Yesterday was the Fourth of July. We celebrate our freedom and independence on the Fourth of July. One man celebrated his freedom yesterday.
The question is, why is he still free?
From the New York Post:
It seems like only yesterday that Jon Corzine was the life of the party, holding court on the Hamptons political circuit, raising money for Barack Obama.
Now, Corzine — just months removed from a humiliating financial scandal — is persona non grata in the tony playground of the rich, and it’s clearly taking its toll, insiders said.
“He’s certainly not getting the invitations that he would have gotten before,” a friend of his told The Post.
Corzine, 65, was looking worn out and gaunt earlier this week as he trudged along Main Street in East Hampton on his way back from the local Starbucks.
With an oversized sweatshirt and baggy jeans, the stressed-out former governor of New Jersey looked as if he was on his way to a dental appointment instead of a relaxing evening.
“I think it was pretty noticeable that he was haggard and somewhat unfocused,” said the friend, who ran into Corzine recently. “You can definitely see that he’s a troubled man right now.”
Corzine’s business world came crashing down last year after the $40 billion implosion of his brokerage firm, MF Global, an epic financial free-fall that ended with $1.2 billion in client funds missing.
Combine that with a brutal 2009 election loss to Chris Christie that followed a near-fatal crash on the Garden State Parkway in 2007, and it’s hard not to notice the dark cloud hovering over Corzine’s head.
Friends said Corzine looks like a shell of the man who seven months ago sat before a Senate subcommittee and said, “I simply do not know where the money is.”
When he’s not wallowing in misery, Corzine has been making the Hamptons rounds.
Residents have spotted him in his favorite haunts, such as Nick and Toni’s restaurant in East Hampton and the American Hotel restaurant in Sag Harbor.
But he is far less visible these days than he was, say, four years ago, when he was working the cocktail parties raising money for Obama, still holding on to the prospect of a federal post as budget director or treasury secretary.
Aww, he is in liberal purgatory. The liberals will not invite him to parties in the Hamptons.
Why is this guy not in jail facing charges for the misappropriation or in fact theft of $1.6 billion. Bernie Madoff stole $65 billion so only $1.6 billion makes Corzine an amateur compared to Madoff.
Why is he still free? How many clients of MF Global lost their life savings because of Corzine?
Bernie Madoff was arrested one day after his fraud was revealed. MF Global collapsed on October 31, 2011. Nine months later, Jon Corzine still walks the streets of the Hamptons.
Back in April, Federal Prosecutors were considering giving immunity to Edith O’Brien, one of MF Global’s key executives. She is believed to be the one who can say whether or not Jon Corzine personally authorized the transfers that cost MF Global clients at least $1.6 billion.
Corzine until recently was a bundler for Obama. Could the Department of Justice be slow walking this case until after the election? Are they protecting Corzine? Are they deliberately tanking the case so that Corzine, a former Democrat Senator and Governor never goes to Court and to prison?
With the Eric Holder Justice Department, anything is possible.

Americans have accepted this in government, business, and in our culture. As long as we the people accept this environment, nothing will change, status quo. There is no liberty and justic for all because no one stands up to the powerful, to replace them with moral and ethical people. Evil is protected by those hired to protect evil. Political Party protects evil, The Press protects evil, Human Resources protects evil, Evil protects Evil. Those who speak out again evil are retaliated, told to "go along to get along". As long as society accepts this, it will fail, as did the Romans.
Permalink Reply by John Bellaire on July 6, 2012 at 1:24pm Well, the fast and furious thing had a lid put on it lately. Madoff probably did not contribute to Obama as much as Corzine did. Most likely it is the reason Madoff is in jail and Corzine is not. Anyway, Corzine should take better care of himself. Maybe he could try cooking his own meals instead of dining out all the time and save some money, but he should have something left with all he stole, and meals in prison are free.
