Greetings Brothers and Sisters,
I started this group, but I want you to know that I don't run it. It runs itself. Likewise no one person controls this group. You don't need to run things by me to post them. All I ask is that you keep the language clean and respect all Christians, no matter their denomination.
Yours in Christ,
John-Carlos

At least 75 top Republicans have signed a legal brief to be submitted to the Supreme Court this week, arguing that gay marriage is a constitutional right, according to The New York Times, which got a copy of the document.

The court is preparing to take on the subject of gay marriage late next month, when it will hear oral arguments on the constitutionality of California's gay marriage ban, Proposition 8, and the Defense of Marriage Act. It is expected to render a decision in early summer.

The signers of the document are mostly out-of-office Republicans or former top officials, including former Utah Gov. Jon Huntsman, former Rep. Deborah Pryce (R-Ohio), former Massachusetts Govs. William Weld and Jane Swift, and former New Jersey Gov. Christine Todd Whitman.

A new West Point study released by the U.S. Military Academy’s Combating Terrorism Center is linking opposition to abortion and other “fundamental” positions to terrorism, and pro-life leaders say it’s just a way to paint them in a negative way.

The study, “Challenges from the Sidelines: Understanding America’s Violent Far... says the major far right threats are from, “a racist/white supremacy movement, an anti-federalist movement and a fundamentalist movement.”

Author Arie Perliger cites “anti-abortionists” as an active threat for terrorist activity.

“The anti-abortionists have been extremely productive during the last two decades, amassing 227 attacks, many of them perpetrated without the responsible perpetrators identified or caught,” Perliger wrote. “And while, in both cases, the 1990s were more violent than the last decade, in the case of anti-abortion, the trend is much more extreme, as 90 percent of attacks were perpetrated before 2001.”

American Life League President Judie Brown believes this is a smear tactic.

The Alliance Defending Freedom notes that the Obama administration has suffered 10 losses and only four victories in defending the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act’s abortion-pill mandate in court, a losing record the alliance of attorneys advocating religious freedom celebrates.

Reuters reports,

“A public school district in Texas can require  students to wear locator chips when they are on school property, a federal judge  ruled on Tuesday in a case raising technology-driven privacy concerns among  liberal and conservative groups alike. U.S. District Judge Orlando Garcia said  the San Antonio Northside School District had the right to expel sophomore  Andrea Hernandez, 15, from a magnet school at Jay High School, because she  refused to wear the device, which is required of all students. The judge refused  the student’s request to block the district from removing her from the school  while the case works its way through the federal courts.”

Planned Parenthood reports record year for abortions

January 7, 2013 | 3:59 pm

In its latest annual report for fiscal year 2011 to 2012, Planned Parenthood reveals that it performed 333,964 abortions in 2011 – a record year for the organization.

According to annual reports, the organization performed 332,278 abortions in 2009, 329,445 in 2010, making the total number of abortions in three years to 995,687.

Planned Parenthood reported receiving a record $542 million in taxpayer funding, according to a Susan B. Anthony List analysis of the report, in the form of government grants, contracts, and Medicaid reimbursements. The amount is 45 percent of Planned Parenthood’s annual revenue.

“While government subsidies to Planned Parenthood have reached an all time high, so too has the number of lives ended by this profit-driven abortion business,” SBA List’s President Marjorie Dannenfelser said in a statement. “Destroying nearly one million children in three years is not health care and does not reflect a concern for vulnerable women and girls.”

Contraceptive services at Planned Parenthood have dropped by 12 percent since 2009, and cancer screening & prevention services have dropped by 29 percent.
