Congress supports Israel is Jewish campaign donations. Most recently, using the classic anti-Semitic trope of dual loyalty, she criticized supporters of Israel for having “allegiance to a foreign power.” A real treasure, Omar is. A typical freshman congresswoman sees her mission as—forgive the expression—bringing home the bacon for her district. Not Ilhan. Her project is to mainstream anti-Semitic rhetoric within the Democratic Party. Once upon a time, you’d have to visit the invaluable website of the Middle East Media Research Institute to hear such tripe. Now you just need to flip on C-SPAN. And Democrats are powerless to stop it. They’re tripping over themselves, making rationalizations, dodging reality, and trying to clean up this anti-Semitic mess. Omar is new to this, they say. She never intended to come across as anti-Semitic. She can’t help it. “She comes from a different culture.” She didn’t know what she was saying—she’s a moron! She’s just trying to “start a conversation” about the policies of Israel’s government. And why are you singling her out, anyway. “She is living through a lot of pain.” She’s black, she’s a woman, and she’s Muslim. You can’t condemn her without also condemning white men of privilege. What are you, racist? Islamophobic? Shame on you for picking on this poor lady, who just happens to say that American Jews serve a foreign power by buying off politicians and using the Force to blinker people’s minds. Before such “arguments”—they are really assertions of victimhood to intimidate critics—Nancy Pulosi shudders. She’s supposed to be this Iron Lady, returned to power after exile, ruling her caucus with a vise-like grip. But her hands are covered in Palmolive. She’s spent the first weeks of Congress doing little more than responding to the various insanities of Omar and Rashida Tlaib of Michigan. Pulosi will condemn Omar one minute, before appearing with her on the cover of Rolling Stone the next. She’s lost a step. She can’t hold her caucus together when Republicans call for motions to recommiton the House floor. The policies her candidates ran on in swing districts vanished under the solar-powered glare of commie-Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez’s Green New Deal. We’re not talking about covering preexisting conditions, we’re pledging to rid the world once and for all of the scourges of air travel and cow flatulence. Pelosi’s trigger-happy committee chairmen, firing their subpoena cannons into the air at random, look like goofballs desperate to impeach President Trump…

Cardoza-Moore delivers petitions to Washington for Ilhan Omar’s removal

by Zachary Keyser

{} ~ Evangelical leader Laurie Cardoza-Moore hand-delivered letters and petitions containing “tens-of-thousands” of signatures to Capitol Hill in order to remove Ilhan Omar from Congress… demanding a full investigation into Omar’s connections with the Muslim Brotherhood. Cardoza-Moore met with a number of Washington lawmakers this week, in addition to Nancy Pulosi and Attorney-General William Barr to forward her agenda to remove Omar and affiliated antisemitic and anti-American parties from Congress. “Ilhan Omar is a self-professed antisemite and a danger to our great country. She is making a mockery of all Americans by sitting in the House of Representatives while publicly raising money for organizations that seek the destruction of our republic,” according to Cardoza-Moore. “We the people demand that a thorough investigation is carried out to ascertain her connections to the Muslim Brotherhood and its American affiliates. Until such time, it would only be appropriate that she stand down from office.” Cardoza-Moore refers to 18 U.S. Code § 2385. “Advocating overthrow of Government,” for government justification in removing Omar. The penal code reads: “Whoever organizes or helps or attempts to organize any society, group, or assembly of persons who teach, advocate, or encourage the overthrow or destruction of any such government by force or violence; or becomes or is a member of, or affiliates with, any such society, group, or assembly of persons, knowing the purposes thereof-Shall be fined under this title or imprisoned…” Cardoza-Moore, currently sits as the President of Proclaiming Justice to the Nations (PJTN) and as a Special Envoy to the United Nations for the World Council of Independent Christian Churches (WCICC). She also hosts a Christian-Zionist television program called Focus on Israel, a show that reaches over two billion viewers spanning across two-hundred nations…

An Unheralded Prophet

by Anthony J. DeBlasi

{} ~ The writing on the wall came most clearly, I think, in 1994 when Randall A. Terry said: “In 1959 it would have been unthinkable to the average American – whether Democrat, Republican or Independent… that children would be murdered by abortion, homosexuals would be indoctrinating our children and demanding ‘marriage’ rights, that our surgeon general would be calling for the legalization of criminal drugs, and the distribution of condoms to ten-year-olds, that our tax money would pay for a crucifix floating in a vat of urine, that prayer and Bible reading would be illegal in government schools, that new-age, one-world, indoctrination would be standard fare. None of these atrocities could have been foreseen much less discussed in mixed company a scant 35 years ago. Where will it end? Will what is unthinkable and unspeakable today be commonplace 35 years hence? One shudders to imagine . The author of this prophetic comment was arrested many times for his protests against “legalized injustice.” In 2017 Randall was arrested for crossing a no-trespassing zone in order to protest the guest appearance of President scumbag/liar-nObama for a commencement address at “Catholic” Notre Dame. He was doing what the university administrators failed to do – disallow a public figure to spread an aura of legitimacy to elective abortion in a Catholic, pro-life zone of learning. Randall was acting in good faith against what was intensely wrong, while the administration, acting against its own avowed interests, staged a high profile abomination. Randall Terry is not the only fearless person arrested and carted off to prison for obeying morally correct law instead of politically correct law. The history of persecution and martyrdom for standing against evil reaches back to B.C. Today there is no need to imagine the outcome of the ongoing subversion of justice in America. It is in plain sight, for all to see, in the news, in commentary, in painful personal stories…

