Who for VP?
There is one particular name that is now popping up among Republican insiders and the GOP establishment as the leading candidate to become the Vice Presidential nominee.
Who is it?

There is no doubt in the minds of Republican National Committee members that Mitt Romney will be their standard bearer in the fall, and already consensus is building behind one potential vice presidential nominee — Ohio Sen. Rob Portman.
In an informal survey of more than half of the Republican State Chairmen and national committee people at this weekend’s State Chairman meeting at a resort here, two-thirds said they believe Portman is the most-likely and best-qualified running-mate for Mitt Romney. The committee members spoke to BuzzFeed only on the condition of anonymity.
“He’s from Ohio, and we need to win Ohio, it’s that simple,” said one state chair.
Portman, a former Congressman from the Cincinnati area who was director of the Office of Management and Budget during the George W. Bush administration, was elected to the U.S. Senate in 2010. And the warmth Republican elites express for him stems much from a desire to avoid another risky, flamboyant pick like Sarah Palin as it does for his ability to help carry an important swing state.
“Romney needs to make a safe pick, and keep talking about the economy — and that’s Rob Portman,” said one committeewoman from the West.
Portman’s seeming inability to overshadow the vanilla Romney gives him a rare qualification — and potentially a leg up over the rest of the field.
“He’s not going to be Palin — he’s not going to be fighting to get in front of cameras, [Portman] knows his place,” he one Midwestern committeeman.
“He was born to be the guy standing next to the guy,” said another member. “He’s the type of guy who ran for vice president of his high school student council.”
You have got to be kidding? Portman is a non-distinguished moderate. You have to ask the question, is Romney really serious about winning the nomination?
Assuming this is true, it is classic Romney and classic GOP establishment. They are solving for X. Instead of the passion of patriotism and the desire to help save the nation, all this is, is simply a business problem. It is simply a math problem.
No, there is much more than that. Romney has not reached out to the conservative wing of the Party. He does not seem to care. TPN surveys have shown a quarter of conservatives say they will not vote for Romney.
While we have not yet surveyed it, the number who will not go out and campaign fir him is going to be much higher.
Who the hell does he think is going to be the boots on the ground? Members of the country club?
Here is a clue for Romney and the GOP establishment. It is conservative activists who do this.
Romney is worried about someone who will help him win Ohio? He had better worry about the Conservatives who are not going to be out working for the campaign.

Well, Bob, I was a little annoyed at your playing coy with the link but once I read Craig Andresen's proposal my heart started racing a little! Yes, that team would absolutely light a fire under patriots everywhere. We need to get that article to Romney's campaign and make him understand that if he really wants to win this is the way to do it.

Only 16 states have had primaries, why do you at TPN keep saying that Romney is the nominee? Why are you looking for his VP pick? You are sounding more and more like your actually a front group for the establishment! Why don't you instead, give equal treatment to Gingrich or even Paul? This race is far from over but yet your doing the work of both the media and the GOP establishment! You should really be looking at the true delegate count. Have you done that? Our Tea Party group here in NY has and we've found some very interesting things with Mitt committed numbers, like the fact that he only has approximately 346 not 544. There are other things also happening but I'm not saying anymore because I want to see if you're actually going to do what it is you claim to stand for and that's honesty in this race, or will you continue to be the voice for Romney. We'll see if your really Tea Party or just schills!

I'm with you on this. I'm a Texan (Texican), born and bred. When the Republican primary is held in
my home state, Romney WILL NOT get my vote! I'm not crazy about Newt either, but I will vote for
him in the Rep. primary. It won't be an actual vote FOR Newt; it will be a vote AGAINST Romney &
and the Republican Establishment. I would that I had the opportunity to vote for a REAL Conservative,
and I don't believe that Newt fits the bill. If he does, there's still a couple of problems with Newt that will
not go away: he needs two seabags to carry the baggage that he'll be toting, and he is a loose cannon.
Nevertheless and at the end of the day, if push comes to shove, I will vote for Romney in the general
election; same reasons for my primary vote, same drill. I WILL NOT be voting FOR Romney; I will be
voting to get the Marxist out of the White House!
I would to God that we could all agree on that one thing: WE NEED TO DUMP THE COMMIE AND
SEND HIM BACK TO KENYA! Romney doesn't even know how to act or talk like a Conservative, but
I do not believe he is a Communist hell bent on destroying this nation that has been, in the past, so
very blessed by God. (I'm talking about the Lord God of Israel here, not Allah {whoever the that is}).
Bottom line and as a last resort: LET'S GET THE ENEMY OF GOD AND COUNTRY OUT OF THE
WHITE HOUSE!
Romney, if it comes to it, couldn't possibly do as much damage to our nation as Zerobama has done
already, and he certainly couldn't do as much damage as the Big Zero plans to do in the future (if
given the chance).
IF we must, we can save this nation from certain destruction, AND THEN WE CAN IMMEDIATELY
BEGIN FORMING A NEW AND CONSERVATIVE PARTY, ONE THAT WILL DUMP THE GOP INTO
THE ASH HEAPS OF HISTORY IN ANOTHER FOUR AND A HALF YEARS . . . but we're not going
to get that chance if the Big Zero gets back in. He will have us all imprisoned for talking or writing
about the formation of a new political party!

I've never heard of this guy. Just what we need another RINO. If "The Drooler" chooses this guy for V.P. he isn't that serious about defeating The Obomination. What the hell makes Ohio so important over say Gingrich or West and carry the Southern States. Romney needs to remove his head from his backside and wake up and smell the coffee. This Portman guy is not the road to victory lane.

I've never heard of Portman but recent polling of Romney/Portman is way below Obama. Another polling of Romney/Rubio is neck to neck with Obama. Is the GOP sleeping?????

I am a Texas that is appalled by the Republic (Elite Rinos) Party and their presumptive nominee. Call the RNC and let them know how disenfranchised so much of the conservative wing of the Republican Party..which is a pretty large percentage. YOU are so right about ROMNEY...I will cast my vote in Texas for Newt. HE IS MY CHOICE! Many voters have such bad information about NEWT thanks to DIRTY TRICKY MITTY and his nasty campaign tactics. I urge all voters to look into Newt's background and you will find nothing to scare you and you will realize that YOU can trust him with the reigns of the office of the presidency. Mark Levin worked as an attorney answering those fraudulent "ethics" charges in the '90s an he criticizes Gov.
