Update from Washington. The left is still trying to repeal Don't Ask, Don't Tell

From our friends at the Center for Military Readiness:

House and Senate Democrats Could Pass “Privileged” Repeal Bill TODAY

— Urgent Calls Needed —

The House of Representatives is about to vote on stand-alone legislation to repeal the 1993 law stating that homosexuals are not eligible to serve in the military, which is always mislabeled “Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell.”

Threatening the military is “privileged” legislation, co-sponsored by House Majority Leader Steny Hoyer (MD) and lame-duck Rep. Patrick Murphy (PA), which could pass within hours.  Turn on C-SPAN—This is happening now.

The “privileged” status of the legislation means that Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid could take it up at any time.  A truncated process would allow no opportunity for amendments and limited or no debate.

Sen. Reid will still need 60 votes to pass the “privileged” bill.  Right now he appears to have the votes, but anything could happen.

Please take a moment to make calls expressing concern about this outrageous process.  The legislation allows virtually no scrutiny of the legislation and the Pentagon’s recently released report on the consequences of implementation.

  • Particular attention should be given to Senators Lisa Murkowski (R-AK), the two Republican Senators from Maine, Susan Collins and Olympia Snowe, Richard Lugar (IN), George Voinovich (OH), Mark Kirk (IL), Scott Brown(MA), Judd Gregg (NH), and John Ensign (NV).

  • The following Democrat Senators are important:  Joe Manchin (WV), Bill Nelson (FL), Ben Nelson (NE), Jon Tester (MT), Evan Bayh (IN), James Webb and Mark Warner (VA), Mark Pryor and Blanche Lincoln (AR) andMary Landrieu (LA).

The Pentagon report on this issue released on November 30 is full of well-spun recommendations that, if implemented, would do great harm to the culture of the military.  Not a single hearing has been held to examine the report’s findings and recommendations in the House, and perfunctory Senate hearings done in haste were inappropriate to the seriousness of this issue.

  • More than 12% of military personnel overall would leave the military sooner than planned—a percentage that potentially equates to 264,600 of the 2.1 million active-duty and reserve force.

  • Nearly 60% of respondents in the Marine Corps and in Army combat arms said they believed there would be a negative impact on their unit’s effectiveness.

  • Among Marine combat arms, 67% of respondents said that repeal would have a negative impact on their unit’s effectiveness.

But LGBT activist groups and their allies in Congress and the media do not care and they are not giving up.

Senators need to hear from you: Our military deserves better than this.

What is amazing is that now if they go around prancing around like they do in San Fransicko what happens then??

This is not going to end well for the military and I hope that we do not have a retention problem.

I think we all know this is more about something other then them being able to serve.

It is amazing how we have 535 morons in Washington that have screwed up America as bad as they have.

You're right Rob,  I think many of our best soldiers will not re-up.  Worse, if someone that is gay, "hits" on them and they punch them out, they'll be charged with a hate crime.  Good Lord, these libs are just insane.

I have done a lot of reading in the last year or two, one of the books was Sal Alinski Rules for radicals and what the libs (progressives) are doing is right out of the book. Also the Cloward and Pivin (stress the system to move it in a different direction) that is exactly what they are doing.

What I do think what we have to do is get rid of the 17th amendment (let the state legislature appoint the senators of that state)_That would give us much more control but we would have to see is how many supporters we have in the congress.

Here is a list of the RINO's that voted to repeal this mess.

  • Scott Brown, Massachusetts
  • Susan Collins, Maine
  • Olympia Snowe, Maine
  • Mark Kirk, Illinois
  • Lisa Murkowski, Alaska
  • John Ensign, Nevada
  • Richard Burr, North Carolina
  • George Voinovich, Ohio
