Earlier this month Missouri had its senatorial primary. Out of the blue, Todd Akin, a Congressman, won the primary, shocking a lot of people.
Until today, he was considered a pretty good bet to beat Clair McCaskill and take a Democrat senate seat and turn it red.
He was a pretty good bet, until he opened his mouth.
Republican Congressman Todd Akin, currently the GOP nominee running for Senate against incumbent Democratic Sen. Claire McCaskill, justified his absolute opposition to abortion (no exceptions for rape) by claiming that the victims of “legitimate rape” have biological mechanisms in place to reject and prevent pregnancy.
“If an abortion can be considered in the case of a tubal pregnancy [where the mother's life is threatened],” said host Charles Jaco, “what about in the case of rape? Should it be legal or not?”
“First of all, from what I understand from doctors, that’s really rare,” Akin said about pregnancy from rape. “If it’s a legitimate rape, the female body has ways to try to shut that whole thing down.”
Akin continued on to suggest that when those protections fail, abortion shouldn’t be an available course of action for the victim.
“Let’s assume that maybe that didn’t work, or something,” he said. “I think there should be some punishment, but the punishment ought to be on the rapist and not attacking the child.”
First, let’s give Akin the benefit of the doubt. He was speaking off the cuff, isn’t a doctor and sometimes we all say things that don’t come out right.
Akin’s point was that pregnancy resulting from rape is fairly rare. That point is right. I worked as a prosecutor for ten years and handled rape cases. I cannot recall any of them that I was involved in or even heard about that resulted in pregnancy. That isn’t to say it doesn’t happen, only that it is rare.
Unfortunately Akin cannot walk those words back. It does not matter what he says now, that interview is out there and it is a gold mine to not only Claire McCaskill, but the left wing media that will destroy Akin over this. Almost every woman, left, right and independent will be offended by this statement.
Akin wants to be the next Senator from Missouri but at this point, it is not going to happen.
Akin should do the right thing and step down.
The Republican Party has a great candidate in Sarah Steelman. She is the only one of the former candidates in the primary that can undo this kind of damage. John Brunner was the other candidate in the primary but even he would have to deal with the aftermath of what Akin said.
If Akin steps down and Steelman is selected to run in his place, this issue dies quickly and the focus returns to how unpopular Barack Obama is and how Claire McCaskill charged the taxpayers for the use of her own private plane and not paying the taxes she owed on the plane.
The Republicans in Missouri need to act quickly, while they still can.
Well you can laugh now, and in your arrogance you may even shake your fist at God een as you walk into darkness for eternity, but again it's your choice. You don't have to belief in Hell or the devil and that's exactly how the devil likes it. That way he will have no problem taking you with him we he is doomed forever. Again, it's your eternity, but as long as you are here I pray that God would allow you the opportunity to have faith, if you have not blasphemed yourself out of eternity. You are welcome and I will always be concerned for those who say, there is no God, for those who think there is no judgement no eternal consequences. You are welcome and I hope again that God will open the eyes of your understanding, because it is not funny, nor would I ever desire that of anyone. Again, the devil will continue to speak his lies into your mind and into your heart and as long as you give him a listening ear, he will lie to you until you have been destroyed by him. But it's your choice.
Yes, yes, we know. Disagreeing with Mary can only mean one's in partnership with the devil.
No Constance, what I think really means nothing, standing in opposition and rebellion to God's Word is what puts a person in partnership with the devil. If it was not for God, there would be no life, no laws, no America. Whatever I believe, I believe because of what God has commanded me to believe. And the one person who wants to destroy and rebel against everything pertaining to God is the devil. Even Jesus said, if you are not against God you are for Him, which would also mean if you are not for God you are against Him, which would make you His enemy, and the enemy of God is the devil and those he deceives into accepting his evil and deluded thinking. I regret that a lukewarm America causes you to think that my comments to you are a little abrasive, but this is what happens when the truth is trampled on and suppressed.
No Constance, what I think really means nothing
At last! Something we can agree on. Although I wouldn't say your thoughts mean nothing. They mean quite a few things to me, but none of them what you think they should mean.
Hey Mary, try this on for size:
...standing in opposition and rebellion to Allah's Word is what puts a person in partnership with the devil. If it was not for Allah, there would be no life, no laws, no America. Whatever I believe, I believe because of what Allah has commanded me to believe. And the one person who wants to destroy and rebel against everything pertaining to Allah is the devil. Even Mohammed (blessed be his name) said, if you are not against Allah you are for Him, which would also mean if you are not for Allah you are against Him, which would make you His enemy, and the enemy of Allah is the devil and those he deceives into accepting his evil and deluded thinking. I regret that a lukewarm America causes you to think that my comments to you are a little abrasive, but this is what happens when the truth is trampled on and suppressed.
