Only Speaker Ryan or Trump Can Force Rosenstein to Turn Over Subpoenaed Documents

by Susan Jones

{ } ~ “What people should be concerned about the most right now is obstruction of a valid congressional investigation by the Department of Justice,”… Rep. Devin Nunes (R-Calif.), the chairman of the House intelligence committee, told Fox News’s Sean Hannity Wednesday night. Nunes said he’s run out of patience with Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein, who is still refusing to turn over subpoenaed documents that may shed light on FISA abuse. Nunes said as of now, there are only two ways to force Rosenstein’s hand: “One, we can hold Mr. Rosenstein and others at the Department of Justice in contempt and impeach. The other way would be for the President of the United States to demand them, to order them, to give us all the documents. Those are really the only two ways that we can get those documents.”…

IG refers five FBI employees for investigation, as more anti-Trump messages revealed

by Brooke Singman

{ } ~ The Justice Department inspector general has referred five FBI employees for investigation… revealing in its report on the liar-Hillary Clinton email case that more bureau officials than previously thought were exchanging anti-Trump messages. The long-awaited report largely dealt with the Justice Department and FBI’s handling of the liar-Clinton case but uncovered numerous messages that “appeared to mix political opinion with discussions about the MYE investigation.” MYE, or “Midyear Exam,” was the code used in the FBI to refer to the investigation into liar-Clinton’s private email server. “Some of these text messages and instant messages mixed political commentary with discussions about the Midyear investigation, and raised concerns that political bias may have impacted investigative decisions,” the report read…

IG Report: FBI Officials Accepted Bribes From Media

by sundance

{ } ~ We identified numerous FBI employees, at all levels of the organization and with no official reason to be in contact with the media… who were nevertheless in frequent contact with reporters. Attached to this report as Attachments E and F are two link charts that reflect the volume of communications that we identified between FBI employees and media representatives in April/May and October 2016. We have profound concerns about the volume and extent of unauthorized media contacts by FBI personnel that we have uncovered during our review. In addition, we identified instances where FBI employees improperly received benefits from reporters, including tickets to sporting events, golfing outings, drinks and meals, and admittance to nonpublic social events. We will separately report on those investigations as they are concluded, consistent with the Inspector General Act, other applicable federal statutes, and OIG policy. The harm caused by leaks, fear of potential leaks, and a culture of unauthorized media contacts is illustrated in Chapters Ten and Eleven of our report, where we detail the fact that these issues influenced FBI officials who were advising Comey on consequential investigative decisions in October 2016…

Sweden: “It’s Fun to Build a Mosque”

by Judith Bergman

{ } ~ Some Muslims in Sweden want to be able to broadcast public calls to prayer throughout the country… They have already succeeded in obtaining permission for this in three cities — Botkyrka, Karlskrona and Växjö. “We want to have calls to prayer in more places. There are many Muslims who are Swedish citizens, who have the same rights as everyone else” said Avdi Islami, Press Officer of the Växjö Muslim Foundation, after the police recently gave permission for the Växjö mosque to make a roughly 4-minute-long prayer call every Friday around noon. A March poll of 1,000 Swedes showed that a majority of Swedes — 60 percent — are against public Muslim calls to prayer. “We do not consider the contents of the loudspeaker broadcast, but only the potential noise that it makes,” said Magnus Rothoff, unit commander of the southern Swedish police region, in explaining the decision-making process of the police…

How to Solve the Gaza Humanitarian Crisis

by Yochanan Visser

{ } ~ Even as Hamas vows to continue the violent “Great March of Return” through the summer, despite a noticeable decline in the motivation among Gazans… to turn up for new confrontations with the IDF along the Gaza border, Israeli politicians and IDF officers think they have found a possible solution to the crisis. On Sunday, the Israeli security cabinet discussed the situation, and in particular the ongoing humanitarian crisis in Gaza, for the first time since the beginning of the violence at the end of March. The security cabinet didn’t make any decisions yet, but, according to Israeli media, the focus of the meeting was on measures to ease the plight of average Gazans. The line of thinking behind the discussions, which included a proposal by Transportation Minister Israel Katz, who envisions the construction of a 1,300-acre artificial island off the coast of Gaza to serve as a gateway to the world, is that the dire economic conditions there fuel terror and violence directed at Israel… Wasn’t PLO given land and all they did was to disagree with it?

NYC’s War on Academic Excellence

by Michelle Malkin

{ } ~ “I also have a dream.”

This rallying cry, handwritten on a simple white placard held up by an Asian-American mom at a protest this week against liberal New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio’s plan to radically transform New York City’s public schools, says it all. A new civil rights struggle in education has exploded — yet the national media and the usual celebrity voices for equality and justice are nowhere to be found.

While student “Dreamers” here illegally from south of the border garner bleeding-heart front-page stories and nightly news dispatches, the high-achieving sons and daughters of legal immigrants from Asia are getting shafted by far-left Democrats.

And it’s all in the perverted name of “diversity.”

De Blasio is hell-bent on destroying equal opportunity and merit-based admissions because the results are not equally distributed according to his social-engineering agenda. The Big Apple’s famed specialized schools, such as the Bronx High School of Science, Brooklyn Technical High School and High School for Math, Science and Engineering at City College, require an academic entrance exam. It’s a highly competitive process in which tens of thousands of students vie for a total of about 5,000 slots.

So what’s the problem? According to the bean-counting extremists, too many Asian-Americans have aced the test and are “over represented.” It’s not enough for the social justice crowd to settle for a 20 percent minority set-aside. They want to scrap the test altogether. A bill to eliminate the exams passed the state assembly education committee last week. Though it may die this year, the toxic principles underlying the legislation have infected the left for decades.

Dullard de Blasio falsely argues that white privilege and class privilege are to blame for the lack of black and Latino student representation at the elite schools. The two groups account for 67 percent of public school students but only made up 10 percent of elite school admissions offers last year. By contrast, Asian-Americans, who make up 16 percent of public school students, received 52 percent of offers in the past year.

So are Asian-Americans classified as “white” now? And how does de Blasio get away with the lie that these best and brightest Asian-American students are economically privileged?

Fact: The city’s own poverty assessment shows that Asians are the poorest demographic group, with 24.1 percent living at or below poverty — vs. 19.5 percent citywide. The New York Post reports that overall, 45 percent of students at the “elite eight” schools qualify for free lunch.

As I’ve observed for years, liberal race-fixers believe that “too many” Asian-American students winning school admissions on their own merits is a bad, bad thing. In our case, overcoming the supposed encumbrances of ethnicity and skin color is viewed not as a proud accomplishment but as a political liability.

This is classic crab-in-the-bucket syndrome. If you put a single crab in an uncovered bucket, it will find a way to climb up and out on its own. But if you put a dozen crabs in a bucket, eleven will fight with all their might to pull down the independent striver who attempts to escape. And so it is with the identity politics mob and the equality of outcome cult. They can’t stand high achievers and freethinkers who escape their iron grip.

A sad irony of the battle over racial preferences in education is that many of the very leaders who have lobbied hardest to re-jigger the numbers on college campuses to fit a politically correct, proportional ideal are supposedly “progressive” Asian-Americans.

I personally endured attacks from many of them who labeled me and other conservative minority leaders “sellouts” for opposing government-imposed diversity policies that sabotaged color-blindness and punished academic excellence.

Now, those same quota champions are seeing those same policies blow up in their faces in New York City’s high schools. “Diversity” at all costs means taking the hardest-working, top-scoring students who earned their seats on the bus — and tossing them under the wheels.

Tell me again who the real sellouts are?
