Yesterday was the Fourth of July. We celebrate our freedom and independence on the Fourth of July. One man celebrated his freedom yesterday.
The question is, why is he still free?
From the New York Post:
It seems like only yesterday that Jon Corzine was the life of the party, holding court on the Hamptons political circuit, raising money for Barack Obama.
Now, Corzine — just months removed from a humiliating financial scandal — is persona non grata in the tony playground of the rich, and it’s clearly taking its toll, insiders said.
“He’s certainly not getting the invitations that he would have gotten before,” a friend of his told The Post.
Corzine, 65, was looking worn out and gaunt earlier this week as he trudged along Main Street in East Hampton on his way back from the local Starbucks.
With an oversized sweatshirt and baggy jeans, the stressed-out former governor of New Jersey looked as if he was on his way to a dental appointment instead of a relaxing evening.
“I think it was pretty noticeable that he was haggard and somewhat unfocused,” said the friend, who ran into Corzine recently. “You can definitely see that he’s a troubled man right now.”
Corzine’s business world came crashing down last year after the $40 billion implosion of his brokerage firm, MF Global, an epic financial free-fall that ended with $1.2 billion in client funds missing.
Combine that with a brutal 2009 election loss to Chris Christie that followed a near-fatal crash on the Garden State Parkway in 2007, and it’s hard not to notice the dark cloud hovering over Corzine’s head.
Friends said Corzine looks like a shell of the man who seven months ago sat before a Senate subcommittee and said, “I simply do not know where the money is.”
When he’s not wallowing in misery, Corzine has been making the Hamptons rounds.
Residents have spotted him in his favorite haunts, such as Nick and Toni’s restaurant in East Hampton and the American Hotel restaurant in Sag Harbor.
But he is far less visible these days than he was, say, four years ago, when he was working the cocktail parties raising money for Obama, still holding on to the prospect of a federal post as budget director or treasury secretary.
Aww, he is in liberal purgatory. The liberals will not invite him to parties in the Hamptons.
Why is this guy not in jail facing charges for the misappropriation or in fact theft of $1.6 billion. Bernie Madoff stole $65 billion so only $1.6 billion makes Corzine an amateur compared to Madoff.
Why is he still free? How many clients of MF Global lost their life savings because of Corzine?
Bernie Madoff was arrested one day after his fraud was revealed. MF Global collapsed on October 31, 2011. Nine months later, Jon Corzine still walks the streets of the Hamptons.
Back in April, Federal Prosecutors were considering giving immunity to Edith O’Brien, one of MF Global’s key executives. She is believed to be the one who can say whether or not Jon Corzine personally authorized the transfers that cost MF Global clients at least $1.6 billion.
Corzine until recently was a bundler for Obama. Could the Department of Justice be slow walking this case until after the election? Are they protecting Corzine? Are they deliberately tanking the case so that Corzine, a former Democrat Senator and Governor never goes to Court and to prison?
With the Eric Holder Justice Department, anything is possible.

Permalink Reply by Gail E. Engelhardt on July 5, 2012 at 2:39pm Are we suppose to feel sorry for John Corzine? I don't think so. He deserves to be prosecuted and sent to prison for a long, long time and made someone's girlfriend as well. He deserves no pity for the life he is living now. It is too good for a scumbag like him anyway. However, birds of a feather do flock together, and the other scumbag Eric Holder deserves to be in prison too, but it will never happen as long as the current Administration is in power. Unfortunately, if you have enough money or enough clout, you can get away with murder and embezzlement as well. These two low lifes are a prime example of what is wrong in this World.
Permalink Reply by Kenneth A Immeke on July 5, 2012 at 3:22pm They should rename the Department of Justice. The Department of Obama Justice. A get out of jail free card for Obama supporters, all others can go strait to jail and do not pass go. What do you expect for an administration that could never pass a security clearance.
Permalink Reply by John Butler on July 5, 2012 at 3:58pm Why not put Obummer's name in this same story? the name change works for me. only the amounts and birth records have been changed to protect the usurper.
Permalink Reply by Dan Bruner on July 5, 2012 at 4:17pm At this time I am no longer surprised, stunned, or even bewildered by the news every day of more corruption in government and business. It is now so common that I don't even get outraged any longer because nothing will happen to bring the criminals to justice. Holder, Jarret, Obama, Biden, Corzine, Reid, Peelosi, etc...the list goes on and on and has no end. Guess I'm just feeling abit worn down today, I begin to think they have won and there is no way out...that the U.S. is finished and we will join the rest of history as simple servants to the few elite ruling class that has ruled over man since the beginning of time.

Permalink Reply by Billy Bowlegs on July 5, 2012 at 4:43pm But not the scumbat of Obozo and Holder genere
Permalink Reply by Gary Wren on July 5, 2012 at 7:12pm obama and his henchmen are nothing but high level crooks.................they all need to be put in prison for life................
Permalink Reply by clarice davis on July 5, 2012 at 7:15pm I know why he is not in jail. I believe is someone disappears, no one can be charged until the body is found. In his case, he has no idea where the $1.2 billion are.
Permalink Reply by Dennis OBrien on July 5, 2012 at 10:08pm 45 plus Billion looted from NJ State pensions during Corzine, McGreevey and Rino Whitman's watches. Most taken during the Corzine era. ( McGreevey started to fillet the funds after Whitman had set the mechanisms in place to facilitate the scam) Billions were taken from PERS,NJPFRS,NJSPRS, Teacher Ret. System (maybe 1 or 2 more). Just wondering: Who "brokered" the liquidation of mutual funds, stocks etc. into cash for the state???? My disappointment with Christie stems from his non statements over who robbed us blind, and his ensuing attack on the retirees and public employees. They were all the "greedy" leeches who bled the system according to him even though they contributed some of the highest rates in the country.. Not too much said about the spending orgy committed by the POLITICIANS with funds that weren't theirs to touch. The POLITICIANS from BOTH side enabled this theft and malfeasance to occur. Then they blame the victims. For years NJ was known for its capable pension trustees and managers who were adept at handling and investing their funds. That all came crashing down when elected and unelected scummers took it upon themselves to commit these crimes. Didn't Jimmy Hoffa Sr go to jail for similiar garbage???
Permalink Reply by Melissa Ortiz on July 5, 2012 at 11:08pm It does make one wonder.
Permalink Reply by Johnboy on July 6, 2012 at 1:27am Nobody's forgotten this man or his crimes. Those ranchers, if the courts don't do something to charge him, are going to collect one of these days.
