There is a nefarious move afoot to (in effect) eliminate the Electoral College and replace it with a National Popular Vote (NPV).  The Left has been agitating for this.  But now, there is an organized & concerted effort to get this done.

Here is the formal paper which I have just posted.  I hope it will make you weep when you see the gifts our Framers gave us and how they provided for the States to be able to CONTROL the national government.

I provide links to the NPV website. Look at all the State Legislatures who have signed this "Compact".

Please study my paper.  If you have any questions at all, ask.

You must be on watch to what your State legislators are doing.  If your State has passed this, then you must contact some reasonable politicians and get them to withdraw.

People - legislators - are so shallow.

You will come across people who don't know any better clamoring for this.  So YOU must be part of the army to turn back the tide.

As I was looking at the background for the 17th Amendment, of course I went to the most authoratative source - Google, which led me to Wikipedia.  I was expecting to find a Progressive push to ramrod this past the States and convince the People to pass the Amendment.  If what I read is accurate, a majority of the States had already passed resolutions in this direction prior to the proposed amendment being passed by Congress.

To me, this is mind-boggling!  It is an example of being for the thing that is the very worst thing for you best interest.  I expected to find the States fighting against it.

Thank you, Mark. That makes perfect sense! I have had some health issues and then my time working within the GOP and it has left me working from emotion instead of intellect. I have developed such a strong distaste for our entire way of electing people that I am forgetting that its roots are clean and honorable. I have had  too much of the power hungry "money will buy it", and "sound bites,"  that I am losing hope we will ever return to the "shining hill."

Even my one Senator that I thought was great and spoke often for the Tea Party has cast some terrible votes. He was voted back into office in 2010 and said he would only serve 2 terms. This is his second. We are feeling that he is selling us out now.

Where are our honorable citizens? I know they exist. Perhaps they are just too wise to run for office.

Mollie,

Now let us consider the NPV vs. The Electoral College as the FOUNDERS described it. Let me ask you to answer this question; Would you prefer to have an elector like Publius Huldah voting for a President on your behalf, or would you prefer that all Americans over 18, regardless of their understanding of the Constitution, Federalism, etc.; cast ballots for President and total these collectively and across State lines?

Under which scenario is the most likely chance of a suitable President being elected? The one by a few Electors chosen by either the citizens or the State Legislature; or by a mass vote Coast to Coast?

Mark,

Very nice, well done!

You sure know how to drive a point home.

Oh, great question! If they were like Publius, definitely, I want her! However, what I have going now to the Convention is 9 people who know even less about the Constitution than I do and who have spent their lives doing nothing more than making sure they held onto their power within the local party. They scare me to death. They ignore votes, over-ride voice votes, adjourn meetings against a chorus of complaints, and refuse to re-convene though they are required to listen to resolutions from the precincts. Yet, somehow,, they are the ones "elected" to go to Tampa. I don't believe it!

i don't know if anyone has posted this and i won't on this post but there is a Article on WallBuilders.com that deals with this subject and does it in such a way , it makes you able to explain to anyone the Electoral Collage and why we must fight to preserve it or lose our country...the link is below..i think everyone should read and share..and it complements this study and will add to the debate..thanks for posting this much needed study...

It is a very interesting article. I will have to read it again. But I keep coming back to the same question. The Electoral College was supposed to do away with the advantage of the larger states but, in fact, it does not. Romney has not campaigned at all in SC - we are only a lousy 9 votes. We generally go Republican. Obama lost big in 2008. Romney is playing with fire this time. Obama is campaigning heavily here. The unions have been trying to get into this state for years. We have BMW and just recently Boeing - both unionized in other states. Romney is ignoring us. He lost the primary big time. I even called and tried to email his headquarter to suggest that he had better put some money here. His site did not work. His office got me an automated answer and no one returned my call although their site ASKS for suggestions. Forty percent of our population is African-American and are much more inclined to vote for Obama this time. And the unions are working overtime. We have an above average unemployment rate. Unions are promising union jobs. Now who do you think the people are going to listen to? Holder blocked our voter ID law. A lot of us are scared! More are waiting to usher Obama back in!  And 9 votes just might make the difference!

Mollie, the procedures set forth in our Constitution to have specially selected wise & knowledgeable people ("Electors") be the ones who cast the votes for their States for President, served several functions.  One was to give the smaller States more of a voice  in the election of the President:  And we have had several elections where one candidate won the popular vote, but another won the election b/c he got the needed electoral votes.

Say California has 55 electoral votes.  Even if every person in that State votes for obama, obama will still get only 55 electoral votes.  But with a national popular vote, it would matter whether he just got the most votes cast, or whether he got all the votes cast!

Re the corruption in the State parties: This is out of my area.  But we must find a way to clean up our State parties.  Tennessee's State Republican party is corrupt. If we could find someone knowledgeable on how to address this, we could start a discussion on it.  Sarah Palin told us to take the Republican party over.  Well, just how do we do that?  Among my local contacts, I don't know many who give a hoot what the Constitution actually says.  They really don't care - thou they pay lip service to the Constitution.  What they really go for is personalities and image.  Why should they learn Principles when "marco rubio is the one who will save us?"  They put their faith in princes.

I am thinking more & more that it is unlikely we will come out this without considerable suffering and loss of life.  That seems to be the only way GOD can get peoples' attention.  So WE must be prepared.  And never give up.

I haven't read this.  But when David Barton speaks on the Constitution, take what he says with a grain of salt - b/c he subscribes to the usual common  misconceptions.   He may know history, but he doesn't know the Constitution.

e.g., he parrots the drivel put out by the "establishment conservatives" (Heritage Foundation, etc.) that Nullification is not permissible.
