Washington Post: Why the Tea Party is so unyielding on the debt ceiling

A Tea Party leader takes to the pages of the Washington Post to explain why the Tea Party is taking such a hard line on the debt ceiling debate.

Agree--they only know how to attack rather than deal in truth/facts--thanks!

They will use the argument that they use regarding drilling-"If we started today it won't make a difference for ten years."  The line items are so petty that they'll use the argument that they are 1-3% of the budget and don't make a difference.  They'll suggest that you're stupid for thinking a few billion dollars will solve the problem.

The problem lies in the way they figure the baseline for budgeting; they don't work from 0 dollars, they work from previous years' spending with an automatic 3% growth figure worked into the equation.  There's no incentive for departments to show a surplus because they don't want to see their budgets slashed by that amount or more for the following year.  They spend it all to justify themselves and that's part of the problem.

So many people are out of touch with reality that it's frightening.  And these whackos go into a polling place to vote....they might as well open their wallets and give their money away to the government.

Simple economics-when you spend more than the total of your incoming revenue, you'll wind up with a deficit.  When you start covering up that deficit with your credit card, home equity loan, advance payday loan, retirement account loan, life insurance loan, and break into your kids' piggy banks, you're headed for bankruptcy.

What would be really nice?  If the darn page loaded so I could read it!!!!
I tried to post a comment and when I hit enter, I was sent to a page that said the page had been moved or was no longer available.  Figures.
The article is great!  The comments are atrocious!  The Washington Post is very left, so I'm not surprised at the comments!
Justin. It is time people in Washington know the truth. Apparently them must be in some kind of dreamland or drug induced trance. Apparently the only people who are facing reality is us in the Tea Party movement. We are bankrupt and why don't we admit it and start over financially.  We need to make sure the politicians are incapable of spending more than they received. Taxes are getting to high and so is food and energy. This madness got to end.
Great article Judson.

Stopped getting Washington Post years ago. We are going the way of Greece because Obama Regime and Soros want us to become part of the world order, Glenn Beck said several years ago this would happen.  Hope we can stop it, very worried.

An excellent piece. It shows what seperates us from Democrats and many Republicans, it shows our (tea parties) indepedence from the spin and lies being promulgated by our opposition and some of our former allies. And it ties in nicely, the simplicity of this issue as it relates to individuals and their common sense views on spiralling debt, many who are, or have experienced, how debt can easily get out of control.
Wow!  I read some of those comments.  Some are full of such vitriol. And they call us uncivilized.

Larry,

Well said, and my sentiments exactly. The sooner the deed is done the sooner we can get our country back. We can no longer afford to feed these parasites. Like a tick, I light a match, blow it out, and put it to its back side. It definately will back out. Then I grab it and flush it down the toilet.

Regards,
