Ron Paul is surging in Iowa, but the question is why and where are those votes coming from?
From The UK Telegraph:
Dismissed by many as too extreme to win the nomination, Mr Paul has a fiercely loyal following that could propel him to an upset election victory in the January 3 caucus.
In the last week he has surged from 18 points to 21, leaving him only one behind Mr Gingrich and five ahead of Mitt Romney, the former Massachusetts governor who was once the presumptive nominee but is now being buffeted from all sides.
Iowa has always posed a challenge for Mr Romney, who governed as moderate in Massachusetts and whose Mormon faith may hold him back in an electorate that is 60 per cent evangelical Christian.
"The momentum is building up and a lot of the candidates so far would come and go. They would shoot to the top and drop back rapidly. Ours has been very steady growth, then in this last week or two there has been a sudden extra growth," said Mr Paul.
Where is all of this sudden Ron Paul interest coming from?
Ron Paul has never been able to gather more than 10% or so in any poll. So why the sudden surge?
If you were on Obama’s campaign team and you wanted to cause as much mischief as possible and screw things up as much as possible, which candidate would you want?
Gingrich? No, he would destroy Obama in a debate.
Romney? No. He has a strong organization and could be a formidable opponent.
Bachmann? No, she energizes the Tea Party vote.
Perry? No, for the same reason.
What about Santorum or Huntsman? Their numbers are too far down for there to be a realistic shot at them causing problems in the primary.
The perfect candidate for Democrats is Ron Paul.
The Democrats are not going to simply forget about the primaries. They remember Rush Limbaugh’s operation chaos of 2008 and certainly would love to return the favor.
Thus enter Ron Paul.
Ron Paul is the Republican candidate who has almost no chance to win on his own, yet his continued candidacy could really prolong the GOP primaries.
Ron Paul is the candidate Obama would probably most like to face. In debates he comes off as a ranting, crazy old man. While his talks about fiscal restraint is great, as soon as he is led into areas of foreign policy, he scares the hell out of most Americans.
With no one to run against Obama in the primaries, you can bet Democrats will be crossing over to cause as much mischief as they can.
And to cause some of that mischief, you can bet they will be voting for Ron Paul.

Permalink Reply by John Bowens on December 16, 2011 at 7:08pm Norman, as are his remarks about those resenting us in countries where we have bases! I spent ten years in the FRG and lived among the German populace with German neighbors most of that time. Those Germans considered us "Ami's" as much their troops their own German Army troops! One neighbor showed me an article from a newspaper (or magazine, I forget which) and that article complained about troops misbehaving themselves which made me a little embarassed until I came to the end of the article, which explained that the article was in a German newspaper about German troops misbehaving in Germany during WWI! We both had a good laugh about his trick! It is true that some Germans resented all of us because of the actions of a few (most of which it would be politically incorrect to mention), but the majority of Germans accepted us very willingly. I feel the same about America's many allies around the World and were we to withdraw into the "Paul" turtle shell and any of those countries were attacked, I would put down the cane and grab a rifle to go help them! Ron Paul needs to stay out of Republican business and work within his own ideology to create a Party. There is a reason there are not Democrats and Libertarians, but Democrats and Republicans! He is far worse than any RINO with his threats to run a Third Party ticket knowiing that it would siphon away Republican votes! I cannot understand why this man is even in the Republican primary race! Do we have any Democrats there also?

Permalink Reply by Doc Franklin on December 15, 2011 at 6:53pm It's actually worse than that Ron. The current dollar's value is 2.5 cents as compared to the 1913 dollar. All compliments of a spendthrift government, an ink crazy Treasury Department, and the wonderful central bank ...The Federal Reserve. Thank You Woodrow Wilson.

Permalink Reply by Charles F Nichols on December 15, 2011 at 7:52pm Go ron paul. The strict libertarian many call an isolationist. Could be the perfect man to turn America around. While I do not agree with many of his ideas. It could be me thats wrong. When considering freedom,it applies to everything. Due to many inhibitions we shrink from some of pauls total freedom thinking. Pauls election could be the closest thing we could get to a real pro American candidate than some progressive talking the good talk. Remember candidate obama? Oh yes you can. You can have everything and he will fundamentally transform America into the virtual utopia. All talk. Think any of these politicians are any different? Debate, debate, debate watching to see if one says the right thing. What does it matter? Their up there doing there bloody best to say the right thing. Its nothing but talk. Like all the rest ,once they have the throne it becomes what I tell you! Sorry folks I do not see paul as being so horrible and a damn sight better than whats there now!

Permalink Reply by John Bowens on December 16, 2011 at 5:43pm Funny, I watched the same debate and I thought both Romney and Gingrich seemed pretty confident of themselves. I hope Mitt/Newt stay together, regardless of which get the nomination! The Obama Gang won't have a chance!
