Two threats, one surrender
The left loves to try and use boycotts to try and force conservatives into silence. They tried to pressure advertisers on Glenn Beck’s radio show to pull out and did the same for Rush Limbaugh.
There have been a couple of recent pressure campaigns by far left groups to force sponsors to drop their support of conservative groups. One has resulted in a stinging defeat for the far left radicals and one resulted in surrender.
Who won? Who lost? Who surrendered and why?
Rush Limbaugh won. ALEC, the American Legislative Exchange Council lost.
The Washington Post yesterday reported that Internet Giant Amazon.com would not be renewing its sponsorship with ALEC. It said that it was dropping ALEC because of its positions unrelated to Amazon’s business. Radical leftists and groups such the Color of Change have been pressuring groups to drop their affiliation with ALEC.
Some of the companies that have yielded to the far left pressure have been Coke, Pepsi, Kraft, Proctor and Gamble, Kaplan and McDonalds.
What about Rush Limbaugh?
He’s doing quite well. His ratings are up and while some of his sponsors dropped him, they have been replaced. One of the companies that made a very public point of dropping Rush has itself dropped like a rock. Carbonite’s sales have dropped precipitously since it made the announcement it is dropping Rush’s show.
What’s the difference between the two campaigns? Why is ALEC reeling and losing sponsors left and right and why is Rush thriving?
It is simple. Rush did not surrender.
When the Color of Change and the other radical groups launched their attack and began to pressure sponsors to drop ALEC, ALEC like a good old-fashioned Republican dog rolled over and went belly up.
The cowardly ALEC executives ran from a fight. They borrowed John Boehner’s freshly laundered white flag of surrender and ran it up as high and as fast as they could.
They assumed if they agreed they would no longer push model legislation for conservative political issues like Voter ID laws, which have been very powerful, and simply stuck to model business legislation the left would leave them alone.
Liberals are bullies. If you show fear in front of them, they will attack even more. Liberals do not want groups like ALEC to simply drop issues they disagree with them on. They want to silence conservatives and destroy conservative voices.
Rush understands this. That is why he did not surrender.
ALEC does not understand this. They surrendered but the left still continues to go after them. Amazon is the 14th sponsor to drop ALEC. Far left activists were at Amazon’s shareholder meeting to pressure Amazon to do just what it did.
You can bet those far left groups are now targeting someone to be the 15th sponsor to drop ALEC.
Syndicated columnist Michelle Malkin has called for conservatives to call Amazon to get them to try and change their minds about dropping ALEC.
Why?
Malkin does have a good point. We should fight the far left groups anywhere and any way we can. Every time they win a fight, they are encouraged and want to pick another fight.
But why bother to support ALEC?
They simply do not deserve our support.
In fact, I hope ALEC goes out of business.
Why?
The idea of these radical groups winning is pretty nauseating.
However, we are in a fight for the life of our nation. If the radical left wing groups win, we will lose freedom and liberty in this nation. We cannot compromise, accommodate or surrender our beliefs. Those who lack the courage to fight are not our allies.
ALEC chose the route of cowardice so now they reap the rewards. They have sown the wind and now they reap the whirlwind.
I sometimes joke that my family motto is, “If you can’t be a good example, at least be a horrible warning.”
Let the fate of ALEC be a warning to those who believe they can surrender to the left and expect to be left alone.

Perhaps one of the best examples of messing with Rush is the Carbonite Stock Chart!
Why? Because Conservatives are more likely to need back up services than Liberals. Business owners, investors and the like are less likely to be Liberals....and bowing to the noise from the left has hurt Carbonite badly.
Some of the firms that pulled out, mattress suppliers and such, would see an little change: increased support from Liberals while losing support from the right.
Wonder if Sandra Fluke rushed out and bought a new mattress?

People want to identify with winners. So when you cave in to this sort of silliness, you lose the perception that you're a winner and gain the idea that you're just another follower, unsure of yourself, introspective and unprincipled. Why would anyone want to be associated with that?
Republicans in congress and those running for elected office need to get that message hammered into their consciousness! You're never going to please everyone no matter who you are or what you do, so, be true to yourself.
