Monday Top Headline Summary

by Media Editors: If life seems better lately, it’s not just your imagination. “The public’s quality of life has improved sharply in the past two years,” Investor’s Business Daily reveals. The IBD/TIPP Quality of Life Index, which averaged 53.7 when Barack scumbag/liar-nObama was in the Oval Office, is now appreciably higher at 59.3. Trump isn’t just making America great again; he’s making life better again.

Shutdown part II? On Friday, a spending deal was reportedly being finalized. But now, according to the Washington Examiner, “Negotiations on a spending accord needed to avert a government shutdown [this coming] Friday have nearly collapsed, and Republicans say it’s because House Democrats are pushing for new limits on how many illegal immigrants agents from Immigration and Customs Enforcement can detain this fiscal year, including violent felons.”

It’s almost as if we need a border barrier: “Illegal immigration across the southwest border is on pace for the worst year since 2007 — or the last time the country began a massive wall-building spree — according to new Homeland Security numbers. Four months into the fiscal year the Border Patrol nabbed nearly 201,500 people, compared to about 109,500 at the same point in the previous year. If that 84 percent surge holds, it works out to 733,000 immigrants crossing illegally for fiscal year 2019, which would be by far the highest numbers in more than a decade.” (The Washington Times)

“On Sunday, after Rep. Ilhan Omar (D-MN) displayed her blatant anti-Semitism by tweeting that GOP support for Israel was ‘all about the Benjamins,’ and followed by accusing AIPAC of paying American politicians to support Israel, bipartisan condemnation of her remarks erupted, although no leading Democrats said a word about their colleague’s vile rhetoric.” (The Daily Wire)

It’s looking increasingly likely Virginia Lt. Gov. Justin Fairfax will be purged from office. Fox News reports that “Fairfax was hit with a new allegation of sexual assault on Friday afternoon, just days after the embattled Democrat was accused of assaulting a separate woman in 2004.” Meanwhile, Townhall says the obstinate Gov. Ralph Northam “has been assigned reading about the case for reparations, among other things, as he prepares to retool his agenda to highlight race and equality.”

“Supporters of Democratic Sen. Amy Klobuchar endured frigid temperatures to gather Sunday afternoon just outside downtown Minneapolis for her ‘big announcement’: that she is the latest to enter the increasingly crowded Democratic field for president. Klobuchar … has hinted for weeks that she would be entering the race, officially doing so after an onslaught of reports that her ‘Minnesota nice’ public image does not align with how she treats staff members behind closed doors.” (The Washington Free Beacon)

The Washington Free Beacon also reports, “Democratic speaker of the House Nancy Pulosi (Calif.) has appointed to the special committee on climate change members who have all received significant backing from the energy industry.” If it wasn’t for double standards…

“Will commie-Ocasio-Cortez’s ‘Green New Deal’ even get a vote?” the Washington Examiner’s Susan Ferrechio wonders. Right now, it’s not etched in stone. “House Speaker Nancy Pulosi, D-Calif., hasn’t promised it will get time on the floor, and as of last week, she hadn’t even read the ambitious resolution.”

“Walter B. Jones Jr., a North Carolina congressman who so enthusiastically supported the 2003 invasion of Iraq … but who later underwent a dramatic change of heart and emerged as a prominent Republican critic of the war, died Feb. 10, on his 76th birthday.” (The Washington Post)

On Friday, Acting Attorney General Matthew Whitaker sat down before the House Judiciary Committee, even though he “doesn’t expect to remain in the job for more than another week, as the Senate is expected to confirm nominee William Barr for the position,” The Daily Signal’s Fred Lucas reports. Here are “8 Takeaways From Acting AG Whitaker’s House Judiciary Committee Hearing.”

Bracing for the worst: “U.S-backed Syrian forces say they launched a final push to defeat ISIS in the only remaining pocket of territory that the extremists still hold in the country. A large presence of American troops remain in Syria, but local forces fear what comes next if the U.S. completely pulls out.” (CBS News)

A pointless endeavor: “On Wednesday, gun owners got to see what a Nancy Pulosi controlled Congress looks like as the House Judiciary Committee held its first gun control hearing in nearly a decade. Things went as one would expect.” (NRA-ILA)

Disgusting — and predictable: “Prosecutors initially included a charge of abortion against the Queens man arrested Friday in his pregnant girlfriend’s murder — but rescinded it because of Gov. Andrew evil-Cuomo’s new Reproductive Health Act.” (New York Post)

Sanity is on the DL: “Major League Baseball will replace the ‘disabled list’ with the ‘injured list’ for the 2019 season amid concerns that the term ‘disabled’ was insensitive.” (The Daily Wire)

Humor: Imaginary superhero Captain Planet criticizes Green New Deal for being unrealistic (The Babylon Bee)

Policy: “Democrats unveiled their latest version of the Green New Deal on Thursday, but despite some concessions to reality, this version is still little more than socialism masked as environmental policy,” The Daily Signal’s Jarrett Stepman observes.

Policy: The GOP’s “sabotage” approach to scumbag/liar-nObamaCare is paying off. At National Review, Robert VerBruggen explains how “the Republican party, however ineptly and inadvertently, might have stumbled into a health-care policy that actually works.”