See what I mean? Only the name is different. Everything else? Just the same.
Well as I have said before, I do not believe that God's Word should be forced upon anyone. I would not support Shariah law, because I do not accept any variations of God's Word, such as the book of ?. But I see a real problem arising in this nation. It appears that many in America are no longer satisfied with living in a nation like ours where we have a democracy in deciding our laws and statues. We only have two options, either we become a Communist nation or we continue as a Free nation. We can not have it both ways. In a Communist nation like that of the Muslims and other communist nations, there is no democracy, the government forces the citizens of that land to do what the government wants the citizens to do or not to do. Either we are going to be a free country or we are going to be a communist country. Either we are going to be satisfied with majority rule or we will become a communist country where the radical liberals rule. It is not Christianity that is the problem. Because Christianity is derived from freedom. You are free to reject God's Word, He gives you that right and no one can take it from you. If 51% of the American population decides that they want gay marriage to be a part of the American way of living, then that would be the decision, I would not agree with it, but I would definitely respect that the majority of my fellow citizens have made their desires known. My life would not change a bit. Just like in abortion, I do not agree with it and if a woman wants to murder her baby, she will stand before God for that, however, I will never agree to have babies killed and if the majority of Americans feel the same way I do then we will continue to vote against it. But since we did not get the opportunity to decide for ourselves and it was force upon us by the courts we will never be at peace with it. These types of actions are showing more and more a communist path for our nation. No laws in this nations should be drafted without the consent of the people, when it impacts an individually personally. So again you are totally wrong about my beliefs nor can you understand my beliefs, but think whatever you desire.
Ladies! I don't think anybody is ACCUSING each other of being POSSESSED!
Just because people do not have the same backgrounds, life experiances, etc. Does not mean that they are not Christians. I actually enjoyed some of BOTH of your POSTS!
However, the drama is spreading to others, so I will just "politely and humbly" ask you to consider these. Both of you are women of whom I hold in Love and Respect.
For you, brethren, have been called to liberty; only do not use liberty as an opportunity for the flesh, but through love serve one another.
For all the law is fulfilled in one word, even in this: "YOU SHALL LOVE YOUR NEIGHBOR AS YOURSELF."
But if you bite and devour one another, beware lest you be consumed by one another!
I say then: Walk in the Spirit, and you shall not fulfill the lust of the flesh.
(This is not referring to cannibalism but WORDS but both of you are INTELLIGENT and CARING enough to already know that.)
I totally welcome and accept your comments. However, the Scriptures also tells us that there is a time for all things. There is a time when we should be gracious and there is a time for us to take a stand. Jesus did not hold his tongue when addressing the Pharisees. In fact the Bible even tells us to be angry and do not sin. I don't dislike Constance and I am not angry at her. But I am not going to pacify her either. I know people get wierded out when someone mentions the devil, or his minions, and the devil is hoping that we continue to remain hush on that subject. Constance may not be demon possessed, but her mind has been taken over by demonic ideologies. What she believes comes from the devil, because God is not going to tell us to kill babies or support the killing of babies so since there are only two choices, good and evil and God rules over good and the devil over evil, then evil thoughts are from the devil. She is the one with the evil thoughts not me. Jesus said that He is the Way, the Truth and the Life, no one goes to the Father except by Him. So there is only one type of Christian, one who lives by every word that proceeds out of the mouth of God. The Scriptures tell us that a house divided can not stand, so I can not be both for God and against Him, I am either ALWAYS for Him or Always against Him. He does not accept anything less that total surrender and obedience to His Word. Jesus even tells us if we "love" God we will keep His commands. If someone would tell me that my thoughts were from the devil, I would first weigh my thoughts against Scripture to find out if my thoughts were actually in opposition of God's Word. The Pharisees accused Jesus of having a demonic spirit, but Jesus stated His position and showed that He is God and would never stand against God. Your Scriptures are totally correct and when the situation constitutes those actions I will abide by them. I appreciate your comments.
Does your idea come from the Muslim practice of stoning women to death when they are raped?
What an ignorant comment. Islam is not a religion and praises killing!
Without any knowledge of the rape situation, the poor women were accused of being "reckless", thus attaching the guilt to them for their own rape.
That sounds eerily like the Muslim practice of stoning the rape victim to death.
How does that make my comment "ignorant"?
We are not discussing religion. We are discussing rape.
You are mistaken if you read what Mary has written. The woman was not being labeled as reckless in being the victim of a rape, she was being called reckless for using abortion in an attempt to reverse the result of that rape.
Thanks JC at least I know someone is reading for understanding and not just to spin their own opinion.