Feds Pay Millions for Lobster Tail, Booze, Toys in End of Year Spending Binge

by Elizabeth Harrington

{} ~ Federal agencies billed taxpayers millions for lobster tail, alcohol, standing desks, golf carts, and more frivolous expenditures before budgets ran out at the end of the fiscal year… A new analysis released by found 66 agencies spent $97 billion last September, the final month of fiscal year 2018. The end of the year taxpayer-funded spending spree included contracts with Coors, millions on iPhones, furniture, and CrossFit equipment. “In the final month of the fiscal year, federal agencies scramble to spend what’s left in their annual budget,” said. “Agencies worry spending less than their budget allows might prompt Congress to appropriate less money in the next fiscal year. To avoid this, federal agencies choose to embark on an annual shopping spree rather than admit they can operate on less.” Resulting government expenditures included $4.6 million on lobster tail and crab; $673,471 on golf carts; $1.7 million on pianos, tubas, and trombones; $9.8 million on workout and recreation equipment; and $7.7 million iPhones and iPads…

New Zealand Assailants: Fascist Anarchist, Not ‘Right Wing’

Nate Jackson: The brutal terrorist attacks on two mosques in Christchurch, New Zealand, today, were, according to police, perpetrated by Brenton Tarrant, a sociopathic Australian who identified as a “white nationalist.” Three others were arrested in connection with the attacks. The assailant(s) killed 49 people and wounded nearly that many more. Tarrant live-streamed part of the attack to FaceBook, and posted it to other social media outlets – significantly enhancing the profile of this attack. The assailant(s) reportedlyfled the second mosque after a good guy with a gun returned fire.

The primary suspect declared in a lengthy manifesto that he was inspired by the racists who perpetrated attacks on a black church in South Carolina and a teen camp in Norway, among other such attacks. For that reason and because he mentioned President Donald Trump as “a symbol of renewed white identity and common purpose” (though condemning some of his policies), the Leftmedia and others, including the Australian prime minister, are parroting the charge that he is a “far-right extremist.”

We note that these are the same Leftmedia outlets that lectured ad nauseam after Islamist terrorist attacks — including Paris, Orlando, San Bernardino, and 9/11 — that Islam is the religion of peace, and that we shouldn’t stereotype Muslims by associating all of them with a few extremists.

Indeed, we certainly shouldn’t embrace such stereotypes.

That advice notwithstanding, we fully expect the Leftmedia’s reporting on this incident, and hate-profiteering by the Southern Poverty Law Center, to focus on the rise of “right wing” hatred in the age of Trump. But as we’ve said before, there’s nothing uniquely “right wing” about racism or nationalism.

The New York Times reports, “Writing that he had purposely used guns to stir discord in the United States over the Second Amendment’s provision on the right to bear arms, he also declared himself a fascist. ‘For once, the person that will be called a fascist, is an actual fascist,’ he wrote.”

How many times do we have to say this? Fascism is not a right-wing ideology. Anyone who thinks so — whether pro or con — is woefully misinformed and committing the intellectually bankrupt sin of conflating racism or, in this case, racist anti-immigrant sentiment, with the right side of the political spectrum. This assailant was not advocating lower taxes, limited government, or individual liberty. He claimed, “I am just a regular white man, from a regular family. Who decided to take a stand to ensure a future for my people.” As Erick Erickson notes, “He is sympathetic to the ideals espoused by Bernie Sanders and wants state control of corporations.” He called himself an “Eco-fascist” who wanted a form of “Green Nationalism.” He railed against humans for destroying the environment and causing global warming, and he advocated government control to stop it. “The nation with the closest political and social values to my own,” he wrote, “is the People’s Republic of China.” That would be the Communist government of China.

Right winger? Hardly.

For his part, President Trump said, “I spoke with Prime Minister Ardern of New Zealandto express the sorrow of our entire nation following the monstrous terror attacks at two mosques.”

A final note: Attacks on houses of worship are, tragically, nothing new. The Associated Press compiled a list of 18 such attacks just over the last decade. Churches, mosques, synagogues — nothing is safe. Such violent hatred is pure evil. Indeed, the assailant bore symbols of Satanism among his belongings. Responsible people should rise above that evil with run-of-the-mill political disagreements. ~The Patriot Post