“WTF Is Going On In Downtown LA?” : Army War Drills Continue Across Los Angeles

by Tyler Durden

{} ~ Having started on Monday, the US Army continues its war drills across the greater Los Angeles metropolitan area through Saturday… with the goal of enhancing Army Special Forces skills by “operating in urban environments”, Army Special Operations Command said in a statement. Residents around Los Angeles may hear sounds associated with the field training exercise, including helicopters and weapon simulations, according to the statement. “The local terrain and training facilities in Los Angeles provide the Army with unique locations and simulates urban environments the service members may encounter when deployed overseas,” the Army told CBS. Downtown Los Angeles residents were shocked Monday night when a fleet of Boeing A/MH-6M Little Bird and Sikorsky UH-60 Black Hawk helicopters swooped in around them…

Should Paul McCartney and Other Billionaires Be ‘Abolished’?

by Nick Gillespie

{} ~ As left-wing populists and progressives ascend in the Democratic Party, they are laying down new dogma, none more heartfelt than the idea that billionaires are evil, rotten, and not to be tolerated… For the commie-Bernie Sanders, Elizabeth dinky-Warrens, and commie-Alexandria Ocasio-Cortezes of the world, billionaires are what witches were to Salem congregationalists and kulaks were to Lenin: a threat to they system that must be eliminated. commie-Ocasio-Cortez’s economic policy adviser Dan Riffle has changed his Twitter name to “Every Billionaire Is a Policy Failure.” Lefty blogger Tom Scocca declares “Billionaires are bad. We should presumptively get rid of billionaires” he graciously adds, “they may go on living…but they must not be allowed to possess a billion dollars”. A research director at the proggy Roosevelt Institute says simply, “We do not need billionaires.” Then there’s former scumbag/liar-Clinton administration Labor Secretary Robert Reich, who believes that with great wealth comes great culpability. Reich links to a column by The New York Times’ Farhad Manjoo with the eliminationist title “Abolish Billionaires: A radical idea is gaining adherents on the left. It’s the perfect way to blunt tech-driven inequality.” The column makes two large points that undergird the anti-billionaire movement. First is the idea that nobody deserves or needs a billion dollars. “Why should anyone have a billion dollars,” asks Manjoo, “why should anyone be proud to brandish their billions, when there is so much suffering in the world?” Second is the notion that “inequality is the defining economic condition of the tech age.”… These people are sick.

Stacey Abrams Wants A Divided America

{} ~ On Tuesday evening, President Trump gave his State of the Union address. The theme of his address: choosing greatness… But in reality, Trump’s speech was about more than that rather generic theme. It was about gratitude. Trump’s speech was about a particular image of America: an America born in truth, sustained by heroism, fighting its own demons in pursuit of its highest ideals. To that end, Trump called forth memories of Normandy and the liberation of the Nazi death camps, of the moon landing and the civil rights movement. What America is, Trump said, was made possible “thanks to the blood and tears and courage and vision of the Americans who came before.” Then failed Georgia gubernatorial candidate Stacey Abrams responded. She presented a sharply contrasting vision of America: a land of aspiration, but a land rife with brutality and racism; a country steeped in a vicious history, struggling to overcome its own perverse DNA. She focused, in particular, on her defeat in Georgia, claiming that “voter suppression” had been a serious issue in her race. But the key line of Abrams’ speech went further. “We fought Jim Crow with the Civil Rights Act and the Voting Rights Act. Yet we continue to confront racism from our past and in our present…America achieved a measure of reproductive justice in Roe v. Wade, but we must never forget, it is immoral to allow politicians to harm women and families to advance a political agenda.” Black Americans. Female Americans. Gay Americans. Group by group, she informed Americans that they were still victims of a hierarchical, discriminatory system… She is so full of it just as the dems are.

Trump’s Affirmation of Life at National Prayer Breakfast

by Culture Beat: At Thursday’s annual National Prayer Breakfast, President Donald Trump — though not exactly the role model of Christian faith himself — gave a clear reminder of why so many Christians voted for him. First, he defended prayer itself.

On D-Day, all those warriors set out on their mission of liberation. President Franklin Delano Roosevelt led our nation in prayer. In a national radio address, President Roosevelt began with these solemn words: “Almighty God, our sons, the pride of our nation, on this day have set upon a mighty endeavor: A struggle to preserve our Republic, our religion and our civilization.”

Since the founding of our nation, many of our greatest strides — from gaining our independence to abolition, from civil rights to extending the vote to women — have been led by people of faith and started in prayer. When we open our hearts to faith, we fill our hearts with love.

Many of the people in this room lead and support the charities and faith-based institutions that bring hope to the lives of our citizens, comfort to those in despair and solace to those in grief, aid to those in need and a helping hand to struggling people all around the world.

And then, as Democrats around the nation rush to quash life in the womb, Trump stood up for the most innocent among us:

As part of our commitment to building a just and loving society, we must build a culture that cherishes the dignity and sanctity of innocent human life. All children born and unborn are made in the holy image of God.

Every life is sacred and every soul is a precious gift from Heaven. As the Lord says in Jeremiah, “Before I formed you in the womb, I knew you. Before you were born, I set you apart.”

He closed with a call for unity similar to that in his State of the Union Address:

We are blessed to live in a land of faith where all things are possible. … On Tuesday, I asked Americans to choose greatness. … Greatness for our country and to renew our love and loyalty to one another as friends, as citizens, as neighbors, as patriots and as Americans.

There could no better way to begin this exciting national adventure than the way America has always begun our greatest adventures — by coming together in prayer. So today and every day, let us pray for the future of our country.

Let us pray for the courage to pursue justice and the wisdom to forge peace. Let us pray for a future where every child has a warm, safe and loving home.

Let us come together for the good of our people, for the strength of our families, for the safety of our citizens. … And let us always give thanks for the miracle of life, the majesty of creation and the grace of Almighty God.
